We stayed at the room at the top of the house. A lot of stairs but the view was great. Had a good night's sleep. Lots of good bars and restaurants nearby. Good place to start your coast to coast walk via Hadrian's Wall. Breakfast was amazing. Will look to stay there again of we are in Newcastle

Close to the sea and the bars and restaurants. You can walk everywhere including the train to go to Wallsend to start your Hadrian's Wall walk. Charming hostess has lots of tips for where to go. We ate at the Longsands Fish Kitchen. Brilliant fish pie.

We stayed at the Martineau guest house over Easter bank holiday. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a great selection of teas and coffees. What really made the trip for us was our hostess Sally who provided us with some truly memorable breakfasts. She is a very gifted cook and also very knowledgeable about the local area. We...

Excellent breakfast - home cooked, well thought out and tasty. This set us up for the start of our Hadrian's Wall Walk. Welcoming host - engaging conversation. The whole experience was great and we would recommended for friends staying in Tynemouth.

Martineau Guest House was my first night's stay, prior to starting on the Hadrian's wall walk. It was a little bit of a walk from the train station at Tynemouth, but not far even dragging a bag with me (and I'd learn a shortcut afterwards from the owner). The entrance is slightly hidden, in a little walkway behind an iron...

Excellent breakfast, both options of continental + cooked were brilliant, you get a cute order form to fill out and pick what you want (This B&B offers florentine, omelette, cooked breakfast etc!). The room was lovely, great attention to details like your milk being kept in a flask so stays cool for your morning cup of tea. We had the...

A lovely place to stay. Sally is warm and welcoming, her breakfasts are superb and worth a visit alone. Freshly cooked breakfasts, homemade bread and wonderful jams. Our bedroom had an amazing view over the Tyne and sea, I could have sat all day just looking out of the window. The whole house had a therapeutic atmosphere, definitely a place...

We arrived late on a Friday evening (having arranged this in advance) and couldn't have been more enchanted with the place. It has a lovely quirky and individual feel that reflects Sally's character. Our room was lovely with a great view which we were to discover in the light of the morning (binoculars provided). Lots of nice touches such as...

Superb. A really welcoming guest house. From the home baked biscuits and fresh coffee available in the room to the comfortable and cosy rooms and the excellent cuisine it is a gem. Sally who runs the Martineau is a real star.

Right in the middle of the village only 100m from the sea view. Really interesting additional offerings for breakfast that are HUGE and beautifully cooked. Nice warm welcome. If the communal breakfast arrangement isn't your thing you can have continental breakfast in your room.
