Only a French flirtation with India’s bewildering diversity could have produced the refined and elusive magic of ‘Pondicherry’ which contains the magic of the whole Orient in one name. Now, this French 18th-century coastal lifestyle in India is brought alive again in a home which is a virtual art gallery with etchings and hand written postcards all over its walls. Recreated in high-raftered ceilings with savonnerie rugs and easy chairs to lounge away the afternoons. Four poster beds – (one accessed by three stairs ! ) – to help you recreate your past with dreams. Savour a French mansion full of Indian warmth. Enjoy fine Creole eating where Tamil spices mix with subtle French under-statement to titillate the palates of gourmets.

We had a wonderful four night stay at the Hotel. It's a lovely heritage property located in an ideal part of Pondicherry for tourists. The staff is courteous and helpful. The Manager, Mr. Suresh was especially very proactive. He did help us with some good suggestions of authentic restaurants closeby and also took care of all our requests during our stay. Highly recommend for people who are looking forward to a heritage stay experience in Pondicherry.

Could have been a 5 but let down slightly by staff training which seems to be getting worse generally in India (7 trips since 1991). Great French villa hotel with fine furnishings and a good restaurant. Service issues were staff on check in appeared to be a trainee and order forgotten at breakfast.

This could be a very quirky hotel in a great old building but it is extremely run down. Our room had some interesting pieces of furniture but unfortunately the bedroom and bathroom were in need of a good clean. The shower was so scaled up only a trickle of water could come through but luckily it was hot. The breakfast was very basic although you could have a reasonable omelette. Out of the 10 hotels we have stayed in during our 3 week trip this was the worst yet one of the most expensive. Not worth the cost. The staff tried to be helpful when asked for something. The website photos are very deceiving!

Like other reviewers I feel this could be a fabulous boutique hotel but it needs an enormous investment first. We stayed for three nights and I was glad to leave. It is hard to say much positive about our experience except the person in charge did try hard to be helpful and the location is good. Sorry not to be more positive but considering the price we paid it wasn’t a good experience.

Stayed for three nights. This could be SO good but it has a rather tired neglected feel. Rooms are a great size but have an unclean feel. We had no hot water for our entire stay, not a huge problem in the heat, but for the price we paid you should really be getting some warm water. Breakfast ‘buffet’ was minimal. Location is indeed great. We heard that they changed ownership in 2021 and maybe it’s been COVID affected but with some proper investment I hope they get back on their feet. Otherwise, the newer hotels will take their business

The place is lovely, but not too well maintained. Rooms are spacious but dusty and need a bit of upkeep. You would expect a bit of luxury for the price you're paying! Restaurant is average, lacks the ambience, but serves good tasty food, with a smile. Service at the restaurant is good. Management is very average, but Mr. Suresh stands out, who will go out of his way to assist you. Keep up the good work, Mr. Suresh. Try and book a room not facing the road, to obviously avoid the traffic noise.

This could be fantastic it is a renovated school and has the bones to be a great boutique hotel. But it’s sadly unloved has no charisma and though staff are helpful it feels they lack direction. There’s no uniform for staff - the restaurant staff are keen to help but not properly trained and tea and coffee are served in steel cups . There’s no breakfast menu it’s a bit of guess work with what you can . The room was comfortable but again unloved . Coffee was replenished. Walls need a fresh lick of paint . A hallway is filled with odd furniture . There’s no fresh flowers or fruit or objects to bring life to the place . It sells its self as a heritage hotel sadly that heritage has mostly been removed. It could be so much more with some direction. Most infuriating thing was our room kept tripping and in the middle of the night we lost power only resumed when we went down to reception. Not once were we offered a new room.

Beautiful spot in the centre of White Town Pondicherry. The rooms are luxurious the staff helpful and the breakfast excellent. We found Suresh the manager particularly helpful when both booking and dealing with a few minor issues we had. Look forward to staying here again

At first, I was worried that I will not be able to find a good hotel in Whitetown, Pondicherry as we were a family of four with 2 kids. I did a lot of research and called many hotels in Whitetown but some never returned my calls, one said they do not allow kids as guests and some didn't have their own kitchen. This all worried me till the time I found Dune de l'Orient. This place clicked all our boxes but we had not checked in yet so I was skeptical. However, all my worries went away the moment we reached there. So I will put forward my points now 1. Location is right in Whitetown with all famous cafes, Promenade beach within 5 mins walk at max. 2. The hotel you can tell has classic old architect (which we liked). 3. The room we stayed in was a Double bed Heritage suite with two beds in a very big sized room, a bath tub in washroom and a sit out available. 4. Their staff is wonderful, very attentive and helpful. 5. FnB we only had breakfast there but it was freshly prepared each time and all of us liked the taste. Almost everything was made to order and not kept on table as is in a buffet. 6. The People - Mr. Suresh, Mr. Kamesh and Reservation manager - Mr. Murugaian all very very helpful and responsive. Like I said, it clicked all our check boxes and I will recommend this place to all my family members and friends.

It used to be a iconic property under previous management (neemrana) but its disheartening to see current condition. Biggest turndown is sewage water at the entry of hotel, with horrific mosquitos problem which in turn is hazardous for health as well. Paid 25K for 2 nights... Feels absolute waste of money.
