A wonderful home within the city walls with a spectacular garden and owners, Ron and Susi, all combine to provide for an outstanding experience. We have been fortunate to have stayed here several times and always enjoy it immensely. Ron and Susi provide excellent suggestions for restaurants in town (and there are many excellent ones within easy walking distance). We have also received guidance and directions to many of the small hill towns around Barga that were a joy to explore. Love, love, love it here!!

Dear John and Rita It is great to hear from you! Thanks for your great review, it is much appreciated, especially in this year of restricted travel. Although Barga and the surrounding area have been spared any serious Covid infections, travel restrictions have meant we have only had two months of visitors. Happily many of them are regulars and have already re-booked to come in 2021. Have you now completed your odyssey to visit all the Bargas in the world? If so time to do another round! Best wishes for happy and healthy travels. Ron and Susi

We visit Casa Fontana most years (and sometimes twice or even three times!) We come back again and again for so many reasons: The house. Traditional and lovingly restored by Ron and Susi. Six varied rooms: one with a bath (the others have walk-in showers), two with balconies, unbelievably comfortable beds. No TV (which for us is a definite plus.) A comfortable sitting room and cantina breakfast room. A beautiful garden to sit in and chill with wine, beer or tea/coffee from the honesty bar. Great breakfasts with local produce (some very local, from the garden!). Ron and Susi are well on top of Covid requirements and depending on number of guests breakfast may be served in the garden or in rooms. The location. In a wonderful location inside the walls of Barga with lovely views. Fabulous walks from the door (Ron can provide laminated sheets with instructions) and many interesting sights in town such as the fabulous Duomo. There are great restaurants just a stroll away, plus coffee shops, and a gelateria. Note that although Barga is in Tuscany it is completely untouristy compared to many of the cities further south. No big chains of stores or coffee shops makes for a different atmosphere which, for us, is part of the attraction. Ron and Susi. Nothing is too much trouble and both take a pride in anticipating questions and having the answers ready. They are so well integrated into the local community that on the very rare occasion they don't have an answer they will know where to find it.

I loved my stay at magical and relaxing stay at Casa Fontana. Ron and Susie, the owners, were lovely, warm and accommodating. I immediately felt like a long-time friend. The location was perfectly situated almost in the heart of town and within easy access to a free parking lot. I loved the garden, the views, great bed, and breakfast outside under the pergola. I highly recommend staying at Casa Fontana when visiting Barga or the Garfagnana especially during the jazz festival in August when the sounds of jazz waft through the Casa Fontana in the evening. . Well, it is fairly obvious from the reviews that Casa Fontana rocks - Susi & Ron are very cool, and genuinely into doing what they do. It is as simple as that. We stayed for 3 nights with friends and loved every moment. I think it is fair to say that it was one of the highlights of our 5 week trip driving through Europe. We drove to the area and got parking close by as per their guidance - no issue at all. Watch out for Ron though - he is sneaky and sets you challenges on local history. Sadly it took our group a few days to solve as we were too busy enjoying the wine tours, local visits, restaurants and bars that Ron had recommended. Great memories - we will be back!

It is always a pleasure for us when guests get into all that Barga has to offer. You did well to sample the various restaurants and the Podere Concorí vineyard visit. What makes it SOOO good? The hosts, Ron and Susi. You get a really warm Scottish welcome. At many B&Bs the hosts disappear during breakfast but Ron and Susi are there to answer any questions, make suggestions for places to visit or great restaurants, provide maps and guidebooks, or whatever you need. They also have an info room for you to do your own armchair exploration. Breakfast is a mix of specially selected tasty local foods, fruit, yogurt, hams, cheese, bread and homemade jams. The rooms are beautifully clean, though simply furnished meet your every need. The views from some of the rooms, especially those with balconies, are amazing. You also have the opportunity to sit in the garden under the shade of the grapevine. Guests eat around a long table at breakfast which gives you a chance to meet some fascinating people from all round the world. Obviously Tuscany is known as one of the most interesting and beautiful parts of the world, but the town itself, Barga, is an enchanting hilltop location with so much to discover, from the theatre, to the church, live music, to the many local walks to the fabulous bars and many restaurants (our favourite was Scacciagui). Book it now, you won’t regret it. We have already booked to go back (and we don’t normally revisit a place because the world is a big place with so much to see and do but Barga is special and Casa Fontana is truly exceptional).

My boyfriend and I stayed with Ron and Susi for three nights. Although it was a short stay our hosts made it the most memorable and perfect break. The B&B itself is beautiful. The decor, rooms, and garden are created with an expert eye. The perfect mix of modern furnishings in a rustic Tuscan villa. Susi and Ron went above and beyond to make our stay what it was - they were so friendly and approachable and provided detailed maps and excellent knowledge of the surrounding hill walks and restaurants. We are vegetarian and so they went through a map of the town with us and told us all the best places for meat free meals. All their recommendations were spot on! Barga itself is the most fantastic town. Nestled in a beautiful landscape of mountains with winding streets of yellow houses and terracotta roofs, it is not hollowed out by tourism but a bustling community filled with REAL people. A rare find in Tuscany. If you want a relaxing and authentic Tuscan experience guided by some lovely experts on the area.... you have found it! Also there is free parking very nearby.
