Axel at the front desk was incredible. He helped us arrange a local coffee and chocolate tour, a ziplining tour, gave great advice on what we needed to see while we were in town, and helped accommodate a late check-in.

The location is also great, just far enough away from downtown to avoid the downtown traffic, but still very walkable to Monteverde.

However, my wife and I both felt the pictures are deceptive. We knew it was the budget room so we weren't expecting all of the bells and whistles, but we also expected at least one of the photos on their website or Tripadviser to show what OUR room would look like. We had no bath, no nice swings, no comfortable chairs, no view, and no outdoor balcony. It was just a bedroom connected to the kitchen, (both acceptable, but nothing noteworthy) and a bathroom. We were wow'd by the pictures when booking this place, and were disappointed by what our money bought us, and we felt the pictures were dishonest.

I have to add my voice to the chorus of 5-star reviews for the Rainbow Valley Lodge. The location is just perfect - short drive to Monteverde, CuriCancha Wildlife Refuge and the Santa Elena reserve, and a short, pleasant walk into town. The accommodations aren't luxury but they are clean and have amazing views of the valley.

When you book your room, Christian will send you an email saying not to worry about what to do there because he can give you options once you arrive. That was true for us, and we had no problem filling three days with fantastic guided walks through the jungles where we saw too many birds, animals and plants to go into here, but suffice it to say that it was overwhelmingly beautiful.

And speaking of guided walks, make sure to book at least one tour with Roy (Christian's brother, but a serious student and unbelievably enthusiastic observer of local flora and fauna who has been guiding in the jungle for decades). We spent 5 hours with him at Curi Cancha and at the end asked him to pick us up the next day because we could not imagine a better wildlife guide exists in that area. He did, and at the end of our second tour we were driving back when Roy got a call from a friend of a rare Bell Bird sighting. We were off to the races where we tried (successfully) to see a rare and amazing new bird at the end of our trip. He is a very special guy and I highly recommend that if you want a tour of the wildlife that you try to arrange one with Roy. I don't know the guy personally; I'm just being honest.

But yeah, if we ever go back to that area, we'll be back at Rainbow Valley Lodge.

What a wonderful place in the mountains. It is close to both cloud forests.
Christian is super knowledgeable and runs a great lodge. All the staff were friendly, as were the 2 dogs that live there!
The room itself was nicely done and the views are impressive. It's a short walk to the center of town and if you need any assistance or suggestions you can just ask in at the office and they will help.
I would definitely recommend this location.

The rooms are good for the price. You really need to take their warning seriously and bring earplugs for the wind. We failed to do so and did not sleep at all the first night. Our shower also did not have any hot water the first morning, but it was fixed quickly after we alerted them. The staff are very nice and the view of the forest is nice. I think I read a review that parking was difficult but we did not think so - they have a generous lot in the front and a nice paved drive down to the rooms with ample parking. The internet in the room was good.

I stayed for 5 nights at Rainbow Valley Lodge and enjoyed every bit of it. My room was a few flight of stairs down and the views from the room were simply stunning. The room was very comfortable with all the amenities I can think of. Christian (owner of the lodge) is very helpful, responsive to all questions and attends to every minute detail. I had a few issues with hot water in the shower and Christian got back to me within 5 minutes and promptly fixed the issue. Christian also helped me in arranging all the tours in the area incl canopy ziplining, night tour in the forest, etc. And one can really see amazing rainbows from this place as seen in the attached pics. Can't wait to visit this place again!

This was a very unique, breathtaking view from our room. The rooms are literally built into the side of a mountain offering the most exquisite exciting views. Christian is a lovely host. We especially enjoyed the couple of dogs that are running around the property. They even came and hang out with us in our room. Breakfast is not provided so I would recommend swinging by the supermarket and getting a few staples to have. We would highly recommend this property.

This was a wonderful accommodation to stay at in Monteverde. The apartment was very spacious, with all the amenities you needed. It featured a beautiful design, with large windows that overlooked the valley beyond. You could just sit outside on the porch and relax, enjoying the vista as various birds flittered past you (and if the weather was less then favourable you could admire the same view from the inside). There is a small supermarket right across the road which was convenient. One tip is to bring earplugs as on windy days you may find it difficult to fall sleep.

The rooms are very clean with a small refrigerator, gas stove top and microwave. Ana Laura and Christian in reception are very helpful and will set up everything you want to do. Views from the rooms are lovely. Be prepared for high winds, rain, chilly temps as well as sun. You can walk into town ( but be careful, no sidewalks on much of the walk), where there are some very good restaurants and coffee shops. This is a great place if you want to be busy every day and use the room as a place to sleep.

We were here our second week in Costa Rica and wanted some down time just to take it easy, read, relax. The rooms have no chairs ( we brought ours in from the veranda), no dresser for clothes, and no TV. This lodge does not claim to be a luxury hotel and it is not, but it is very nice it you just need a place to put your stuff and sleep. Just think about what you need before booking.

An amazing experience from the moment we arrived till we left.
We were greeted by a double rainbow and clouds moving in front of us.
And of course the host!!! Christian!!! He has been a guide for around 9 years, and knows the entire area exceptionally well. Tell him what you are interested in doing and he will come up with the best plan for you! We loved the itinerary he planned for us. And he also gave us coupons for restaurants around the area.
The room was just perfect! Clean, spacious and with views of the Children's eternal rainforest and the ocean!
Across the street there is a store with everything you need as far as food supplies goes and more. We got stuff for our breakfast from there.
The town is a very short drive.
The road is paved all the way to the lodge, very easily accessible. Apparently this was not the case a short while ago.
I wish we had more time to stay there.

I booked this place for its beautiful view and it didn't disappoint me. The room was huge and kitchen was well equipped. I was a bit worried beforehand that i need to prepare my own breakfast because this lodge doesn't offer meal. But then i found myself quite enjoyed making my own meals in my room. Quietly had my breakfast, toast with jamón and cheese, and fresh brewed coffee, while overlooking the beautiful landscape outside the window. It was very quiet and peaceful! The reception was very helpful too. They provided detailed information about the lodge and room right after i booked the room, which was very nice. And once i arrived, they helped me arrange guided trekking in the park, night tour and coffee tour which i enjoyed a lot. The lodge is 20 mins walk from the town center which i saw a good exercise for me (but it's not a problem if you rent a car). There is a very nice seafood restaurant called Marisqueria y restaurant Manolo's which is just 10mins walk from the lodge. it offered very good food with reasonable price.

Hello Sleepy832! The accomodation is simple without AC, but very spacious and comfortable. The cool air at this elevation was plenty cool to not need an AC, but if you cant live without, then stay somewhere else. I was there in mid-August.
