Firstly the location is truly stunning. Beautiful views of the mountains across the lake and the island. Sunsets are spectacular and the hotel being situated right on the waters edge is perfect.

However, it is pretty essential that you book a lake view room. We booked too late and got a rear room with a view over the car park. The rooms are fine but not exceptional (it is a solid 4 star as someone else has said) so without the view you are aware that you’re really missing out.

Service is a bit mixed. On the first day we asked for bathrobes for use to and from the lake and were told that ‘you’re in the wrong type of room’! It seems that if you’re not in a ‘suite’ they won’t give you a bathrobe. Not an ideal way to make your guests feel special. My wife had to ask 3 times for a glass of wine on one evening - it arrived after 30 minutes. They apologised but it’s not top notch.

We would certainly recommend Lake Iseo - it’s beautiful and the Rivalago is good as long as expectations are managed - and you book a lake view room.

The hotel has a perfect location with great lake views and easy access to the island. We had booked a panorama junior suite which had the most wonderful terrace. We only stayed one night during a road trip around northern Italy.

The restaurant is apparently separate as when we had to pay upon departure we had to pay for the accommodation and the dinner separately. When we checked in we had made a reservation for dinner, but when we arrived for dinner they did not have any information, but we did get a table. The service was very poor, not attentive at all. The menu is a bit strange with some strange combinations and the dishes we ordered were very small – ok but not the best. The bread so dry, so we did not eat it. The tiramisu for dessert had nothing to do with a tiramisu and was not good at all. It is extremely overpriced compared to the quantity and quality.

The breakfast buffet though was absolutely amazing – so much to choose from, local delicacies, homemade bread, cakes etc. You can sit outside right next to the lake, perfect start.

this is such a great place... everything was perfect. We stayed in the corner junior suit, with a breathtaking view and a big terrace with lounge chairs, a small table, and two regular chairs. The room was spotless and beautifully appointed, with anything you may need readily available. The staff is superkind, from the reception to the people serving breakfast, everyone goes out of their way to help and make you feel at ease. We enjoyed the garden, the pool, and the overall beautiful setting. It's a two minute walk to get to the ferry to Monte Isola. The little road to the hotel is narrow, but I won't let that deter me from going back! The only thing that was an 8 rather than a 10 was the restaurant at night. We felt a bit confined in the glassed in porch, and we would have loved to be closer to the water. Service was ok, and the food was good but we had better in the area.

Two couples touring lake Iseo with old cars, I had booked ahead to reserve a lakeside room and parking. The staff were charming, helpful and attentive, the room was perfect, comfortable, very well equipped and with the most stunning view. After a swim in the lake (rather than their pool) we hopped on the ferry to the island Monte Iseo for a pre-dinner drink & walk. Dinner itself was on the lawn overlooking the lake. Utterly charming and both food and wine were excellent. The following morning the breakfast buffet put every other hotel to shame, delicious and very comprehensive (do try the chestnut honey...).

We stayed here for a week without a car, the main purpose was to be able to reach Brescia by train to see the cars arriving for the Mille Miglia race and then have a nice holiday walking and sightseeing by Iseo Lago. Hotel RivaLago is a family run boutique hotel. It is not a full service hotel, but what is provided is of a very high standard. The hotel is located on the side of the lake down a narrow cobbled street a few meters from the main road. All members of staff we came across were charming and attentive. Our room was clean and equiped with towels, robes, poolside towels and slippers. The very large bed was comfortable, the wardrobe space was just about enough for a week, and the lakeside view from room 207 was mesmerising - it was definitely worth booking a room with a lake view.

The hotel serves a buffet breakfast (which is truly excellent), drinks and lunchtime snacks could be ordered on the terrace and by the pool. There is a limited bar at night in the small lounge area. The restaurant at night is run by a different company and you may eat inside or on the glass covered terrace. It was very busy on Saturday night. We ate here twice, it is quite expensive and I would say the cooking is merely competent rather than "wow" but the location by the lake and the attractive garden made up for it. Sulzano doesn't offer any good alternatives to eating in but we found that it was easy to take the ferry to the Island of Monte Isola for a more informal evening meal where there are plenty of cafes, restuarants and bars. Public transport to other destinations seemed to stop about 8pm in mid-season but restuarants in the evening often don't open till 7.30pm!

There are two ferry terminals only a very short walk from the hotel, the further one serves the Island of Monte Isola and leaves every 15 minutes almost up to midnight. The other had ferries going further along the lake. The train station is equally convenient. The hotel reception is good for information about timetables, and the Information Office in Sulzano was very helpful.

We had a lovely week here, we used the local Trenord train service and the ferries frequently. They are relatively inexpensive, but we did buy a 3 day travel pass on the Trenord phone App which covered all of Lombardy - and used it to make trips to Brescia and Iseo, and had long day taking the ferry to Lovere at the head of the lake. Monte Isola is so close and we had two long days walking around the island and up to the Sanctuary at the peak. Iseo Lago is very scenic. We loved it.

What a beautiful stay. The hotel is in a perfect place, just on the banks of Lago de Iseo. The view is breathtaking. Service was also perfect, we enjoyed rich breakfast buffet and beautiful dinners in the hotel restaurant (extra cost). Another advantage is that there is a ferry close by, that you can use to travel all over the lake. We will definitely be back someday.

Follow a charming corridor of buildings and twinkly lights to arrive at this lakefront boutique hotel with a great lakeside pool, a grassy area with cozy waterside seating and stunning lake views. All a short walk from the train and ferry stops. The hotel is clean with a “shabby chic” decor style. I would have stayed here sooner but I usually travel with my dog and they do not allow dogs to stay (dogs are, however, allowed for meals, etc., outside). Although I stayed here with a friend, it’s an even better choice for couples looking for a sweet and quaint getaway. It feels relatively undiscovered here. Sulzano is a quiet town with fewer tourists (and in turn fewer restaurants, shops, etc.). We had a junior lake view suite with a terrace with seating and sun loungers, which I highly recommend (they can do twin beds in the room —just ask). The communication with the hotel in advance was immediate and in English as needed. There is room for improvement with lunch during the week (skip the fish) and also the drink service at the dock/pool. (Having said that, Nina was a particularly helpful and friendly staff member who did an excellent job every time we saw her.) Breakfast was expansive and tasty (FYI—the coffee was from a self serve machine, which was ok, but not ideal for those accustomed to a good, strong coffee.) Reception swiftly addressed any minor issues we encountered during our stay. (If your booking comes with a welcome drink make sure you ask for it, because ours wasn’t offered to us until we mentioned it at the end.) TIP: there is a trattoria just up the hill with outdoor seating and nice views if you’re looking for another dinner option.

Stayed here as part of an InnTravel walking holiday. Lovely small ‘shabby chic’ hotel. On the lake with ideal heated pool and decking area. Rooms a little generic but clean and had a comfortable bed. If we returned we would get a room with a better view.

Restaurant at the hotel independent of the hotel. Food nice enough but service haphazard. Hotel run breakfast however excellent.

Very limited alternative eateries in Sulzano itself - however ferry to the island runs every 15 mins until midnight’ish (c£10 return trip for 2) where there are plenty of restaurants.

This is the third time we have stayed at the Rivalago and it didn’t disappoint! We stayed in one of the suites on the top floor, the views are spectacular.

As always the breakfasts were delicious, so much choice and such a lovely setting.

We had asked the hotel to arrange transport for us, this worked so well and all our drivers were helpful and courteous.

We will certainly return for a fourth visit!

We spent two nights in Sulzano as part of our two-week trip through Italy. In a vacation filled with highlights, our stay at the Hotel Rivalago stood out. Lovely room #208 had its own balcony overlooking the lake and the island of Monte Isola. The rooms are classic, clean and spacious. Wonderful staff (Lilliana at check-in and Alessandra for lunch and poolside service) and delicious food for every meal. Make sure you take advantage of the pool and steps leading down to the lake for a refreshing swim. Can’t wait to come again.
