The Patricia Guest House is a 250 year old colonial heritage house, in a quiet, peaceful and clean area. It’s in the French quarter, near to the French institute and the consulate, next to Aurobindo ashram. I’m a French national, originally a Pondicherrian, lived 20 years in France. I speak French, English, and Tamil. I’m an antique dealer, interior decorator. I’ve decorated the guest house with antique furniture and traditional decors.

I felt like I was home as soon as I arrived. Olivier and Patricia are wonderful and warm hosts available to help always. The house is gorgeous, filled with antique treasures of India. It is colorful, bright, clean, historically vibrant, the staff are absolutely delightful and very helpful. The guest house couldn't be in a better location, it is the perfect spot to go anywhere you want to in Pondy. I really can't say enough about how perfect my stay was there. I stayed for one month and could have stayed much longer. I felt very welcome and at home the entire stay. I will be back!

This was my second time in Patricia's place. The last time I visited 7 years back. That time Patricia alone was managing the show, now she has Michele his son to support. As usual wonderful experience, this time it was more so because we had our one and a half year old kid.
It's refreshing every time I come here, well maintained potted plant everywhere, bright colored walls and pillars, antiques all over, Raja Ravi Varma prints, Franco-Indian architecture. A small piece of serenity the is carefully hidden from modern day doldrums.

The price of this lodging is not expensive at 2500 rupee a night but the internet rarely works and you have to climb about 4 flights of stairs to a beautiful roof top to determine if it does. The location is in a neighborhood far from most places to eat and play but only 2 short blocks to the beach. It is great to be able to get exercise walking a mile or so to everything but a bit dicey at night. The toilet and shower are old and stained by age. Water pressure quite low. Breakfast was slow and the bread not fresh. I only ate it one time and moved on to better spot. The owners are polite and there are interesting decorations. This is an old and interesting home.
Very hard to find anyone to let you out of the place and totally locked in at all times. Quiet for sleeping with fans in the room. AC seems to be available but I would have had to crawl on the floor to reach the controls and it was only warm for about an hour each night.
No soap or toilet paper in my room on checkin. Had to seek it out and then the soap was a tiny bar in a paper package. Always had to ask for toilet paper too. No one ever cleaned my room in 3 nights but I really was not too concerned. They did provide a clean towel.

Local staff were very hard workers and polite but could not communicate except with smiles which was also ok. Not sure I would stay again.

When we booked online we were told the price of our room would be Rs. 2200. However, when we checked in, we were told the price was Rs 2700. They later told a member of our party that they checked the price in their email records and that "you must be mistaken, son." While the guest house was a beautiful place to stay, this deliberate deceit soured our entire Pondicherry experience. When I returned home, I forwarded the original email back to them but they failed to reply.

As a general side note, I would recommend Kochi over Pondicherry. There is much more to see and do there and it is much more charming.

I haven't met meaner hosts before. From the day we arrived the hosts were so mistrustful. They tried to squeeze every penny out of us. They were so miserly about everything: they charged 200 for a breakfast of a cold bagel, a hard baguette, and coffee that needed to be warmed again . The last thing we wanted was to be doubted by our hosts whether we paid or not. We had paid her son the night before and had the receipt with me, even then she called up her son just to check whether we had paid or not. I have never been humiliated so much. There were many more incidents, but I think this should be enough for people to know what kind of people run this place.

Response from Olivier S, Propriétaire at Patricia Guest House

:) Cordialement. Olivier

Rooms were booked with a few phone calls to Oliver, we arrived later than expected but the warmth, brightness, colorful and historical home of Patricia and Oliver just made us forget the tiredness and humidity of Pondi. Large rooms, high ceilings with AC and fans, attached baths and comfy beds. Felt like walking about in a museum !! The guest house is situated within walking distance of the city center and the beach. All help was provided in guiding us for shopping, eateries and sight seeing. The continental breakfast was excellent. Full marks for the hosts and the home.

We had booked 4 rooms in the Patricia´s guest house in Dec. 2011. Initially we felt a warm atmosphere in the heavily decorated house. But the rooms were quite different in size and quality and too small for the amount they charged (e.g. the showers did not work properly). Breakfast was very poor for the money (some bread, butter and jam – one cup of coffee – one green, unripe banana as “fruits”).
Unfortunately, we had to face a heavy cyclone in that guesthouse: 3 days no electricity and water. Patricia did not provide any help in this situation- no battery lights or candles (we had to buy candles by our own). To flush the toilets, we tried to collect some rain water in plant pots. Even drinking water we did not get offered (all shops were closed because of the damages).
In conclusion: the guests were left totally alone in this critical situation. Patricia even stopped talking with us, when we asked for a price reduction, since one room was not usable at all after the storm.
Rooms and service were not value for money and we finally were happy to leave this guest house.

Patricia’s home is as beautiful as her- inside out. It is well placed within the French quarters parallel to the promenade and serves as a landmark by itself. The house decor is eclectic. The rooms are small, warm and clean.

The guesthouse is ideally situated in the French neighborhood in a quiet street where you can walk to visit the typical streets of Pondicherry or go to the sea road. I really liked the decoration of the place, bright colors and many decoration objects and paintings creating a warm and peaceful atmosphere. Many plants and a very nice terrasse roof. The place is run by Patricia and her son. He welcomed us on our arrival and was happy to answer our questions on the city, he gave us a map of the city and gave us his advice on where to go.

The place is located in french colony. Near to the beach road. Quite and calm location. The ambiance is very good and room is very clean. The owners are very friendly. Choose a AC room so that you enjoy the stay in humid weather.

Had a nice vacation at this location.
