We stay in Monte do Carmo for the first time in January 2012, from then almost every year we return. Wonderful place, with a beautiful central chapel surrounded by the rooms and restaurant and resting area. Fantastic biological pool, with a great sun deck. I needed a place near Lisbon where one could walk, think in peace and read amid trees. Monte do Carmo has all that, plus a small baroque chapel in the midst of a group of lodgings that used to receive pilgrims. The individual houses have been lovely restored and now receive tourists who are not looking for the Algarve beaches... More

We came across this hotel when looking to tour the Alentejo region. We've stayed for a week at Monte do Carmo, and coming from another resort, a comparison quickly occurred : Time was just passing very slow … awesome. This hotel is in a really unique setting and a great option for staying in the Evora area -- it's not far from the city, yet you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere - in a really nice way. The hotel is located in the city of Azaruja, 28 km away from Evora. The main thing is the silence and the field. The hotel has all the infrastructure, including the internet (wifi). This hotel is a little away from Azaruja and is accessible via a dirt road. Formerly an hermitage that was converted into a hotel. Very beautiful and peaceful place. It has a biological pool that we did not try. Rooms in good condition and quite spacious.

This excelent hotel includes the old houses were pilgrims stayed in Lady of Carmo annual pilgrimage. Nicely rebuilt. The church is very pretty, can be visited (just ask in the reception) and features several very old ex-votos (wood paintings relayed to miracles attributed to the Lady of Carmo). We stayed at 10 hotels in Portugal and this was one of our more interesting destinations.
