The Ranger's Lodge is the best place to stay in Jim Corbett. Mr.Imran (owner) is very humble and has great knowledge about the forest. He ensures you are comfortable during the stay. They serve delicious home cooked meals and the vegetables used are from their own farms. If you are lucky enough you can spot the Wild Cat from your room. Recommend this place to all family and friends.

Well to start with our initial plan was to stay inside Dhikala for all the 4 days we were at Corbett. But as luck would have it, the Corbett booking site had issues and the date to book kept getting pushed back due to it. And not wanting to miss the 4 days we had, I reached out to Imran sir through a reference I got. And that was the best decision we made in hindsight. There were so many hiccups including our little one falling sick after we got there and would not have been able to tide through it without Imran sir's help, forever obliged. Now to the place, its a beautiful cosy home, with the lovely family of Imran sir staying downstairs and the 2 rooms upstairs let out for the nature lovers. The house is right at the edge of the forest (Bijrani Range) and if you are lucky you could see some animals (even tigers) roaming around when you peek out of the window or verandah. Saw a beautiful barking deer in one of the many peeks. The Jhirna and Bijrani range entry gates are only a few kms away from the house. Imran sir will help out with all the safari bookings as per your need. And don't forget to chat with Imran sir about his many adventures in the forests of Corbett. He is very knowledgable and knows all about animal behaviour. But please do remember its a house and not a resort so need to be mindful about it. We had a wonderful stay and will surely be visiting again.

Imran Khan’s home at Ramnagar on the outskirts of Corbett National Park is appropriately called the Rangers Lodge. For me it was Imran’s own personal presence as a environmental knowledge resource on wildlife during our trip, that brought out for me the essentials of the difference between a homestay and a hotel. The Ranger’s Lodge is truly a homestay, where the naturalist, Imran Khan and his family open up their beautiful and well located home on the edge of the Tiger Reserve. (On a previous trip I have seen a tiger in his open garden, and regular sightings of Deer and jackals, and snakes and a variety of birds at the lodge are almost guaranteed). His homestay is truly the private home of a local person that has opened the doors to their life for a few days with a reasonably priced & social space with a wonderful experience of the flavours of life in the locality of the place. Imran is very good at managing the expectations of guests who set their hospitality rules according to hotels and resorts, but want to stay at a homestay. His impromptu stops at villages en-route for a taste of local ginger-lime flavoured Sugarcane juice, his introduction to Ramnagar favourites- dishes like Kachri- made of mashed water chestnuts, with added spices and tava fried in Amul butter. I recall one day Imran ordered mangoes from a nearby orchards for us to enjoy the season’s best from Ramnagar. At another occasion, he introduced us to strawberries grown near Dhela, and pickles and jams from Uttarakhand are always available at the Lodge. At mealtimes, there is usually a tasting of some of his wife, Kahkashan’s family specialties, Kebabs and Biryanis, and curries from the kitchens of Rampur. The home-made family recipes are usually also made available to guests when she is not in Rampur, as always she leaves a few portions for her guests to sample in her deep freezer when she is away. Meals were a fun gathering of all the house guest around a table sharing stories and food, and of course Imran regaling us with stories to arouse expectations of sightings that were to come in the next few days in the forest. Imran has a long 30 year engagement with Wildlife and Environmental subjects, and is also an environmental researcher with a Phd! Don’t be surprised to hear his stories ranging from Kaziranga in Assam to Ranthambore in Rajasthan and Corbett in Uttarakhand on a wide range of subjects that you should be interested in if you are forest visitor. While safaris into the National Park are booked by guests themselves, as always, Imran has always kindly accommodated and indulged my love of birdwatching, and wildlife photography, creating special opportunities, timings and places where the resident birds roost outside the park. I have sampled each of his special itineraries to far off Himalayan view spots, Gurjar Villages, and Corbett Landscapes that are replete with his extensive knowledge of local flora and fauna. He speaks eloquently on Sal forests (where Jim Corbett himself managed lumbering) and at once of the importance of ants and termites in forest regeneration. Imran’s gypsy driver, Jaleel is also a trained tracker and guide, and specially understand the needs of wildlife photography enthusiasts like me. My recent post-covid trips with family, after an almost 2-year hiatus, I have been surprised to see other guests set demands for hospitality according to rules of hotels and resorts whereas Imran Khan’s Ranger’s Lodge offers you a local flavour and experience like none that a hotel can offer and I should like to express my gratitude for all the fun we had.

We stayed at Rangers Lodge for 2 nights. We found the property in a shabby state. 1. Rooms were dirty and grimy – thin layer of dust on the floor & furniture and cobwebs on the ceiling. 2. Bathroom floor & sink had big stains as did the crapper / potty. 3. Shower drain was clogged with hair. 4. Terrace / verandah had not been cleaned for days. 5. Food served was tasty (his wife is a good cook) but quantities were miserly and most dishes served to us were left overs of earlier meals. However, the ultimate shocker were the numerous hidden costs Imran included in our final bill. E.g - at time of booking Imran agreed to accompany us on safaris and made it seem as if he was volunteering, yet at the end he billed us for it. Rightfully, we refused to pay the hidden costs and have made him refund or adjust against advance most of them. He still owes us some money which he's refusing to pay. All in all, a bad experience because what we paid did not justify the facilities or the services that we received. Avoid staying here. But if you want to stay here, then please ensure you ask Imran in advance and before transferring any money to him, for all his applicable costs as well as his terms and conditions, including his cancellation policy. Insist on getting them in writing. Save you from being charged hidden costs later on. We didn’t do this primarily because Imran came highly recommended so we trusted him and also because all our interactions were telephonic, big mistake.

Response from Imran Khan Corbett , Owner at The Ranger's Lodge, Imran's Jungle Home in Corbett
Responded 15 Sep 2022
Thank you Udayan sb. for your feedback, which is more of your frustration & stubbornness in not accepting the fact that the safaris once booked are neither refundable nor transferable. It was only this burning issue, which made you write a negative review as a revengeful gesture. You were recommended by someone very close to me & he had enjoyed the hospitality of The Ranger’s Lodge besides writing a review too. You may see A.G.Danish’s review from the reviews on the same platform. I am sorry for being infinitely late in responding to your review, as I completely missed it & my daughter just brought it to my notice. Although i have explained to you through umpteenth WhatsApp messages as well as challenged you to find out from the park authorities regarding the cancellation of safaris. Most of us make an opinion that we can book the safaris in corbett & simply cancel it by not paying for it. In the last one year the rules have changed the other way round. If one books the safari then the gypsy is allotted as per the online system & this gypsy will not be booked for the next 24hrs while the permit is never refunded. Only the guide fees is refunded while the other two components (permit & gypsy) get forfeited. In your case you had booked your safaris in your first cancelled trip from 25-27th April where i had booked two safaris for you on the 26th AM & PM. You couldn’t come because of your mom-in-law’s back problem & then you again booked your trip from 02-04th May & i again booked your safaris on 03rd PM, where you had seen 3 tigers & 04th AM. You couldn’t understand the point that the safaris on 03rd & 04th May would not adjust with the two safaris on 26th April. It was only this issue, which made you feel the “hidden costs” etc. I had accompanied you on both the safaris on 03rd & 04th May & didn’t charge you my fees at all. On 03rd May AM you had insisted me to come along for a landscape safari in your car & that was the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. I kept telling you that this is an important day & i will miss my prayers but you insisted & i accompanied you by charging a meagre amount of 1000INR, which possibly put you off! I had only given you this idea to do this landscape safari in your own car in order to make use of 03rd AM since the safari was not available in the park You seem to have travelled a lot & know all the points to criticise a property in terms of housekeeping, as evident from your review. I can happily accept few issues but everything at an authentic homestay couldn’t be bad. You can imagine the food prepared during Eid, which will never be offered miserly to the visiting guests. Anyways, you have taken your frustrations out & i have already refunded your money, which should finally settle the issue. I would request you to please visit us again & enjoy our hospitality as in-house guests at your convenience. You will pay only for the safaris & the rest will be on the house. Hope Supriyaji is fine & give my regards to her as well as to her mother. Look forward to successfully hosting you again here. Kind regards imran

Our stay at the Rangers Lodge was beyond amazing! The host - Imran uncle and his wife took a lot of care of us and made delicious home cooked food. The location of the homestay is one of the best at Jim Corbett - Right next to the jungle where animals come to meet you. At night we saw a herd of deer from our terrace, a wild elephant grazing nearby and many species of unique birds. Highly recommend this place if you want to have an offbeat experience!

We stayed at Rangers lodge in October for 3 nights. We stayed at the first floor. We had taken both the rooms with our extended family. Positives: 1. Imran's hospitality is warm. 2. Rooms are large in size. 3. Imran arranges the tours and accompanies too. 4. Bonfires are arranged. Negatives: 1. Hygiene and cleanliness are big issues in this property. There is no staff to clean properly. The existing staff are not trained to clean. There is dust all over the furniture and floors and seems its never cleaned. 2. Bathroom geyser was leaking all throughout our stay. He tried to fix it but it could not. Bathroom was stinking the entire time due to that. 3. Overall room prices are very high for the room quality and conditions. The pricing here is the same as five star hotels but rooms are no where comparable. Decide well before staying here. Given the high pricing and poor room conditions, it is better to stay at a five star hotel than here.

We spent a wonderful few days in the care of Imran Saab, who was able to swing us last-minute bookings for a forest rest house and also hosted us at his home, The Ranger's Lodge. He has an expansive knowledge of Corbett, a deep passion for wildlife and a friendly warmth that enriched our trip. Besides some great sightings in his company, Imran Saab's love for birding rubbed off on us and Corbett provided an excellent classroom. The property itself could do with a few tweaks, but Imran Saab's enthusiasm and hospitality makes it easy to overlook them.

Dear Devjyot Hello! Thank you for the much awaited review on the most authentic platform & yes, it is one of the best reviews so far, as I feel thrilled when I am able to inculcate a passion among my guests since I am able to instigate an interest in bird watching in you. I would have loved to work on the "few tweaks" in order to further improvise my home stay although your modest comment will keep me on my toes as ever. Always look forward to having you back for a bit longer, may be late November, for more lessons on birding as well as logging a long list of them since quite a few migrants have also arrived in Corbett then along with plethora of resident ones. In the meantime you should make an attachment with the birds by simply putting water containers out in the lawns as well on the terrace, as the scorching heat would make them thirsty and they would thank you for the noble gesture. Kind Regards Imran

It was a year ago that we arrived at The Rangers Lodge. We were greeted very warmley by Imrans family bringing back so many happy memories of our previous visits. After a very restful evening and an early start in the morning we were off on our first safari's, enjoying the lovely wildlife we were also very lucky to see a tiger run across the road. We also enjoyed a lovely trip to Nanital with Imran and his family. After a few days we made our way on Safari up into the forest to stay with Imran, we had a lovely few days with much wild like to see , including a large herd of elephants crossing the river. We were also very lucky to see a tigress and cubs at a distance. After our last morning we left with sadness especially as the park was to be closed due to the Covid-19 virus. We went back to The Rangers Lodge, watched the news with great interest to be told that India was going into complete lock down, thus we were unable to go out again. Our holiday completely changed we were now unable to go out or return to the UK. Imran was fantastic, he tried contacting everyone who he thought may be able to help us, but with no luck. During our time we had huge support from Imran and his family. We had some lovely cookery lessons from Imrans wife, Kakashan. She also cooked some lovely meals too with something different every day. Imrans daughter would very often cook a european lunch too. so that we would not miss home too much. Imran was the only person to leave to do shopping and always tried to get anything extra for us that we would fancy. He was also able to arrange medication for us when we ran out. Hand washing was always done as soon as he came home to keep everyone as safe a possible. After a number of weeks we were still trying to get home with no idea how and when this would be. We felt quite low and down at times, but with the help and support from Imran and his family we were able to get through. Eventually we had news that we were able to get a flight home which was arranged by the foreign office. What was originally a two week holiday turned out to be six weeks away. We would like to thank Imran, Kakashan and Kadeeja for having us to stay with them. and for as usual treating us like a family member, we shall never forget the kindness and support they gave us through such a difficult time. We look forward to when we will be able to see them all again, and so glad that neither families have suffered ill health due to the virus over the past year.

My Dear Jane & Steve Hello! Great to get reconnected after a while. Thank you Jane & Steve for the most touching review as the Destiny, this time, made us all one family, as we missed you so much post your departure on 27th April'20. Yes, from 10th March till 27th April, possibly one of the best times of our lives in more than 6 weeks of tense life!! Besides the review, we have already interacted so much & discussed about the ongoing pandemic, which has brought us now back to September 2020 situation, as the number of cases in a day have almost reached 80K or so. The overall experience of The Rangers Lodge can be summed up as a lifetime memory. As we set on our journey with no expectations other than a short vacation in the midst of greenery we didn't expect to return with bag full of new relations, memories and enhanced knowledge.. and a few kgs on self. You read it right, Khan Saab has given hospitality a new dimension with his humility and his knowledge. He threw open the doors of his house to us not as guests but as family. as one enters the house you get to note that it is the house overlooking the forest and the only one closest to it. Being that what it guarantees is good morning with bird songs and good night with gleaming eyes coming down to graze, or occasional alarm calls or big cats playing out in the open. You can experience it all by just being in the verandah. The walls of the house is no less than an exhibition hall telling you stories of different inhabitants of the jungle. The house is built with love and passion and an in-depth knowledge of traditional, Indian, architectural details and interiors that spreads across the country. It is also evident of Khan Saab's knowledge and experience of this vast country. Time flies in here with umpteen real-life story sessions with Khan Saab over tea, vast spread meals, bonfires. In true Rampur style the table is always laid with a vast spread.. Haleem, nahari, qorma, kebab, biryani, sweets… you name it and it’s there including the simple dal, saag, sabzi chawal. Guided by his knowledge you can never miss sighting the jungle lord and his subjects in his land. Experiencing Corbett without Khan Saab’s company is not experiencing in its true sense. Corbett is not just the land of tiger but is a complete habitat in itself. Hear it from the horse’s mouth and you will learn to value and save it more. With that lesson being learnt, being greedy I yearn to go back again to “our house in the woods”.

Dear Simanti Hello! Although infinitely late in responding to your most authentic review, possibly the best since the inception, the great satisfying feelings have been all around our hearts & souls since your review is absolutely touching!! I am really sorry for missing such a beautiful review, as the trip advisor usually sends an activity alert on my mail, which did not come to me otherwise I would have responded to you earlier. What a great coincidence that I reciprocated your Easter greetings this evening on the facebook while I am responding to your review later in the evening. Hope both yours as well as Ayan sb's parents are doing fine along with the inquisitive little one who had many questions even after returning back. I do not know if I was able to satisfy his inquisitiveness! Simantiji, you have really touched our hearts & I am extremely short of words to express my gratitude for such a beautiful review! I can only speak to you in a day or two to invite you again as house guests. Rest is all fine. Kind Regards Imran

We had wonderful experience at The Ranger’s Lodge specially interacting with Imran Ji during our stay. It is as authentic as it gets with wonderful cottage styled rooms, big courtyard/ balcony upstairs and fresh air to breathe. His house is the last in row right next to the buffer zone. We saw Jackals and Deers in night right outside the property. The place is also a birding paradise. The highlight for us was the Safari with Imran Ji. His knowledge of birds/ animals and trees is simply brilliant and that made Safari worthy. The food was decent but we specially loved the seekh kebab and gulab jamuns. The place is a good community set up with local boys helping in housekeeping and service. It’s an experience to spend time here at The Rangers Lodge while in Jim Corbett- much better than the hotels.

Dear Aseem Hello! I am sorry for being infinitely late in acknowledging your beautiful review on the most authentic platform for the avid & modest travelers. Let me first thank you for the most authentic points in your review, which further highlight its utmost relevance in sensible wildlife tourism. The point of " community set up" especially needs the attention of prospective travelers. Yes, my experiments with local boys during the pandemic has worked pretty well. They not only made some money but have been well trained in hospitality, which will benefit them in their future. This is the living model of "Vocal for local". Rest is all fine & look forward to having you back at your convenience. Kind Regards Imran
