I knew the had just finished a months long renovation and was looking forward to it.. The renovation isn’t complete. Construction is ongoing. Furniture is missing. I pad a 5 star price for this hotel. I felt taken advantage of by the hotel.
We stayed 3 nights at the hotel. It is in transition from a rustic ecolodge to high end hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The setting and views are amazing with lots of wildlife and birds. The restaurant is good. We ate there twice and in town a few times. The breakfasts were a par above your usual. Only thing I would change are the wine prices- $20 a glass and $80 a bottle are too high. The new rooms and bathrooms are large and beautifully constructed. The amenities, lines and furniture were first rate however they are not completely furnished. Trails need some maintenance and really too far to walk to town. We would stay again. We would stay again once it is done.
Tough place to review as there were some outstanding things - the staff are exceptional (special call our to Deevie, Gabriel and the wonderful receptonist from near Fortuna, forgot her name!) - and some real challenges. Firstly, the location is excellent, high up in the hills, higher than much of Santa Elena giving you the full cloud forest experience. I sat one day under a clear blue warm sky, with mist colling me off. Very bizarre. The main lodge has an outstanding view from a terrace where you can sit and have a drink (but more on that below) or your meals. For evenings when it cools down - and it does cool down - they have a wonderful fireplace - huge- to sit and have a drink (again, more on that below). Really nicely done and comfortable. The challenges, though, are the rooms and the food and drink. The rooms are very spacious and all have a patio (but no view), yet they are poorly appointed. A bed and two chairs by the wall, and so much empty space which could be filled with very comfortable furniture. The walls are devoid of art or anything to warm up the room. Similarly, the bathroom is very large, yet they have not taken advantage to include a bathtub which would be a welcome addition after a wet rainforest hike, especially when there is no pool or spa on the location. The biggest challenge to me was the food and drink, especially the latter. The food for breakfast was filling, but not anything special. It seems to have been dumbed down so as not to offend any travellers who might not like any spice. We fould it quite bland. But it certainaly was sufficient. The dinner and especially the wine were more disappointing. The dinners were not bad, but for the price (at least USD$30 per main) they should be much, much better. The end-all, and it would stop me from coming back or going to their other resorts they have five), were the wine prices. The lowest cost glass of wine was USD$20 and a bottle between USD$75 and $175. I saw an inexpensive Pinot Noir that we often buy at home for $25 was a whopping $175 per bottle. For us, we like to enjoy a bottle of wine at dinner, and in the evening a glass on the patio or around the fire. Not at those prices. Those prices are obscene. They are three times what they should be. It was not surprising that the restaurant was not full, and we never say anyone sitting around in the lodge in the evenings having a drink. They created an absolutely beautiful area to relax and talk to other guests, and then set prices which scare everyone away. If you don't drink and this is not an issue for you, then yes I would recommend this lodge. Again, I cannot express how wonderful we found the staff. But if you are looking to spend the day out being active, and then relax over a glass of wine at the end of the day, go somewhere else.…
Our family stayed for 3 nights at the recently refurbished Cloud Forest Lodge in late December 2022. We had three generations together and everyone loved the experience! The location was beautiful, set within the cloud forest with stunning panoramic views from the restaurant. A great place to watch the sunset over the forest. We ate a number of meals at the new restaurant (Endemica) and the food was excellent! The ingredients were fresh and the menu offered a wide variety of choices (including many vegetarian options). The staff was very kind (our waiter Davey was amazing) and we felt very special our entire stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There are trails on the property that take you right into the cloud forest and there is a zipline tour operator adjacent to the hotel! A really fun place to stay while in Costa Rica. We hope to have the opportunity to return one day!…
This place is under new ownership and are not honoring their group rates that we had reserved for a large group. Their prices more than tripled! Now we're scrambling to find new hotels for our group. The place is very unprofessional. Avoid!
We stayed two nights for about $90 a person per night. Rooms were clean, shower had hot water. Meals and park entrance fees were included. Not a lot to do after park hours, but it was a short drive to town if you want to explore or there were board games upstairs to enjoy. It was a wonderful way to get away from the world for a bit!
Our experience was great the people of reception are very respectful and friendly the same with the works on the restaurant. Our room was nice, clean and big bed very comfortable. Lots of wild life around that place love the eco-friendly concern. Keep doing that
Only here 1 night and had very little time on the property. The food we ate here was very good and the kitchen was extremely accommodating. Room was basic, no heat or air, open windows so has a bit of damp feeling. There can be quite a bit of noise from the forest. The shower was great. Kind of feels like you are at a summer camp! Every staff member we dealt with was excellent. Lots of trails on the property. Wish we had done our night walk with them.
A nice lodge which is set in a great location. The rooms are good and the breakfast is decent. There are walking trails from the lodge which can be attempted by most. The happy hour should be extended further.
The service was great, the people were kind. We loved spending the evening in the bar having a drink. Thewe reception helps you book trips and get transportation as well. It gets cold during the night, but you can ask for heaters or extra blankets. Great experience overall!
