We visited here during the covid and hostel has just opened 5 days ago. The hostel scenery is very beautiful with colonial houses in which your rooms are. However, to our disappointment we noticed that only fraction of the hostel functions were ramped-up, and most, like pool and bar, were not. Givem that this was much pricier hostel than for example their neighbors, El Hamaquero, we found this place way over priced.

We had a relaxing and nice time in the Hostel. We had a private room which was really nice. The pool area, the bar and the restaurant area are comfy to chill and there is a good vibe in general. The drinks and food were tasty and the included breakfast is also good. We did scuba diving with a company on the island and they helped to organise everytging. They also walked with us to the pick-up station to catch the early local morning boat as we had to be back in Cartagena in the morning. They offer free yoga and dance classes every day and you can do some snorkeling and kayaking trips (COP 40'000 each). The whole staff is really nice and helpful and there is always a good vibe which makes it a relaxing time. We enjoyed the stay and can recommend it.

Good easy return transfer from Cartagena - found the guy with the secreto sign immediately at Cartagena, and the crossing was quick and easy. The return transfer in the afternoon (2pm) is known for being rougher as the winds really pick up in the afternoon. It was a very bump ride back and we all got soaked ! So be warned, take travel sick pills if needed, put valuables in a dry bag, and just wear a swimsuit ! Good welcome & explanation of the hostel on arrival, and all activities on offer. Good restaurant area for breakfast, food area around bar for dinner, large bar, pool (other pool was not in use) and beautiful 4-poster day beds to chill out on. The 7 houses where the bedrooms are in are stunning - such beautiful bright colours, colonial style, hammocks on the balcony of the Deluxe bedrooms, big beds with mosquito netting, good fans, and even a lovely big veranda with hammocks & rattan furniture. Small beach, a few sunbeds for sunbathing on, and not good for swimming unless you swim out further. The tours are well worth doing - kayaking through the mangroves and out to sea for sunset, snorkelling at a sunken plane site and a lovely coral reef, and a trip to swim with the bioluminescence plankton. 40k each, or all 3 for 100k. You can walk to the lake for the plankton but i highly recommend taking the tour as you go by boat, they give you a mask and you are then in the safety of a group when swimming in the pitch black lake ! Not something I'd want to do alone. But incredible experience so well worth doing. Great buffet breakfast of cereal, yoghurts, fruit, bread, pancakes, tea/coffee, juice, and made to order scrambled eggs. But a lot of flies everywhere, and inconsistent messages around timings. Were told breakfast was 7-10am on arrival, then 7:30-10 when we checked in, then when we went down at 7:30, were told 8-10 ! So, the negatives. We ate here 3 times - 1 great lunch, 1 great dinner, but 1 poor dinner. The lunch was fantastic - chicken salad bowl, and fish&chips - good portions and really well done. Same for the dinner of chicken salad & vegan salad - both well done and good portions. But one dinner was rushed and seemed under cooked. Typico fish was very raw & rubbery, could barely eat it, and the massive burger looked amazing but was red raw inside. On our first night (a Sunday), the local village played booming music until beyond 3am which even drowned out the music from the hostel bar. Very disturbed nights sleep. But 2nd night was better and only music from the hostel bar til around 11:30ish. Tips : For a lovely sunset view, walk 5-10 mins west to El Hamaquero where you can get drinks and food too. And for a stunning beach, walk across the island to the far East to Gente de Mar where you can enter as a day guest and enjoy the turquoise sea, white soft sand, food & drink. Reasonably priced too, same price of food as secreto. Download maps.me for a detailed map of the island paths. You can pay for everything on card at the hostel - all food, trips, room etc and pay on checkout. The only things you need cash for is the port tax (18,000pp) and anything else on the island - food/drinks elsewhere potentially. Its a good base for the price, good facilities of pool, day beds, hammocks, restaurant & bar, kayaks, trips etc. Easy to get to other places for better beach & sunset. Just a shame about the 1 meal, and 1 night of music.

Beautiful, friendly service, delicious food, reasonably priced. We extended our stay as soon as we arrived. Based on the boat schedule to and from Cartagena, you’re better off booking for 2 nights minimum. Would also advise bringing your own beach towel.

This was one amazing experience! You get dropped off right at a nice beach and receive a free welcome drink. Perfect place to relax, snorkel, enjoy an amazingly good breakfast and try delicious food for lunch or dinner. They offer really tours for 40k, I can highly recommend the kayak tour where you kayak through mangrove trees and enjoy the sunset on the sea with a cold beer. They also offer free salsa and yoga lessons. Good place to meet other travellers but also good to relax. I also wanna mention the very friendly and welcoming employees, who did everything to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Would havr loved to stay longer if I would have had more time...If you get the chance to come visit this place, do it! 👍
