We really enjoyed our holiday. With entertainment and Carlos was so helpful and so good with our kids. The staff were very friendly and we felt right at home in the warm and embracing environment of this beautiful hotel surrounded by green vegetation and flowers. It felt and looked like an authentic cosy little village. We'll be back

We have just returned from a much needed week away at Club Lyda Hotel. It's an attractive hotel with very well kept grounds and friendly staff. It is a good, solid, great value 3 star hotel. It does not pretend to be anything else. In a normal mid season the hotel would have a lot more amenities and facilities that most other 3 star hotels on Crete. Being the end of a very difficult season, only one of the bars and pools were open and the on-site shop was a little sparsely stocked to say the least but there are other shops nearby that had slightly more things.. Our welcome was very friendly and our room was big and airy, with a good size balcony overlooking the pool. Good bathroom and great shower. We did have a very minor issue with the shower but it was fixed within 15 minutes after mentioning it at Reception. Never experienced that before! Must have been a self catering hotel at one stage as there was a fridge and sink in the room. V. handy for the drinks! Some reviews have complained about the 7 euro per day charge for the air con but this is a pretty standard charge for aircon in Greece - we have paid up to 10 euros a day! All in all, the hotel is a good quality 3 star base from which to explore Gouves and around. Hotel bus will take you to and pick up from the beach four or five times a day which is really handy as the 'short 1,000 mtr stroll' to the beach is a bit like an English 'Country Mile' - closer to 25 mins and double the distance.... Good bus service from the bus stop ( number 15 at the end of the road) to Heraklion and Hersonissos, Malia etc. for around 2.5 euros. The food is not exceptional and pretty standard for 3 star AI in Greece - not as good as some but better than an awful lot. Similarly, the bar drinks selection is a bit mean and quite a bit worse than we have experienced before and I do think that the hotel should take on board that the Bar and the food are the two things that will stick in the guests mind - how beautiful and well kept the grounds counts for nothing - if the AI drinks are bad. No Gin and no Vodka is bad. Ok, it may be on the grounds that they are very popular drinks and the hotel is trying to cut costs but certainly to English guests it just comes across as mean and cheap. And, my personal bug bear here, if you are going to charge me 4 euros for a gin and tonic, the very least I expect is fresh tonic and a branded gin - not cheap unbranded gin and flat tonic, which I should have got as part of the AI offer! Using throwaway flimsy plastic small beakers for all drinks is not very ecologically friendly and just seems, again, cheap and nasty. You may get away with it at the Pool Bars but not at the main bar, well away from the pool areas. So, all in all a really good value and pleasant hotel with a very few (but oh, so, important) niggly little things that could so easily be rectified. As a hotel, you don't want the abiding impression that the guest takes away with them to be one of cheeseparing and being cheap and horrible - especially when the rest of the experience is so good. Club Lyda is a good value, well presented and friendly 3 star hotel. You will not go hungry and you will not go thirsty. You will want to eat out at least once or twice during your stay but there are some really good tavernas around and about. As ever, on Crete or anywhere else for that matter, if you are expecting a 4 star experience at a very reasonable 3 star price you are probably going to be disappointed. We enjoyed ourselves and we thought that Club Lyda provided excellent value for money overall. If they can address the very few small but important niggles, it would be an exceptionally good hotel. I recommend it.

Stayed all inclusive for a relaxing week away, however, food and drink was disgusting. All inclusive did not include spirits such as vodka and the red and white wine was out of a tap - even the soft drinks were undrinkable. The food was the same every day and usually cold. Overall, hotel was clean and the pool area is nice, however, €7 per day for air con is very steep! Hotel is quite far out from the main part of Gouves which is quiet overall, would definitely recommend staying in Hersonissos which is €15 in a taxi. The shop across the street has a hotel on the back of it which we used for food and drink (very tasty and reasonable) and the staff are so friendly, bending over backwards for you!

We arrived late and was immediately taken to the terrace for some food and a bottle of water, rooms are basic but clean, good shower, uncomfortable bed. Air con is not inc however we didn’t need it. Food was a bit hit and miss , but you can always find something edible. The all inclusive drinks were a bit of a let down, beer, wine, brandy, raki or ouzo… everything else you pay for. Very basic day and evening entertainment, however we still had fun and the guy tries his best. Pools are nice and clean, however don’t be fooled by the pool bar, that did not open once all week. This hotel could be sooo much better, however we got what we paid for. Beach is lovely, with great sunsets and plenty of lovely restaurants to choose from. Can recommend the island bar and restaurant: Biggest disappointment for me was, immediately after we left the hotel, we discovered that we had left my daughters beloved teddy bear, I have on many occasions contacted the hotel, however they have failed to reply to me even once .. for a budget holiday, you can’t go wrong …

This is my families 1st visit to Crete , we stayed at lyda hotel , and wow , after the negative reviews we were nervous but we need not have been , lyda hotel is lovely, the hosts are wonderful, they can not do enough for you , the grounds are well kept , rooms are spacious and cleaned daily , the food is fine , always something for everyone. Located just 10 min stroll to the beach and within a short distance to many attractions, lyda hotel is perfect, my children and ourselves loved it and will definitely be back .

A weeks stay at club Lyda We found the hotel to be ok for a budget hotel, even tho after speaking to other guest not everyone payed budget price! Rooms are extremely basic especially the bathrooms tv didn’t work for 4 days after repair only got one English rolling news channel Air conditioning was an extra 7 euro per day! Lots of mosquitoes in the rooms Food was ok, breakfast was good eggs were great, plenty of choices, juices croissants / the best meal in my opinion snacks at 11.30 were a joke to be honest it one one type of pastry per day usually mini apple pie or strudel only on one day was there cheese, could be improved greatly! Tea coffee 24 hours Lunch and dinner were ok but nothing special but you won’t starve! All inclusive drinks were poor brandy ouzo beer wine. no vodka or gin or rum!! Soft drink were ok Hotel was located quite far from the main resort it’s a 25 min walk to beach down hill crossing a main very busy road The hotel does provide a bus service 4 times a day, but not really anywhere to stroll to One maybe two other apartments near hotel with small tavernas also a shop but apart from that middle of nowhere! Staff were nice and friendly apart from one maybe two, Manager was firm but fair and a very nice lady , we wasn’t happy with our room after two days of us being very persistent we did eventually get moved to a slightly better block and room! Newer rooms are 500s and 200s Pool areas are nice and clean also you could find a sun lounger easily most days. We had a nice budget holiday for the money we paid I think the staff work incredibly hard to make a pleasant holiday for everyone. If you are looking for a luxury holiday in resort by the beach this is not for you!

We arrived at 11pm to be fair they gave us chicken and rice and bottle of water. But when asked for coke they charged as we missed all inclusive. When at reception we had to pay €2 per day for safe which is ok but €7 per day for aircon when u have 2 rooms it adds up. Rooms are very basic with a fridge and hairdryer beds are like sleeping on rocks. Don’t think any off us has had a good nights sleep. Food is basic if you like same food each day then your ok but if your kids are fussy you’ll need extra money to eat out. Which we ended up doing. Last 2 days we’ve had to ring reception due to having no hot water 1st day to be told had to wait 2.5 hours for maintenance to come back. So 7/8pm then again day after so ended up having a cold shower as twice we rang down to reception and after waiting 2.5 hours and nothing gave up and jumped in. Then went down on way out. To be told another hour which is not on. Pool is ok don’t need to rush up for loungers and 3 pools. Spa do very good massages. All in all I wouldn’t be coming back to hotel lots of people checked in and out same day
