A Holiday in Martam Village Resort is a unique experience. Situated in the breathtaking and tranquil countryside of East Sikkim, in the foothills of the Himalayas, the resort overlooks a beautiful valley of rich terraced paddy fields, bounded by forest-covered hills. The resort overlooks endless rows of terraced paddy fields and is bounded by rich forest covered hills, which form a part of the Fambongla Wildlife Sanctuary. This is the perfect location for visitors who love nature or adventure and for those seeking peace and relaxation. Guests may enjoy a short trek to the top of the hills to see the rich and unique Himalayan flora and fauna or enjoy the fabled Sikkimese hospitality among the villagers. The Accommodation is in 13 thatched cottages built in traditional style to blend with the surrounding village. The cottages have twin bedded rooms with large picture windows framing the spectacular countryside. Each room has attached bath with modern facilities. Great care has been taken to blend the resort into the village, to maintain the ethnic style and culture of the area. To remain rustic, yet, provide for a pleasant and comfortable stay.

I went here with a small group following a trekking trip in Sikkim. It occupies a sloping site with wonderful views. Accommodation is in small chalets, with plenty of space between. It is family run and clearly a lot of work was done during the covid lockdown, including a beautiful covered outdoor dining area. The bathroom in my chalet was perhaps a little tired, but as I had been living in a tent for 10 days, just having hot water was luxury enough. Great food, some Indian of course but also looking east to China. Friendly but unobtrusive staff contribute in making this a very pleasant and relaxing place to stay.

The whole property including the rooms has a low-key vibe. I loved how "organic" everything looked and it just fit in with the natural beauty of the place.
The open-air dining area fronting the spectacular rice valley view is among the best in Sikkim and flows towards a lovely deck area with a gorgeous pool.
The staff is wonderful without being intrusive.
Our breakfast choice of paranthas was very delicious and served on time.
The whole experience was top-notch and not in a pretentious way but in a laid-back wonderful way!
Prepare to be a return visitor!

So We had kept Martam as the last day of my 10 day tour , coming down from Rumtek when I first reached the place it put me in an awe . Such pretty views and the cottages were like the traditional Sikkimese IKRA houses . The farm expands quite a bit and you have the whole resort spread out . They have the activities listed and you will have one of the friendliest service.Dont expect high end resort facilities but be greeted with smiles and positive vibes . I had actually lost my phone while coming down to Martam and the hospitality guys helped me out to an extent of providing me their personal wifi for a night . But surely the magic of the place didn’t even remind me of my loss and I loved every moment spend in this fantasy village . Just while I was checking out the next day ....I received a call on my gfs number from an unknown person and he found my phone somewher in the Ranka forests . Truly magic ! And I will remember Martam everytime I look for hope ... thanks

this village resort does not deserve the name "resort"..
they have no facilities at all... the condition of the rooms are pathetic..the bathrooms are even worse..
the service provided by them is also very very delayed..and on top of that, if we ask for some service ( there are only 3 to 4 people to serve the entire hotel ) , the lady would look at us very rudely !!

they even charged us rs2640 for 2packets of Real Juice at the time of breakfast

the final stretch of road that leads to the entrance of the resort is very dangerous and its very very difficult for the vehicle to get back to the main road again !!
i have attached some photos of this place... kindly avoid this place..

A wonderful little hideaway tucked in on the side of a hill. Surrounded by gardens and farmland. Mornings are beautiful with the mists showering down the hillsides. Birds galore.

Restaurant, bar are excellent. Good local fare. Tourist buffets are what you would expect. Good, simple food. A little bland, but designed to keep the tourist healthy and full.

Its located close to Gangtok, still away from the main city. Very close to MayFair Hotel. Close for those who are interested in Casino ( At mayfair). Breakfast is included in the tariff. Food quality is good.

Martam village Resort is one of the picturesque and serene offbeat places We have visited till date....This was my 10 visit of Sikkim but for the first time at Martam Village which is about 30km away from Gangtok and 7 km from Rumtek Monastery ....The road from Gangtok is of so so type as we relished more or less our journey from Gangtok town...
Positive things :
1) Free from pollution and noise....just enjoy calmness of Nature and chirping of different birds with flora and fauna.....
2) Cottages ( about 13))are comfortable and relaxing with comfy bed , chair , fan ( as it gets a little hotter in the summer)....In fact this property' s cottage is far better than Concrete building of Martam Retreat which is new sister property of Martam VR nd Netuk House of Gangtok ..
Free room heater is also provided in winter...but there is no Tv in any cottage....
3) open space for kids to play and roam freely ...Ideal for Nature lovers....
4) Village walk , Orange gardens and rice and paddy fields will refresh our claustrophobic mind and revitalise it with fresh oxygen
...The resort management arranges village walk with a guide....We enjoyed the guidance and care of Mr Arun , a caretaker and local lad with amiable nature....
NEGATIVE Aspects:

There are many areas to improve....I think Food quality was "worst" I have ever had in any offbeat stays in my life.....And the price of the Food is steep and in comparison with other Sikkimise Offbeat stays is too much and pocket pinching ...!!.....Though they provide excuse that the food price was high due to remote location !!.. but regret to say it is not too far from Gangtok and remoteness does not mean you have to provide stale chicken curry and bitter or badly tasted fish curry!!... Despite our protest the resort manager did not change the dishes as we had repeatedly said the chicken curry was hard to eat and vegetables were not upto the mark or fresh !!!..... Instead the stale food price was included in the total bill...!!.. Anyway, We had to accept it as we ordered these dishes!!
On visiting the villages we found a lot of fresh local vegetables that they should have encouraged the guests to eat instead stale Food at steep price !!
Gardening needs to be taken care too...
**My humble advice for the Management or any other Sikkimise Resort owner is please visit at least once thoroughly KERALA, God's Own Country, then one can understand the difference in hospitality and care and what hospitality industry stands for !!.....A lot to learn from KERALIAN hospitality and affection with professional twist ......Truly, everything under the sky is not perfect , but in pursuit of perfection can only bring out happiness and drenched it with professionalism......

Martam Resort, as some other reviews also describe, is a relaxing stay not far from Gangtok. Wifi is available if you need, but you can get that in Gangtok so Martam is nice to detox from connectivity. Rice paddies terrace the mountainside views, and the little pitter patter of feet on the rooftops of our rooms reminded us that we were certainly away from the city and more in the countryside.

The food is awesome and the cook's son is an interesting fellow to talk to!

Recently stayed at Martam Village Resort during monsoon season with 7 other travelers from America. We had a FANTASTIC stay and enjoyed the lovely grounds, excellent food, and knowledgeable hosts. This property was a family estate and guests are made to feel like family --wonderful hospitality! This is the perfect antidote to Gangtok traffic and noise, and I highly recommend it for a weekend or longer stay. The views or terraced rice paddies and mountains are simply amazing!

We stopped for two nights at the resort. The setting is lovely, with many trees and bushes in blossom even though it was early spring. The room was excellent and the mattress firm. The bathroom was good. The hosts were always available to answer questions and suggest places to visit. We were with Wind Horse Tours who gave us a couple of hot water bottles although there was a heater in the room. The food was always excellent and even had cornflakes and toast for breakfast for westerners. Very friendly place.
