Walking into the villa feels more like walking back in time to a French estate. The staff welcome you warmly and serve you a choice of tea or coffee. They pay attention to if you come back in too hot (they then serve a local root drink to cool you down) or if you are tired (then they kindly allow you to retreat into your room). The outdoor area for meals feels like it took a page from the Secret Garden - they keep fans for cooking but with the shade you don’t even need it. The pool area is small, secluded and tranquil. We relaxed over a sumptuous breakfast every morning and never felt the need to rush or finish. The room was spacious and subtly luxurious. If I came back to Pondicherry, I would be hard pressed to stay anywhere else.
I went with my family and we were so disappointed with their attitude towards the customers, they denied giving us a table even when plenty were available. They were not even trying to be polite, nor did they give an answer when we tried to book before hand. Overall a very bad experience.
Location is nice, conceptually good but failure in execution . For a property at this price, rooms are crying for maintenance. Staff is polite and helpful, although the service is extremely slow, to the extent that you feel like ordering dinner at lunch hour. Apart from tasting menu, food options are very limited both in variety and in taste. If you are vegetarian, find nearby restaurants to keep yourself fed.
it is a lovely property bang in the middle of white town. Staff is very helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. Special mention for Sita. she is very sweet and courteous. Rooms are spacious and clean though we found a few cockroaches and one lizard. Informed the staff, hopefully they will take care of this. We tried the french tasting menu. it was superlative. must try Breakfast can get repetitive if you staying for a few days. but it was very fresh and tasty. Overall a lovely stay.
We stayed for one evening in the bridge to heaven suite, it was truly the best night away I have had in a long time. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, the room was spotlessly clean, everything we need for our stay was provided. The swimming pool was clean, candles were dotted around the pool in the evening, giving the hotel a very romantic vibe. Minibar and snacks in room were complementary, I really recommend, it’s absolutely perfect.
I wanted to stay in a hotel in Pondicherry which captured the easy and relaxed vibe of Pondicherry but also encompassed the French influence which is so unique.I stayed for three nights with my wife at this beautiful property La Ville which is in the heart of the French Quarter at Pondicherry. As soon as you enter the premises you feel that you are entering an area of peace and tranquility which is so different from the hot and sultry climate of Pondicherry. The garden is filled with tall trees, climbing vines and bougainvillea flowers and so rich in greenery and in midst of this there is a lovely old French bungalow with tall ceilings beautifully renovated and having all the modern comforts. The lobby is full of comfortable sofas under inviting you to rest your tired legs. Sita at the reception is simply amazing and she is so cheerful and adept at everything from organising a table for you as well as getting the wifi to work in your mobile. In fact all the staff are really courteous and go out of the way to make you comfortable and ensure that your smallest needs are catered to. We reached the room at about 5 in the evening and we stayed at the suit titled Indian Song which is situated in the ground floor and comprises a bedroom, a TV room and an attached bathroom and these rooms are so spacious with high ceilings and still the air con is really good and makes the room so cool that you think twice about leaving. The bathroom comes with lovely toiletries and also a rain shower and it is beautifully done up in such a unique manner. The fridge is stocked with 2 cans of beer and two 60 ml bottles of vodka, whisky and smirnoff apart from cans of coke, sprite and mineral water and this is replenished every day and is on the house. There are 2 suits on the ground floor and they are ideally suited for people who have difficulty in walking as it is easily accessible. The dinner is usually set in the garden but if it is raining they set it in the hall between the two suits . So if you hit the sack early and you are a light sleeper you may be disturbed by the loud dinner conversations that definitely carry to the room. There are 2 suits on the first floor which open out to the pool which is slightly small in size but considering there are only six suits, you have a reasonable chance that you have the pool for yourself in which case it is fine. But it surely may be more quiet although you have to climb a flight of stairs to reach there. I am not sure if there was a lift as I didnt see one. Location of the hotel is amazing with handful of lovely restaurants situated at walking distance. But since I was there on a holiday weekend getting a table at the restaurants was a daunting task and if you are trying to get a table at a restaurant like the Coromandel Cafe please book a week in advance if it is a weekend. The beach is only a 5 min walk and the resort also provides you with cycles free of charge which is really a nice way to explore the french quarter and take in the unique vibe of Pondicherry. I stayed for three nights and I was given a free tasting menu which was simply out of the world. I definitely recommend you to try this even if you pay for it as it was really a delightful experience and book it sufficiently early and also set aside 2 hrs for it. I also tried the Prawn curry and the Crab soup at the restaurant in La ville and would definitely recommend both. The breakfast comprises of fresh fruit juice, a fruit platter, an array of bread and croissants along with eggs, bacon and sausages. It is not a buffet and so make sure you ask for whatever you want like cereal or coffee. This hotel at the end of the day is an amazing place for you to come with your friends and just chill and have lovely continental food with an array of wines and let the conversations flow and just relax and lift your spirits. Its a hotel which is characteristically unique to Pondicherry and don't ever trade that for any of the hotel chains that are professionally excellent but lack the local vibe.…
The hotel is essentially a gorgeous old restored French Mansion, located in White Town of Pondicherry. 1. Rooms: We stayed at the North Side Story, which is by far one of the best suites of the property. It faces the beautiful and green Surcouf Street and being on the first floor, it gives you easy access to the pool. The interiors are absolutely stunning, very minimal, super clean, comfortable and chic! Bedroom and bathroom was extremely spacious, fitted with the best modern amenities. The private courtyard, beautifully proportioned and positioned in the middle of the suite, with its creepers and giant potted plants - cements and anchors the entire space. The other suites of - Escale a Pondicherry and India Song are located on the ground floor; North Side Story, South Side Story and Timeless suites are located on the first floor; and the entire top floor consists of the Bridge to Heaven Suite. We did get a chance to see the South Side Story room and I would definitely advise to NOT stay in that particular suite. Even though the layout is similar to the North Side Story Suite, the view from the courtyard in the South Side Story is horrible! It overlooks the roofs and terraces of a few homes and with no plants/shrubs or any greenery, there is absolutely no privacy offered in the courtyard. 2. Food: Food can be served to you anywhere in the property, usually though we always ended up eating in the courtyard on the ground floor. The ambience of eating while being surrounded by trees and plants, is beautiful and particularly relaxing and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent! Usually consists of a selection of fruits, eggs made to order (masala omlette / fried eggs etc) with a bread basket and a selection of cheeses, accompanied with fresh fruit juices and a pot of tea or coffee. Lunch and Dinner is equally delicious! The moringa soup, corn coated crispy fried prawns and vegetable coconut curry served with herb flavoured rice were all delightful and appetizing! However, the food selection is fairly limited and once you add the drinks up - it ended up being quite an expensive meal. 3. Service: The staff is exceptionally polite and prompt. Sita, the receptionist, was extremely warm and friendly and paid attention to all of our requests. Because the hotel essentially consists of only 6 suites and therefore limited number of guests; the staff was particularly sharp and constantly on their toes, being most helpful throughout our stay. 4. Parking: We had our own car and unfortunately the hotel doesn't specifically offer any separate parking for guests. The only spots available are the ones in front of the hotel entrance (a grand total of 3-4 cars can fit in parallel parking). So everyday was essentially a game of luck in seeing whether we would get the coveted spot of being able to park right in front of the hotel on Surcouf Street, or would have to park much further. The good thing though is that, with the number of tourists, other hotels and neighbouring Lycée Français - the area is relatively quite safe. 5. Free Bicycles: The hotel does offer free bicycles for you to use as per your convenience! These were super convenient to use and helped moving around White Town. Overall, I would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful and luxurious property. The landscape and architecture, along with the exceptional service make it a relaxing, peaceful and worthwhile stay!…
First holiday in India after 2 years. La Villa was perfection - location, service and food. From the organized pick up at the Chennai airport to our returned trip - it was a relaxing, pleasurable place in the heart of the White Town. It was easy to spend long mornings walking the colonial streets of the town and relax in our room in the afternoon. Enjoyed the food here and at their sister location Villa Shanti! Amazing food! - good mix Indian and French. The staff were always helpful and professional making our stay. A big thanks to the staff!
Food is not up to the mark. They offer very limited items in breakfast which are scarce in quantity. Very very expensive without any facilities. WORST HOTEL EVER VISITED. CHEATERS... Pondicherry govt requested to thoroughly check why such cheating
This was our last stop on a two week trip from the west to the east coast of India and we spent 3 nights here and wished we could have stayed more. The hotel is small just 6 rooms and beautifully appointed. The beds are fabulously comfortable. Every meal we had there was more delicious than the one before. There is a lovely rooftop pool - perfect for cooling after after a mornings shopping. Would absolutely love to go back
