Our hotel located in Monteverde Costa Rica is an ecolodge. The Cloud Forest Lodge offers the perfect combination between isolating yourself in nature and staying close to all Monteverde´s facilities. We are located within the Bellbird Biological Corridor, two kilometers from the main town – literally in the middle between the Monteverde Reserve and the Santa Elena Reserve. We preserve our biodiversity with dedication since we believe that people deserve to enjoy the nature that surrounds us. We are invested in maintaining the essence of Monteverde over time. COVID NOTE. Due to the current situation, we had to vary the operation of the restaurant according to the occupation. In the same way, we continue our effort to meet the needs of each visitor and context. We appreciate that you let us know any preferences in advance so that we can serve you in the best way possible.

This was our favourite hotel of the 6 we stayed in during our 18 day trip to Costa Rica; this is what an Eco Lodge should be. It is positioned high in the cloud forest with superb views from the terrace/restaurant area. There was a log fire which was lit in the evenings when it got cooler due to altitude. The welcome on arrival was great with a fruit cocktail and a lovely member of staff advising of all the useful information regarding the hotel and walks around the grounds. After arrival we walked the short 2km trail around the grounds which allowed us to spot some wildlife. We stayed in a standard king sized room. The room and bathroom were huge with high quality organic toiletries provided in multi use bottles. The room had minimal furniture but had a beautiful feel to it with bedside tables, 2 armchairs and desk and chair. There was storage in the lobby to the room with an area to remove shoes if they were muddy. There was a huge covered veranda with 2 comfy arm chairs. In the morning we often saw wildlife wandering by in front of the veranda. The food was superb - all made from scratch including sourdough bread and greek yogurt. The morning we had a very early start we pre-ordered breakfast the night before so it was ready for start of service at 7am. We ate one night in the Endemica restaurant on site. Although the food was expensive it was superb; fine dining in a casual setting. The bar made superb lemonade and mint cordials which were served like cocktails and very refreshing after a day wildlife spotting. Sitting on the terrace it was easy to see many birds attracted by the bird feeders

The ecolodge is, as name stipulates, located high up in the forest. The access, from the town of Santa Elena, is via very steep road, graveled towards the end. Welcoming juice drink was a nice touch. There are forest walks around the lodge as well as a zipwire experience. If you are taking the longer, canopy trail make sure to wear sturdy shoes as the ground is very uneven. The reception has a range of ponchos and walking sticks that you can borrow for walks. Accommodation is in spacious chalets scattered around the centre ground of the facility. Our Euphonia Deluxe Suite was huge but sparsely furnished. We had large twin beds with comfortable mattresses, a couple of armchairs and a table. The wardrobe was located in the hallway. There was a terrace overlooking the centre of the lodge grounds, but cold or inclement weather limits its use somewhat. There were no tea/coffee-making facilities nor TV. WiFi signal was good. The bathroom was equally vast, with walk-in shower in one corner and His & Hers sinks opposite. Bathrobes were provided. We dined one night at the Endémica Restaurant. The menu was limited and quality quite average with a small choice of wines. The crackling wood burner in the middle created a homely atmosphere. The following day we ate at the Orchid Restaurant in town and the fare was very acceptable there. Breakfast was served in the dining room, with nice views over the forest. We were encouraged to pre-order our dishes as, apparently, preparation was quite lengthy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, an interesting though very expensive experience for the limited services offered.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at our lodge and dining experience at our Endémica Restaurant. We appreciate your detailed review. Our team takes great pride in providing guests with opportunities to explore and connect with the natural beauty of the surrounding area through the trails of our own private reserve. Climate can be cold, misty or rainy depending on the season, so it is important to pack accordingly. About the road conditions, we would like to clarify that it is paved until the entrance to our property. Within our property, which is a private reserve, it is a gravel road. Regarding your comments about the furnishings, we will take it into consideration as we strive to continually improve our guest experience. We do want to state that we don’t have TVs in any of our rooms since at Cloud Forest Lodge and our sister properties, we want guests to experience connecting with nature. Regarding coffee makers in our rooms, we have recently added them, due to the feedback from our guests. Our website has a description of what our rooms include. We're sorry to hear that you found the menu options at Endémica Restaurant to be limited and the quality average. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will review our offerings to ensure that we are meeting the expectations of our guests. Despite the shortcomings you experienced, we're pleased to hear that our staff were friendly and helpful throughout your stay. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to the cloud forest of Monteverde.

This hotel is a gem, tucked on a hillside with wonderful views towards the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable and huge bathrooms with walk in shower and double sink. There is a large balcony with comfy chairs, a safe and clothes hanging space. The rooms are joined in a terrace with covered walkway at the back which is handy as it does rain in the cloud forest. The restaurant building is a delight, wooden walls, a beautiful log fire area to relax in the evenings and a glass fronted balcony above for sunny days, again with wonderful views and a firepit. The staff were so friendly and attentive. We stayed in 6 hotels on this trip and this one was my favourite. The hotel was recently taken over by the Bueno group who have plans to add a pool.

We ate at the restaurant and was it a treat! Impeccable, heartfelt and friendly service, a gorgeous forest and sunset view, delicious and well served food. Chef Luis has put together a menu for everyone and we were surprised and delighted to see how well marked the menu items were for gluten free dishes, etc. Ages in our group ranged from 17 to 80+ and everyone loved their meals. An unforgettable, special evening to celebrate a granddaughter’s 20th birthday. . We will return.

This is a beautiful hotel and I love that they have a focus on conservation. We had an incredible cabin (#25!) which included a king bed and 3 twin beds for each of our children. The room was immaculate and we had a very large outdoor covered porch. The view was of the jungle, it would have been nice to have more of a view, but we were busy with other activities and the serenity of the terrace was lovely in our downtime. If I had any specific feedback it would be that a mini fridge would be a nice convenience and with the size of the bathroom (it was enormous!) it would have been nice to have the toilet enclosed so more than one person could use the bathroom at the same time. Shout out to the front desk staff who were incredible. So friendly, welcoming and efficient. They had great insight on restaurants and having a line to them via WhatsApp when we were in town was a plus. These guys clearly wanted to help make our stay the best it could be. Breakfast was included in our stay and I’m still thinking about the French toast which was delicious but everything we ate was fantastic (we tried it all -pancakes, French toast, breakfast burrito, omelette, breakfast sandwich). The kids had hot chocolate every morning and it was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. The bird feeders were a nice addition - we ate breakfast amid hummingbirds and so many other birds I could not keep track. We ate dinner there one night and it was also delicious. Wine seemed a bit expensive. Service was great, Wilmar was a friendly face there both at breakfast and dinner. The hotel is down a steep and winding dirt road, walking to town would not be advisable and it would be the one con to the hotel (depending on your priorities - trade off for a very quiet environment set in the forest). If I returned I would consider trying the sister hotel Monteverde Lodge which I think would be walkable to Santa Elena. Beds and pillows were so comfortable, almost like being at home in my own bed. We didn’t do the zip lining canopy tour on the property but it looked like a good spot to try it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay at our lodge and appreciated our focus on conservation. It is a key pillar we share at our sister properties, all part of Böëna Wilderness Lodges. We're thrilled that you found your room ideal. Your feedback about the view and bathroom layout is duly noted, and we appreciate your suggestions for improvement. It's fantastic to hear that our front desk staff provided exceptional service and made your stay memorable. Our staff is a key component of what makes a Costa Rica experience unforgettable! We're are also thrilled that you and your family enjoyed our culinary experience at our Endémica Restaurant. The views and bird watching are an added plus! Regarding the road leading to our lodge, we understand that it may pose some challenges for those seeking to walk to town. However, we're glad you found the trade-off for a quiet environment set in the forest to be worthwhile. We're delighted to hear that you found our beds and pillows to be comfortable, and we're sorry to hear that you didn't have the opportunity to try our zip lining canopy tour. Perhaps it's something to consider for your next visit! Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back to our lodge or our sister property, Monteverde Lodge, in the future.

Spent 2 nights here on our Costa Rica trip. Lovely spacious room with private patio, Lovely setting with great views from the dining area. Excellent food and interesting to watch the chefs at work in the kitchen. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Loved the ethos of this hotel. Trails in ground. Be aware the longest one is quite steep in places and lots of tree roots to trip on!

A beautiful hotel, newly refurbished under new ownership. Honestly the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. Floor to ceiling windows in the Euphonia Suite where we stayed (room 12). A lot of empty space in the room in bathroom, they said they are still working on additions to these rooms, including hot tubs. The restaurant was amazing, you can see the absolute pride they take in serving you. We booked the El Tigre Waterfall tour through the hotel and it was one of my favorite excursions in Costa Rica. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting Monteverde!

Thoroughly recommend this hotel. The location in the middle of the cloud forest means you are surrounded by wildlife. Expect to see toucans, lessons motmots and other local bird life fly on while you eat in the restaurant. Of course, there are always the humming birds too! For the more adventurous there are several zip wires over the valley in the hotel grounds. There are marked paths in the grounds giving more opportunity to explore the cloud forest. The rooms are warm, spacious and stylish with simple decor and balconies or verandas giving another chance to watch wildlife. Grounds nearest the hotel are well kept. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant is top quality with menus that cater for all tastes including a separate plant based menu for vegans and vegetarians. Staff were very good about catering for allergies. In the evening, there is a sitting area with comfortable chairs and a large log fire to sit around with wine, other drinks, hot chocolate etc while you relax at the end of the day. It is a short drive from here to various excellent excursions including other forests, wildlife sanctuaries, coffee plantations etc.

The staff were lovely and friendly and we were greeted with a welcome drink. The rooms themselves are simply but elegantly furnished and they are regularly cleaned by attentive chambermaids. We did miss the addition of tea and coffee making facilities in the room as both my wife and I like to awake to a cuppa first thing in the morning. The Endemica restaurant where the breakfast is served is a beautiful and tranquil setting with outstanding views from the balcony and upstairs viewing deck. There is a wood burner both in the restaurant and on the decking adding to the atmosphere and ambience. The breakfasts were varied and satisfying, though I would have prepared a buffet style for the fruit as we were always served papaya and satsuma which I have found disappointing in Costa Rica on the whole. The nature trails surrounding the hotel are outstanding and we were able to view a host of birds including humming birds feeding at the many stations around the restaurant. We paid astronomic amounts of money to go to the hanging bridges in Selvatura Park and saw no wildlife at all. But the highlight of our stay at the Cloudforest Lodge were following a troop of white faced monkeys along the Pizote trail as they grazed on the fauna. Later my daughter and I were able to follow a group of Coate for 40 minutes as they snuffled for food between the Pizote and Abocado trails. Both of these were achieved free of charge.
