Sleepers is the cheapest option, providing great value for clean, simple facilities and very helpful / informative staff in the evenings! It's next to two other hostels (Coati and Sloth), in the most central part of town. Traffic in this location is audible from the road - so bring ear plugs. If the room on the top-most floor is available (room 8) - get it! It is by far the BEST room. Same price as the other private rooms, but larger and with a small refrigerator, sink, table, and chairs. It's the only room on this floor. Also right outside is a lovely covered roof patio.
My friends and I traveled from Tamarindo to Monteverde and stayed at Sleepers, and it was the perfect home base from which to explore Monteverde and the surrounding nature. Ronnie and his family are extremely helpful in answering questions and arranging whatever activities we were interested in (with transportation straight from the hostel and back if desired). The hostel is in a wonderful location close to wonderful Monteverde shops and cafes, and the kitchen and balconies are a great place to relax and catch sight of the Monteverde rainbows. Highly recommend!
To hostel is located great next to many restaurants and coffee shops, walking distance from the big bus station, great for whom is traveling by public transportation. The rooms are clean and big, breakfast is rich and served very kindly, Rooney and his family are so nice and helpful. Good prices, highly recommended!
I walked around Monteverde on my arrival on a Saturday evening and, as far as I could see, this was just about the only place open. The owners are super helpful though so I was pleased by the decision that was basically made for me! They went through when the park opened, a few things to do in the area, and even made a phone call to check on shuttle buses to the park (not running). The bed was comfortable and the shower nice. For the low price and the excellent location close to the bus station and the rest of downtown Santa Elena, this is an excellent budget option. I didn't try any of the food but the drink I had was excellent. Overall, I highly recommend. NOTE ON BUSES TO MONTEVERDE: This is a side note but it is worth checking the Transmonteverde Bus page on FB if travelling to Monteverde by bus from elsewhere in CR. During COVID I have never in my life seen a bus schedule change so frequently and the times are truly bizarre. On my way out of Monteverde I had to get the 04:20am bus. This seems to change by the week however so CHECK THE FACEBOOK PAGE! Also, when I visited there is no SJO - Monteverde bus so I had to go via Puntarenas to get there.…
Perfect location in the center of monteverde, walking distance to restaurantes, shops, bars and supermarkets. And 5 minutes from the national park. Rony was the best host ever!! He was soooo amazing and took care of every thing we needed. The room was sparkly clean and the bed was very confortable the best so far! He cooks breakfast in the morning amazing eggs, coffe and fruit! We really recomend staying here, for price /quality just stay here :)
Ronnie is the best host ever! Kind and helpfull in everything you might need: transportation tour places to eat and things to do. Any problems or tips he advises with a smile. Room was great and comfortable and very clean. Best experience in costa rica in acomodation!
This hostel was amazing! The owner/reception (Roni?) knew everything you could ever want to do in Monteverde and who to contact in order to get you the best deal. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great considering it was free (fruit, eggs and toast, plus coffee or tea). They give you a map which has everything on it and all the tours and prices, plus directions. Honestly just a great place.
Room and bathroom very clean (we've also had a fridge in the room), breakfast was really good and the serving was quite big and the staff was always friendly and helpful. I would always recommend staying there.
The hostel is located right in the center of Monteverde which was perfect for getting around. Ronny and his family made you feel welcomed right away and always offered help with planning of trips or bookings of any sort. I would highly recommend a stay at Sleepers!
The family that owns this hostel is amazing. Fantastic breakfasts, a dope atmosphere where I met some really chill people, and amazing opportunities to take tours around Monteverde for good prices. Pura vida!
