Detailed Reviews
We were very pleasantly surprised to find that the Horse and Groom had undergone a refurbishment so our en suite room was all brand new with a Queen sized bed so comfortable with soft cotton sheets and duvet and the thickest towels in the en suite. Attention to detail on these things makes such a difference to the overall experience and comfort. Also we could see that they are dog friendly.
My husband and I stayed for three nights and couldn’t find anything that could be faulted.
The bar has an excellent selection of gins, wines and beers including real ales and Chris the barman was always happy to give you a taster before committing.
The Horse and Groom have done a fantastic job maintaining a quality service and superb hospitality in these difficult times but you are reassured by their implementation of the Covid rules which they adhere to so I cannot recommend highly enough. Plenty of parking too and it's a great central location for visiting places such as Chichester, Arundel, Bosham and the coast.

I cannot believe the bad reviews that have been posted are actually genuine. The Horse and Groom is a fantastic village pub with an excellent restaurant menu and modern en-suite rooms that are dog friendly.
My wife and I Stayed for three nights and couldn’t find anything that could be criticised. The en-suite room we were given was modern and clean with a large walk in shower, the mattress and pillows were comfortable and the duvet smelt freshly laundered.
The bar has an excellent selection of gins, wines and beers including real ales.
The restaurant menu is varied and the quality and quantity of the food is good and also caters for vegetarians and I think some items would possibly also be ok for vegans. There is an enclosed garden opening off from the restaurant and you can eat outside if you wish.
The lady who seems to run everything on a daily basis, Claudia, was very helpful, friendly and obliging, as were the other staff that we came into contact with.
Bearing in mind the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 the Horse and Groom have done a fantastic job in trying to maintain good service and hospitality, and I would recommend that you try it out for yourself.

The Horse and Groom was simply incredible. COVID precautions were spot on. The food was top notch and service very friendly. The Guinness was poured perfectly and a really clever marquee meant we didn’t get wet when having a beer outside. 10/10. Can’t recommend it enough!

Friends invited us to join them for lunch in this newly renovated, new management and new chef pub - and it was superb! Clean, light and airy dining room with welcoming and helpful staff. Lunch has a small, fixed price menu as well as a good a la carte. We ordered different dishes and we all loved our meal. Portions are very good sizes, the choice is wide and varied and the sauce with my sausages was really sumptuous. Desserts were also excellent, homemade and just the right flavours to finish our excellent lunch. We shall definitely be going back - and as it was so busy we will be sure to book.

We arrived late evening to find that one of our rooms had been left as a double rather than the two singles we needed, but the friendly (slightly harrassed) man on duty sorted it out very quickly and efficiently, and we soon moved into our clean comfortable and well decorated rooms. As the kitchen was closed he then thoughtfully provided a table in the restaurant to eat our takeaway meal, and a jug of real milk, so much nicer than UHT.
The bed was huge and comfy, the room was clean and all the appliances worked, although the kettle was tiny!
Breakfast the next morning was outstanding, very good quality bacon sausages and mushrooms, with a very good smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. All of the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. In fact it was so good that as we had the opportunity we decided to have dinner on the last night there. It did not disappoint, again excellent quality ingredients and a small but well executed menu, also good puddings, which is a rarity!
Close to Chichester, history shopping and culture, and Bosham great walking, history and the chance to use the Itchenor ferry. The walking map in the rooms was a nice touch.
All in all would thoroughly recommend this pub both as a place to stay, and as a restaurant.

My three friends and I tried to get a little normality back last night when we met for dinner at The Horse & Groom. The outside covered seating area was very well laid out, with each table having its own heater. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. The whole experience was rounded off by the fabulous Zeni, who was very attentive and very funny. I'll definitely be going back and would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a wonderful evening out.

I went with a group of friends on the weekend, 5 of us stayed in their beautiful rooms (took 4 rooms) and total of 10 for dinner. The rooms were so beautiful, with vaulted beamed ceilings and gorgeous furnishings. The dinner was excellent, and everyone totally enjoyed themselves! Especially the Xmas dinners :-) After dinner we retreated to the bar with a log fire burning and xmas decorations made it extra special. A big thanks to Claudia and her team for a most wonderful experience!

Delightful staff, gorgeous bedroom and cosy bar and restaurant. We loved the vaulted ceiling in our bedroom, very comfortable bed. Good parking, nice restaurant with good food. The staff were not allowed into our room during our stay (Covid-19) but supplied extra tea and coffee and towels whenever we asked them.

+1
Arrived on a Friday afternoon with my wife for a 2 night break and received a very warm greeting by the manager, Chris.
Shown to our room and, once unpacked it was off to the bar which stocked a great rang of real ales and draught beers, also a fine selection of wines. Joe, the barman in the evening was a very jovial guy and recommend ed a great wine with our meal.
Had a meal in the evening and the food was excellent. The chef's speciality, who I believe is the owner, is a pie. But this is a real homemade pie which was chicken and leek. Absolutely excellent. Cheese and biscuits afterwards.
Breakfast was great, full English with poached eggs, lots of toast and a cafitiere of coffee. So overall the bar and the food was top notch 10 out of 10.
Accomodation was very comfortable and, talking with the owners, the rooms were upgraded in 2019 and then the pandemic struck, so very unfortunate.
If there was a negative the shower room/loo is small and there is a King-size bed in the room which is not necessary.
They would benefit from putting spring closures on the bedroom doors as it was noisy in the morning and at night, but overall we will recommend it and will return.

On the plus side friendly staff and good breakfast.
Whilst we were aware that the restaurant would be closed there was no ideas offered of where we could eat. The football was on and we asked if we could order a food delivery and eat in the outside tent, this was refused and the back garden was offered as an alternative. We took a cab to the next village and had a very good meal in the fox and hounds and watched the football inside the pub.
Room was very small but a large bed and tiny bathroom, unfortunately despite the Covid precaution promises my open waste bin was half full of the previous occupants rubbish including tissues which was unacceptable really. At 130 pounds for single occupancy per night and no evening food available it’s not great value.

Dear seaseaseasiders, I am pleased you found the staff friendly and enjoyed your breakfast. The takeaway that we agreed you could have ate in the garden we thought was fair due the the current problems with the kitchen closed, however you where not the only guest in the pub and did not feel it was suitable to be eating Indians in the marquee while we had other guests watching the football. As you kindly did say our staff are friendly, I am more than sure if and when you asked for a recommendation they would have been more than happy to share with you all 3 places we have to recommend ! Little disappointed that we could not impress you with our rooms, as we are a Inn and not a hotel the rooms which recently have been awarded 4 gold star from a nationwide company, we feel are suitable enough for your stay. As for the rubbish in the bin that you found, all I can do is send my apologies as you can see from our other reviews we have very little problems with clean rooms! There is a national shortage of hospitality staff as am sure you will have read in one of many newspapers, Unfortunately we are a pub that is currently suffering from this. The last thing we want is to close the kitchen. Maybe at this current time which is difficult for all restaurant/pub/hotel you could #bekindtohospitality
