Staying at this hostel is great for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The staff advised us not to take the shuttle back to the car-park, but just to hitch-hike, at is saved us 30 dollars per person. The hostel itself has an interesting atmosphere, everyone is allowed to write, paint and stick things on the walls, so it is a...

This is a very quirky hostel run by a guy name Ian who ensures everyone has a good stay and is keen to get to know everyone. He is a very genuine and friendly guy. Well equipped kitchen and big lounge complete with tv and a big collection of DVDs (although Lord of the rings is a popular favourite!). No...

The hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood. The showers are hot and the pressure is amazing. The ktichen is clean and well stocked. We loved all the art and sayings. Ian, the owner is so nice and helpful. He even made a cake for my husband's birthday! We would definitely stay here again the price and people were a...

Driving from paeroa to Masterton and back to paeroa but chose to stay over night half way. Wanted some where cheap and that would allow dogs. And this place was perfect. Awesome service and hospitality by the owner Ian, awesome guy. The showers were clean, the room was clean and the place had some personality to it. Well Suited for...

The hostel grounds look decrepit, but the owners keep the kitchen, bathrooms and rooms very clean. We stayed two short nights to hike Tongariro. Just let the owner know you plan on visiting the National park, and he’ll find another couple with a car. Basically you drive to the end of the crossing, leave one car there, then drive to...

Great place to stay if you like nice talks with everyone around you. Ian, the owner of the place knows everything about the neighborhood, local attractions and the best way to discover that. Don't hesitate to ask! And actually talk to everyone, you'll make the most out of your journey when you open-up, not just staring at your mobile. I...

Ian the owner and also his son really make a difference. Frankly saying, the bedrooms, toilets and the kitchen are not the newest models, but still ok and working. We stayed just one night, it was pretty calm. Car parking directly in front of our room. There are a lot of furniture and stuff spread around. There is definitely a...

The owners, without exception, were the most helpful I've ever come across giving me tips on the local amenities and attractions. It was the perfect location for the Tongoriro Alpine Crossing and many other walks round this area that I wasn't aware of. I had only booked 2 nights but would have liked to have stayed a lot longer because...
