So We had kept Martam as the last day of my 10 day tour , coming down from Rumtek when I first reached the place it put me in an awe . Such pretty views and the cottages were like the traditional Sikkimese IKRA houses . The farm expands quite a bit and you have the whole resort spread out . They have the activities listed and you will have one of the friendliest service.Dont expect high end resort facilities but be greeted with smiles and positive vibes . I had actually lost my phone while coming down to Martam and the hospitality guys helped me out to an extent of providing me their personal wifi for a night . But surely the magic of the place didn’t even remind me of my loss and I loved every moment spend in this fantasy village . Just while I was checking out the next day ....I received a call on my gfs number from an unknown person and he found my phone somewher in the Ranka forests . Truly magic ! And I will remember Martam everytime I look for hope ... thanks…
Martam village Resort is one of the picturesque and serene offbeat places We have visited till date....This was my 10 visit of Sikkim but for the first time at Martam Village which is about 30km away from Gangtok and 7 km from Rumtek Monastery ....The road from Gangtok is of so so type as we relished more or less our journey from Gangtok town... Positive things : 1) Free from pollution and noise....just enjoy calmness of Nature and chirping of different birds with flora and fauna..... 2) Cottages ( about 13))are comfortable and relaxing with comfy bed , chair , fan ( as it gets a little hotter in the summer)....In fact this property' s cottage is far better than Concrete building of Martam Retreat which is new sister property of Martam VR nd Netuk House of Gangtok .. Free room heater is also provided in winter...but there is no Tv in any cottage.... 3) open space for kids to play and roam freely ...Ideal for Nature lovers.... 4) Village walk , Orange gardens and rice and paddy fields will refresh our claustrophobic mind and revitalise it with fresh oxygen ...The resort management arranges village walk with a guide....We enjoyed the guidance and care of Mr Arun , a caretaker and local lad with amiable nature.... NEGATIVE Aspects: There are many areas to improve....I think Food quality was "worst" I have ever had in any offbeat stays in my life.....And the price of the Food is steep and in comparison with other Sikkimise Offbeat stays is too much and pocket pinching ...!!.....Though they provide excuse that the food price was high due to remote location !!.. but regret to say it is not too far from Gangtok and remoteness does not mean you have to provide stale chicken curry and bitter or badly tasted fish curry!!... Despite our protest the resort manager did not change the dishes as we had repeatedly said the chicken curry was hard to eat and vegetables were not upto the mark or fresh !!!..... Instead the stale food price was included in the total bill...!!.. Anyway, We had to accept it as we ordered these dishes!! On visiting the villages we found a lot of fresh local vegetables that they should have encouraged the guests to eat instead stale Food at steep price !! Gardening needs to be taken care too... **My humble advice for the Management or any other Sikkimise Resort owner is please visit at least once thoroughly KERALA, God's Own Country, then one can understand the difference in hospitality and care and what hospitality industry stands for !!.....A lot to learn from KERALIAN hospitality and affection with professional twist ......Truly, everything under the sky is not perfect , but in pursuit of perfection can only bring out happiness and drenched it with professionalism...... …
This resort is the realisation of the owner's dream, and the manager's enthusiasm, to provide guests with perfect tranquilty in a natural setting. It is ideal for those visitors who want to get away from any hustle and bustle to recharge their batteries. The lodges, where guests are housed, are designed to feel traditional but offer modern comforts, regular hot water, and that essential, a kettle with which to make tea. Peace is guaranteed in the grounds where pomelos, guavas, and lemons grow abundantly and are used by the chef. The chef has 25 years of international experience and his food is exceptionally good. Eating it outside, with birds singing, and only other natural sounds, is pure pleasure.
Martam Village is a peaceful paradise, in perfect harmony with nature, family owned & only 45 minutes from GangtokWhat I love most about this place is that the resort provides employment to those is the surrounding village. Their aim is to preserve and promote local culture and cuisine. My partner and I spent three nights in one of their rustic bungalows. The views were one of a kind. Martam Village offers a range of activities: a walk to a stunning waterfall; or meeting village school children. We enjoyed the walk through the paddy fields up to Rumtek Monastery (not to miss!) Staff were incredible and very polite. They made our stay “one to never forget.”
After an arduous road journey from North Sikkim, my cousin and I were glad for the comfort and luxury that Martam Village Resort offered. Rooms are large and cosy and service is prompt. Breakfast is served in an area that overlooks the lush valley below. The resort is spread out over levels, with the restaurant being at the lowest level requiring climbing down to reach from the rooms on the higher levels. Wish we could've stayed here for more than the one night that we were scheduled to stay.
Why you should stay here: 1. Nice, clean and well laid out property 2. Beautiful view from the old building which now serves as the dining area 3. Quite and peaceful surroundings 4. Very helpful and friendly staff - shout out to Arun and Krishna 5. Karzan, the manager, is cheerful, helpful, and knowledgeable about the place, history, culture and is very engaging 6. I have marked this property as not having a pool. But when I stayed here, we were told that we could use the pool in the adjacent property which is also run/owned by the same person And the minuses: 1. Can be a little difficult to locate if the driver is not familiar with the area 2. Gangtok town is a 90 minute drive away; if you are planning to go to/beyond Gangtok town everyday from here, please think twice 3. Food can be improved; the staples are very good - Eggs, parathas, phulkas, poori, and dal. All others needed improvement. 4. Has a bar, but best to get your own stuff…
This is a Village Themed resort with cottages spread out across a forested area overlooking terraced paddy fields. It has a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere with no TV , you can really have a good quality time with family and friends. The Food served in the restaurant was also good and affordable. We had a really good time for the 3 nights / 3 days we were here.
We stayed for two nights in an accomodation with pure village experience. The staff and manager are fantastic and ready to meet any of your demands. It is on a hill top and you are surrounded by breath taking views all around. The accommodation does not have a fan or TV but the climate is such that you do not need any of these. Good time unwinding with family in these times of TV and mobiles. Good clean rooms with any request met. Visit Rumtek Monaatery while staying here and hotel arranges for you to sow paddy in the fields if you like. The owner is passionate about this place and hence the entire place is kept pristine clean.Would highly recommend if you want to rest in peace and unwind with family. Mobile network is good.
It is a great place too stay near Gangtok. The cottages are well furnished neat and clean. The surroundings are peaceful and the view from the restaurant area is mind blowing. Overall if you want to have a quiet and secluded stay with your family it is the best place in Gangtok area. The food also is very good and delicious. The owner, the manager and staff are well behaved and always there for your help. The staff named krishna is so helpful and is always there for all our needs. Overall I will recommend this place to all who visits Gangtok. Only minus point is it is a little far away from the Gangtok town but that makes it peacefull. Also it is near the Rumtek monastery.
Its located close to Gangtok, still away from the main city. Very close to MayFair Hotel. Close for those who are interested in Casino ( At mayfair). Breakfast is included in the tariff. Food quality is good.
