This place is just amazing. The staff are wonderful. Always lots nice nibbles and treats when you buy a drink in the evening. Bought sandwiches to take away for lunch. Had a pizza one night for dinner. Just really great.

We stayed in the Alpino Hotel for a week with our 8 year old granddaughter. The owner, his mother and the staff were fantastic. Other hotels and restaurants in the area should base their standards on the Alpino. The food in the restaurant is freshly cooked and delicious. I have eaten in most of the restaurants in Barga and I would rate the Alpino as number one. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful hotel to anyone.

We stayed here for a week and enjoyed the warm hospitality mentioned by so many. The room was comfortable and bed linen and towels better than in many more expensive establishments. My only criticism is that a small fridge would have been much appreciated. Barga is hot in the summer. The breakfasts ( included in the room price) were not mass buffet-style. Each table was served by a lovely lady with a generous plate of perfectly ripe fruit presented in bite sized pieces. A basket of breads with prosciutto crudo and cotto followed, accompanied by different cheeses each morning. We dined on 3 of the evenings enjoying excellent cuisine and very reasonably priced quality wines. Some say Alpino has the best restaurant in Barga. I haven't tried them all but of the many very good ones I have tried, Alpino stands out.

We stay here every year and love it. It’s a basic 3 star but there are some great things about this little hotel in the centre of Barga that make it special. The rooms and ensuites are absolutely spotless. This to me is the most important thing in any hotel. The bed linen is crisp and changed every couple of days. Beautiful white, fluffy bath/hand towels. Roberto the owner always make you feel welcome.

My wife and I were married in Barga in 2002 and have returned to the Albergo Alpino many times during the subsequent years. Roberto and his father provided our wedding meal, and nothing was too much trouble for them and their staff; we still have the little figurine of the married couple that topped our wedding cake. Our large families were delighted with the food, the wine and the attention; my mother who was 86 at the time was treated with the respect and kindness one comes to expect of the Castelvecchi family who have owned the hotel since 1840. This is a quintessential Italian hotel and restaurant. Returning this year for the Barga Jazz Festival, we once again stayed at the Alpino and were not disappointed: nothing of importance had changed - the food and wine were of the same high quality, the staff as attentive as always, the cleanliness outstanding.

My family, friends and myself have stayed at this hotel many times. We have never been disappointed. There are six of us staying in three separate rooms for a week this year and everyone is extremely relaxed and happy. Our suite (no 10) has a small Kitchenette, two bedrooms, ensuite and huge balcony. The air conditioning is fabulous and was definitely required due to the heat outside. The best thing about this hotel is its cleanliness and I'm a serious clean freak! The rooms and ensuite are spotless. Beautiful white fluffy towels. Crisp white bed linen which is changed every second day! Bed is pretty comfy though pillows are seriously hard but that's the only small fault I have, but I like soft pillows. Great location. We will be back!

We have been to Barga many times now and this is one of our favourite restaurants. Food excellent, same high standards over the years. Great selection of wines if your are not sure what to choose Roberto will give you his advice. Complimentary glass of Proseco when you arrive.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in Italy. Barga itself is very picturesque and has some excellent restaurants and is very vibrant during the busy season with Different festivals going on all the time. Compared to the nearby tourist trap of Pisa, the food is excellent and much more value for money. The Alpino offers a really warm welcome from the staff, the manager speaks English very well. The rooms are decorated traditionally but the bathrooms are completely modern and finished to a high standard with air conditioning - which is vital for pasty Northern Europeans like us! The breakfast is very traditional Italian - even including a slice of cake! The restaurant on the first floor is very good and offers beautiful food at decent prices. There is a popular cafe downstairs where all the locals seem to like to meet and drink coffee. It is a very vibrant spot with lots of local people bustling about and meeting up, it's enjoyable just grabbing a drink and people watching. The Alpino is at the centre of the newer part of Barga but is a two minute walk to the start of the old town with its steep, winding lanes. The lanes are steep but fortunately there seems to be a cafe, bar or restaurant every so often to recover at as you make your way ever upwards to the Duomo (cathedral) with its truly stunning views. There is no pool at the Alpino but you can hire a lounger at the local open-air communal pool for 5 euros for the whole day. The pool has quite a picturesque back drop and has a cafe onsite and even offers Aqua aerobic and underwater spin classes(it is not open all year round only from about May to early September)! All in all, the Alpino is the perfect place to stay to visit this Tuscan gem.

We stayed two nights in the Hotel Alpino and absolutely loved it. The owners were lovely and the hotel was well run. We also ate there and the food was delicious and we'll priced. Would definitely recommend.
