We walked in to the hostel and luckily there's space for us. Stayed in a shared girls' dorm. This YHA was special because it is located in the farm - get a little glimpse of farm stay. You can greet the super friendly cow, sheep and cute little lamb. Plus, the pigs. There's plenty of shower rooms and toilets for...

This hostel was just so perfect! Between the adorable dog in the common area, to the neighbor's goat, pig, and deer peering through the fence, to the baby lamb on the property, I really felt like I was in rural NZ. The building also has a wonderful wrap-around porch so you can soak up the fresh air and scenery. The...

This hostel is another YHA hostel which I have really enjoyed staying with. Dave the manager is very friendly outgoing and fun to be around. The beds are nice, rooms clean and a very quiet farm setting. The TV room is comfy and the kitchen nice. I wanted to go for a short walk and the manager gave me a...

The hostel has a really lovely atmosphere, set amongst a farm and surrounded by rolling countryside and animals. Myself and a friend stayed here for two nights, and Steph who greeted us was lovely and I immediately felt at home. It's right above the black water rafting place, and maybe a 15 min walk into town, but the manager was...

Stayed at the camping grounds for 2 days. The facilities are good enough for what you pay. The first day the girl at the reception desk was nice and welcoming. The second day the manager was not so great. Made me feel as though I couldn't ask questions as I should already know the answers to them (weird sarcasm). Even...

The owner was welcoming, friendly, and armed with a cutting sense of humor that served to skewer a politically-miserable American such as myself. As I walked into my first ever hostel experience, alone and weary from a day of caving only a stone's throw distance (across the street really) in Aranui Caves, I have to admit I was a bit...

Juno Hostel is located within the boundary of Waitomo Village (5 mins by car to the centre of the village?) and feels more like a home stay than a hostel experience. It resembles a long wood cabin with a very homely and inviting communal area (kitchen, lounge, dining). We stayed for the night in a double ensuite room and found...

Cosy hostel with very knowledgeable staff which is super important here as the number of tour operators is a bit overwhelming. Huge kitchen with lots of equipment and cosy dorm rooms. It loses a star as the mattresses are just foam blocks not proper mattresses (still quite comfy) and you have to pay for any wifi which is a bit...

Dave, guy who runs the hostel, is a trip (in a good way). Clean, very well kept (both dorms and kitchen). Laundry on-site. ANIMALS ON-SITE: Dave's dog, a baby goat, some pigs and sheep (although these guys are fenced in). Dave, while quirky, is incredibly accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend.

Great YHA - has many warm cosy rooms plus unpowered and powered sites for vans and tents (I stayed on 1 of the 2 powered sites with my camper-van). Location: Excellent - about 1 mile outside Waitomo Caves village and next to Waitomo Adventures. Facilities: Excellent - big warm lounging area, lovely well equipped kitchen, several showers with plentiful hot...
