    This little village was declared its own republic some time ago. Must be freedom loving people. When we were here, the place was full of bikers. The restaurant serves down to earth fare. And there's lots of beers.

    What a wonderful place to visit. Yes the rooms are small and the bathroom and toilets are down the hall, but that’s how it was when the hotel was built 100 odd years ago. The original features have been preserved which adds to the charm....More

    We were driving some of the Forgotten Highway. From New Plymouth end. Started at Stratford. Stopped for tea and scones at the Hotel. Very interesting looking at the history in photos up on the walls. Warm atmosphere. Great scones and a great mug of tea...More

    We thought th hotel was great -good atmosphere of a typical old country NZ pub; but would not stay again because we felt the accommodation was overpriced. Cost was $150 for the night ($75pp) but that was with shared bathroom... More
