Le Dupleix offers a fusion between the rich, colonial heritage and a contemporary flavor. The hotel beautifully complements Pondicherry. It is a 14-room luxury heritage hotel, nestling in an 18th century French colonial villa, originally built for the Maire Mayor of Pondicherry. Now restored and modernized the hotel is an architectural masterpiece showcasing the life of the 18th century French Governor Marquis Joseph-Francois Dupleix. The 14 suites are all distinct in style and furnishings and each provides a unique experience. Its restaurant is renowned for its fine food and excellent wines.

It was a good stay. The food was good, the staffs were so kind and helpful (Ms Simran Bahg- front office). The only thing down thing there was a construction going on next to the property for which I totally agree we cannot blame the management. Good experience.

I chose this hotel based on its reputation for blending colonial architecture with modern design. While the building itself retains charming, old-style elements, I found the rooms poorly maintained. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a smelly and unclean bathroom, necessitating an immediate cleaning request. Additionally, the mattress was damp and odorous, significantly disrupting my sleep, especially after a long and tiring drive when I was looking forward to some rest. In terms of exterior aesthetics, it's a classic colonial masterpiece, deserving a 5 out of 5 rating. However, the room experience was disappointing, meriting only a 1 out of 5.

This old colonial house has been beautifully adapted. I had a downstairs room: very cool and spacious, with a four poster bed and antique furniture. The bathroom also had the feel of 1930s travel (which meant a slightly antiquated shower, but that was fine). The walls were had painted with trees. Dining was in the courtyard (not in the morning when the mosques were active) or inside. Breakfast was fresh and tasty. The staff were helpful and charming although service at dinner was a little slow: but this is Pondicherry and I was on holiday. It’s in a charming part of the French town with cafes and restaurants nearby and it’s a 5 minute walk to the promenade. There’s an arrangement with the Promenade Hotel to use its swimming pool.

We stayed here with kids for one night. The 4 star is for location and staff. It is perfectly located if you plan to see the white town and the major attractions like promenade, ashram and visit a few cafes. Staff is very friendly and warm. What was disappointing was the restaurant. They didn't have a breakfast

We tried the restaurant. first, the location is a hidden gem. It is located in a quiet garden with plants. Super nice and cozy. The service was good and the waiters were very nice and available. The food was good and the offer was very wide. We opted for a couple of starters and then two french mains. The chicken was very very good, whereas we would recommend the cheese fondue as a starter as it is VERY heavy. The tarte tatin wasn’t an original one, but it was good and not too far from the French one. Overall, we had a very pleasant night.

The exteriors are very well done. The staff is very courteous. But the interiors are poorly done. It makes the room feel dull and dingy. They never cautioned us that there was no lift. And they gave us rooms on the top floor. The quality of food could have been much better. Definitely not value for money. It is very steeply priced. Rather stay in a beach side 5 star

I share the same sentiment with the previous posters regarding the stays.  Be aware that most of the positive reviews are based on the dining room experience and not actual stays at the hotel. Note that this is cross posted to warn others if they were expecting a relaxing holiday, you won't get it here. Not worth the price we paid - read more for details. This place looked pretty and well maintained from the outside + their official website photos.  However, the service provided was terrible and the pictures are very misleading based on the angles.   We have asked management to address our requests via WhatsApp texting and phone calls (business account at +91 95663 66966), in-person (unfortunately after some time and with other timed obligations, we had to settle), and Emails to correct these issues with no responses.  I have since returned from my trip and sent a follow-up email to the following email addresses: ledupleix@sarovarhotels.com and gmpromenade@sarovarhotels.com for updates on our complaints.  This has been almost a month and our ask is still not resolved. I would stay away from this hotel and save yourself a headache from a relaxing holiday.  Treat yourself to something better for the money.  You will be glad you went with a reliable chain or another boutique hotel.  When walking around Pondy, there are much nicer and livelier places that we could booked at for that price tag. Below are items of some of the things I had experienced during my stay. -The bathroom caulk grout was cracked and not joined to the surface for all places in the bathroom (shower and sink) with areas that looked as though mold had grown. -The bathroom shower sprayed water onto the wooden frame, window and floors of the bathroom areas rather than staying within the tiles-Keeping things dry within the shower was very difficult and not a great experience. -The blinds in the room were damaged and could not be used properly. -The shower were dirty and not cleaned -The floors were squeaky -There was noisy air vents-Towels were shredded and could be replaced.  For a place that charges 15,400 Rupees / 186 USD per night, I think they could afford to replace the towels with something a little nicer. -Water leaked through the roof both inside and just outside our door due to rain that day causing additional water damages -After a terrible evening's stay with the water leakages, I was hoping breakfast would make things better. I ordered the idli and vada for breakfast off their menu.  There was no vada that was served.  The server did not comment in advance so I can order something else or be OK that there are no vadas available that day.
