The Albergo Marconi was clean and bright, but there were som buts! We passed the frontdesk several times every day,the boss was there always, there was never a spontanous hello- how are you- nice on the beach- had a good meal? etc. We missed that!
We had a family room with a double bed and 2 singel beds, a balcony with a wiew of the beach and the see. 4 sunbeds and 2 umbrellas at the nearby beach was included in the roomprice, we payed 170 Eu/night with breakfast. The beach was clean and comfortable, a nice place to stay the whole day! Wery suitable for children. The Albergo was at the end of the street butween the new and the old city, this ment a lot of noice from the street, both from cars and passing people in the evening/nights.We had to have the doors to the balcony open to get some wind during the nights, and also a open window at the back of the room facing a local restaurants garden and tables...) The aircondition could not be used, the hotel boss ment it was not so warm ( 25 grades celsius and pluss is warm for a family from Norway...).
Eating in the room was not allowed, always a bit troublesome when your are travelling with children. Surprisingly we were also charged for the wather in the fridgerator in the room, even if there were absolutely NO sign about this, no price list etc. We thought some botles of wather every day was a gesture from the hotel.... The boss looked at me as I was from space when I tried to refuse to pay, very uncomfortable- I did pay.
I was also surprised by the fact that the hotel wanted cash payment, this was never mentioned when making the reservation by mail. The cashpoints in the town didn't work neither for me or my husband. ( and for several other tourists) The local bank ment something was wrong with my 3 different cards...., my banks could not confirm it. Finaly I managed to transfer money with me internetbank to the hotels acount.
Sperlonga is a bit too small place for such a long stay as 6 nights, there were little signs of 'normal non-touristic italian life', we missed that! We had dinner at restaurants every night, the service varied a lot. Generaly the food was priced higher than similar (better!) food in central historic Rome.
We will never go back to Sperlonga or to Albergo Marconi. But we would like to move the beach up to last years summer city; Santa Margherita in Ligure. That would be perfect!
Very good location close to the beach and with free access to the beach. Nice fairly room with clean bathroom. Free parking and breakfast was also offered with the rate.
Overall a pleasant stay, but just a few issues:
- The breakfast was really weak, only a few choices with several items pre-packaged. Also, this must be the only one hotel or B&B in Italy that does not offer espresso! Not a big deal, several small places just around the corner
- The parking offered was in a parking lot where the parking was limited to 30 minutes – and although I was re-assured by the owner that I will not have any issues. It was a little stressful especially because there was a police station very close by. I have to assume that the owner had good connections because nobody bothered us concerning the parking.
I would not hesitate to stay again at this place or recommend it to anyone else especially because the excellent location and quality of the rooms.
The hotel looks out over the water with a 50 metre walk to the beach with umbrella and lounges waiting for you to enjoy!
The Hotel is run by the fifth generation of the Toscano family with Nonna Toscano cooking the evening meals which were simply delicious we felt like we were part of the family, our waiter Antonio (son) who is also a Lawyer by day and waiter by night made us feel right at home when my husband asked him for some dancing music he obliged and we had people dancing and singing in the street as they joined in, so much fun.
The rooms were very clean but simple, we would go back again to this Hotel and Nonna’s cooking as breakfast & Dinner were included very good value for money!
Sperlonga is a must see such a quaint beachside resort with the old town perched up on the hill overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
I read some reviews that the owner us grumpy, i think he just has a lack of english .
His assistants are more than helpful and welcoming
This is a basic hotel , wi fi is very good in the rooms and its location is as good as you need. Don't expect the Hilton but then again the hotel is clean and comfortable.
Booked rooms also come with an umbrella and 2 deck chairs to the beach which is a stones throw away
We came here two years ago and stayed at this hotel and jumped at the chance to spend a couple of nights here before heading back to Rome
The breakfast was very poor, only bread and cakes which were not very fresh. At breakfast we met an American couple who had been there for 12 days and she was bringing in her own food for breakfast so we felt sorry for them and invited them to our studio apartment which we were moving to.
