In my view the 'Eagle Hotel' in the attractive village of Couvet, is an ideal place to stay for its aesthetics, its comfort and as a base for exploring the interesting Val de Travers. Besides there is an excellent restaurant attached with mainly produce 'du terroir' (of the region), which has a separate entry in Tripadvisor. From Couvet's railways station it is an about 7 minutes walk up the 'Grande-Rue', the main road, on which this former horse changing post from the 18th century is standing. At the front of the building is an arched gable, an architectonical feature often seen on traditional Emmental farmhouses, where it is called a 'Ründe'. Check-in was fast and I got a room on the first floor. There is no elevator, but help is offered, when needed. My room was looking over the terrace at the back. Some traffic noise can be expected from the main road or maybe from guests at the terrace, but only with open windows, almost none though at night. Very quiet with windows closed. The room was quite spacious, with parquet flooring, tastefully decorated and very comfortable with all I needed (no need I have for A/C at this altitude and for a minibar, which both were absent). The bathroom has enough storage space and there is even the possibility to get the shower full of steam, something not often seen. Breakfast has the classical Swiss choice with yoghurt, fruit salad, flakes and oats, with cheeses, cold cuts, boiled eggs, honey, jams and croissants. Coffee from the 'La Semeuse' roastery in La-Chaux-de Fonds is brought to the table, as well as the bred. By the restaurant is also a small shop with local produce, mainly with bottles of Val-de-Travers' famous absinthe to take home or for a present.

We were walking the Jura Crest Trail and had ended the stage finishing at Noiraigue . Despite being a short train journey away, we were lucky enough to be staying for two nights in the Hotel d'Algle a little further up the valley in Couvet. This was a lovely place to stay, with friendly and helpful staff, a comfortable and large room, a great restaurant and a superb ambiance. Fully recommended.

Really enjoyed our visit to the Aigle - very good value lunchtime menu, varied and with great local produce- and absinthe, of course. It is a short walk from a great local distiller, and the railway station is just down the road to go and visit others and La Maison de l'Absinthe.

Dear Odile, Thank you so much for your lovely message and for the excellent review on your recent stay at the Hôtel de l’Aigle! We invest a lot of effort into proposing local and seasonal food, so to learn that you enjoy the quality of our homemade specialities as well as the kindness of our team delights us. We are indeed close to some absinthe distilleries – and a visit to one of them is a must for a successful stay in the Val-de-Travers! Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback on TripAdvisor. We do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon. Freshly renovated rooms, charming wood-paneled dining room, good food with local touch (e.g. the Val de Travers buffalo and absinthe desserts), activities galore (don't miss the 55 km e-bike tour of the Creux du Van and the Gorges de l'Areuse hike; the hotel rents out e-bikes at the train station of Noiraigue).

Budget hotel but not a budget price, even though we are well used to Swiss prices. We had a pleasant stay but for 200 SFR for a rather old and basic room it is over-priced (included breakfast). The staff were pleasant and all was very clean. For the price I expected the towels not to be fraying, the bed linen to be so old and not an out of date bathroom. We ate at the restaurant for the evening meal with set menu that was reasonable.

Dear Jane Many thanks for taking the opportunity to share your review of your recent stay at the Hotel de l’Aigle. We are pleased that you found the team to be nice and that you had an overall good experience with us. We have taken note of your constructive feedback regarding the towels and the bed linen and our house keeking team will take care of replacing them. As for your comment on the quality/price ratio, we would like to underline that we employ our staff locally and that we give preference to suppliers from the region. For these reasons we cannot offer competitive prices in comparison with budget hotel chains. We very much hope to welcome you back to the Val-de-Travers in the near future. Kind regards, Odile Roulet Hôtel de l’Aigle Goût & Région / Val-de-Travers

The little town of Couvet is very nice. Especially with a brilliant absinthe distillery just across the street from the hotel. I've stayed at l'Aigle several times over several years and it's always been a very pleasant experience. The rooms are nice and clean and the service is perfect. The staff is very attentive and service minded. The restaurant won't let you down either. Everything from the simplest ham and cheese sandwich to the breakfast buffet and their evening dinners is perfect. This hotel truly is a gem in this region and I highly recommend it!

I have stayed here every June since 2014 when I have travelled to attend the annual Absinthe Festival. We always book the same room which is large and comfortable and suits our requirements perfectly. The hotel has a good quality restaurant serving some quality food but especially the breakfast which offers meats, cheeses, juice, eggs, bread as well as cereal etc. You can return to fill up as often as you like. Great coffee too! The outside patio area is extremely pleasant to sit in with a drink or meal. Always found the staff to be friendly and helpful and have never had any issues at all. It's Switzerland so expect to pay slightly more for food and drinks (breakfast comes included). Anyone travelling to this part of the world (and especially if you are interested in the authentic experience of Absinthe in it's original home), I would recommend this hotel highly.

After a walking tour on the nearby (2 villages away) Creux du Van we didn't want to drive far due to our aching muscles, found this hotel by chance. Normaly we choose 4 or 5 star hotels; this one we would rate with good 3 stars. It's a historic building, mostly renovated. Altough all rooms were taken they were so friendliy to give us a reserve room under the rooftop. This room was newly renovated with a separate bathing room and TV. Clean. Very good value for money for swiss conditions. We had a very good diner, amongst other things we tried different things with absinthe (the typical local hard liquor) taste (cocktail, buffalo meat cut into stripes, icecream): if you are a curious person: try it too, it's worth to do! In summary these young folks do a good job and we can recommend it entirely.

This is the third year I have stayed at the Hotel de l'Aigle and find it a marvellous place to stay during the Absinthe Festival. The rooms are enormous, and although the bathrooms are a little dated, they are clean and I enjoy the wood panelling and fireplace / shutters etc. The double beds are a bit on the small side, but the sheer size of the room makes up for it. The buffet breakfast is superb and the staff are always ready to get you a big pot of delicious coffee. The restaurant is fabulous too - great selection, great meals (especially the cheval), and great helpful staff. It is our favourite patio to relax on - big umbrellas if you need shade and a comfy spot to drink, eat, or just read a book.

Nice old building in the main street of Couvet. The room was big and clean, sparsely furnished but with only a very narrow (1.40m) double bed. This was however comfortable and the location is quiet. The bathroom was cramped and the fittings a little worn. Breakfast was good. We found the price however far too high, only justified by the lack of alternatives in the immediate region!

Dear CHvoyageur, Thank you very much for your nice review and comments, which are really helpful to enhance the quality of our services. We do realise that some of our bathrooms are rather old-fashioned, even if they are still in good condition and always clean, of course. Therefore it is part of our projects to renovate them. Thank you again for your time and we hope to see you soon again in Val-de-Travers! Best regards, Odile Roulet Hôtel de l'Aigle Couvet / Val-de-Travers
