We including my 90 year old mother went on this trip covering Malnad region and North Kanara. Having visited Sirsi and Karwar just before Covid in January 2020 it was time for us to do another road trip covering the areas left out on the previous visit. Two concerns remained with us before we headed to Kedige Homestay in Kumta. One, will this place be good enough for vegetarians as most of the reviews talked about fish and crab! Two, it looked like the homestay was located in the heart of the town as compared to our previous homestays in desolate aread of Sirsi and Agumbe. However, we realized that all our fears were totally unfounded. The Shanbag family provided us excellent vegetarian food (cooked in a separate kitchen) and Mr Prakash Shanbag the owner treated us like their family members. it was like one joint family of elders and youngsters alike and they had a new arrival too just a week before our visit a lovely daughter in law! When the food is served Mr Prakash was always with the guests chatting with them and explaining. The second concern of staying in the heart of the town vanished too when we found that was in fact an advantage to go to several places including a private beach with silver sand tucked neatly behind this homestay reachable in a 10 minute brisk walk. Added to that the sunset point (very close), Yana caves, Gokarna etc., all were within striking distance of this homestay with good road connectivity getting you there within an hour. We loved this place and the people and the only downside is we will be tempted to repeat visits instead of seeing new places which of course no one will regret!! It is not even a month since we returned but we are longing to go here:-)…
This is our second visit to Kedige and it is turning good to great. The hospitality of the Shanbaghs, the food, personal guidance to off beat places are something unbeatable. This apart the linens, bed and toilets are clean and tidy. All these comes at an affordable cost. Don't miss the visit to the sunset point.
Nice and comfortable place to stay. Hosted by very charming and friendly Mr. Prakash supported by his wife, Pragna ji, an amasing cook. A ten minute walk takes you to a private and calm beach. The best thing here was the delicious coastal food made by Pragna ji. We ate neer dosa, kottu, fish cury, fried banana and fish etc. We really enjoyed it here and will definitely come back.
This is a wonderful place to stay. Very clean. comfortable beds. plenty of water. Quiet. On a side street. The owners are very kind, caring and helpful. We loved it. They are building a kitchen and dining room house which is a good idea. It is a short walk to the beach.
I planned on a trip to Gokarna with my family comprising of my Wife, Child and Senior Citizen parents and decided to stay in this property after going through all the online reviews. To my surprise, I found that this property offers much more than what I had anticipated. As a heads up please be aware that this property is in Kumta town (just besides NH-66) but Gokarna seemed like a stone's throw from this property due to well connected and maintained roads from Kumta town to Gokarna. The owner of this property Mr. Prakash is a gem of a person and the very heartland of this property. Right from our arrival, till we departed the place he almost took care of everything helping us in planning our visit to the scenic beaches of Gokarna to discovering new mythical places around. All of us felt so good while conversing with him. His wife Mrs. Prajna is an awesome cook and treated us with some authentic Konkan dishes and since we were non-vegetarians there were some infrequent items (such as Mud Crab) included in the buffet which was a pleasant surprise for me and my wife who loves cooked Crabs. During our stay in the property, we enjoyed all the meals and not to mention that Mr. Prakash also took care of all the baby meals for our 2 year old kid including all the specific requests that we had for our baby. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Prakash and we definitely look forward to visit your property again in future whenever we can. I definitely recommend anyone visiting Gokarna to stay in this property and the pleasant stay will surprise many with their service exceeding some of the ones which 4/5 star resorts in Gokarna also may lack.…
Days stayed: 3 nights (aug 31'2019 to sep 3'2019) Advantage of the stay is that it is situated in between the tourist spots. 30 km South u can visit jog falls, apsorkonda fall(Which is never to be missed, enjoy in the water falls and roam nearby...u will find a best place for photo shoot) and Murdeshwar temple. 30 km North.. U can visit yana cave and om beach. So it's a best place to stay to cover all the places. And the main attraction in this stay here is the beach nearby... Which is 400 mts by walk and 1 km by vehicle... Private beach.... No one to disturb... We had a very gud time there... Played football, frizbee, and also enjoyed in water. It's not so deep.. So u can enjoy a lot there.. It seems to be very safe... Food is also gud. Person there are very friendly and provided whatever we want. And if u r planning to visit gokarna.. After October till December is the best time I think... I stayed in sep.. So we missed water games and dolphin sight seeing because it was rainy out there when we stayed.. Still had a gud time... If u plan to stay after oct...u will have a very gud time there...…
Chose to stay after reading the online reviews and regretted at my choice.. Owner is not so professional, is quite greedy and suggests to visit places that would help him to make more money.. I would suggest to avoid this homestay.
Had the best three days at Kedige Homestay. Prakash uncle and his family were such great hosts that we felt part of their family. We were a family of 5- my inlaws, my husband and me and my son. The care they took for the food- prepared hot and served was just amazing. Got to taste some special Konkani dishes. The place was extremely clean. Uncle helped us plan our trip to both Gokarna and Murudeshwar and we thoroughly enjoyed the different places we saw and experienced. The best part was the time we spent on the beach which is just 500 meters from the home stay. So serene, calm and clean. I have not experienced a beach like that before. I have been using trip advisor a lot to decide on places to stay wherever we go, but never really felt like putting up a review. This is the first time and that’s because of the great hospitality we received. Am so happy we decided to stay here. Kudos to Prakash uncle and Prajna Aunty! Thank you.…
Kedige home stay is an experience in itself.. mr Prakash treated us like his own family.. check in time is 12 noon, but he let us checkin at 5am only.. the place is super clean with an awesome terrace(as big as my 1bhk flat in mumbai).. the breakfast was so good and different on both days that left us awestruck.. mr Prakash helped make us a complete itinerary fr both days.. The dinner at kedige was as luxurious as it can get.. crabs , prawns and fish along with enough tasty food fr vegetarians... we had a 3 year old kid with us too and special non spicy food for him... the terrace has a fridge too to chill ur drinks.. the place is super clean and very homely.. we had an amazing stay.. would recommend people who are lookin fr non-commercialised and peaceful stay...
had a wonderful stay and was amazed by the hospitality this homestay offers. Mr Prakash has been a very friendly and courteous host . he takes care of almost everything, starting from your stay, food and suggests some really good places around. i have to mention about the food specially.Doesn't matter if you are vegetarian or non vegetarian, you will be extremely satisfied with the variety of homely food you will get here. One of the best homestay experience i ever had.
