Travellers' Choice
‘Gratitude’ is a home and a place of retreat in Pondicherry, India. It has been restored lovingly over a period of three years maintaining the authenticity of the architectural style and method of construction that was prevalent when this house was built. What gives ‘Gratitude’ its true essence is the quiet joy and peace that gives this home a healing atmosphere which is rare to find in the world outside without compromising on comfort.

voila - being a vivid traveler n always on the move coz of my profession - I reached a point where I had started facing difficulty seeing myself as who I've become - pausing a while was a great idea but gratitude and Mantra ( sister properties ) was what made it worth all .. I spent a little over a week in Pondicherry at gratitude n later Mantra early this nov, not bothered abt anything to do with my work or personal life but just letting the life in and around me happen - noticing everyday routine ( like shanti n her friends breaking the silence each dawn) and movements in n around gratitude one absorbs the that everything can be dealt with in a calm n balanced way - the passionately restored houses talk to you like a storyteller. Kakoli n Jyoti are nonconformist who are

Have just spent 2 weeks at gratitude- was a very good experience for me as a solo female traveller wanting a peaceful and central location in Pondicherry. It was clear a lot of thought had gone into the needs of guests staying at gratitude- room including linen and bathroom was thoroughly clean, very nice touches with lovely smelling shampoo and soap. A good range of choices for breakfast including nice surprise of croissants from the local bakery, delicious coffee- the filtered dynamised water daily delivered to the room was great. Had opportunity to meet other guests at breakfast-many of them artists and creative people. The highlight for me was the swing outside my room and the library- you really get a sense of the philosophy rooted at gratitude- from books on social

Gratitude is not a hotel, it is an experience! I just returned from 3 days of stay there, me and my wife with our two daughters, 21 and 18. A century old mansion, that has seen passionate restoration work that brings out a exquisiteness and craftsmanship so sophisticated and thoughtful that it leaves you wondering as to where the art of architecture and design got lost over the years! The restoration is about 5 years old and it exudes a contemporary feel and the property is impeccably maintained. The rooms are all around a beautiful courtyard that serves as a informal meeting point for all the residents and clearly it gets the conversations flowing in its relaxed ambience. The other common areas are a living room equipped with artefacts, books and newsletters that tell you the

This is a lovely home. It's in a great location and really close to the Promenade. The courtyard is stunning. I stayed in room 9, which was a good size and the aircon was very powerful. At breakfast, all the guests sit together around a large table which was unusual, but I really enjoyed it. It was nice to interact with the other guests. Jyoti joined us for breakfast and gave us lots of travel tips. Vijay is fantastic and goes above and beyond to help. He is a great asset to Gratitude! The only negative experience I had was when I first arrived, Kakoli, was shouting, rather aggressively, at the staff team. As a guest, it wasn't nice to witness!

Thank you for all the nice things you have said about GRATITUDE. It is indeed a special place and I, personally, take great pains to make it remains so. It is necessary to clarify here that what you had witnessed was not aggressive shouting at the staff but at a team of technicians who were responsible for putting up some cables. In the process of doing that they had punched holes through walls which are absolutely not acceptable for an old building like GRATITUDE. This they did despite clear instructions not to do so and I apologize that you had to witness my reprimanding them for their careless and irresponsible act. As far as our staff are considered, I think we have the best that one could have. We are like a family at GRATITUDE and the last thing I would do is talk to them aggressively, under any circumstance. I do reprimand them occasionally whenever required and I am sure you will agree that as an owner/manager, it is sometimes required in order to maintain the high standards that we aspire for.

I stayed in Gratitude for two days in October. Its a beautiful heritage building, well maintained and with excellent staff. They take care of your smallest needs. The rooms are beautiful and the place itself is green and so calming. An excellent place to unwind and relax. I would highly recommend this historical and picturesque Heritage Home.
