Good price. Everything worked. Hot water. Wifi. No tv. No ac. Staff was bilingual, friendly, and informative. The free breakfast was local fare with a good portion. Great location. Right next to Orchid Farm. Easy to find.
From the very start, the staff--especially Ryan (female) and Michael--were welcoming and went the extra mile. Everything was wonderful and clean, nice grounds, cute extra touches like the handmade orchid lamp in the room. Ryan spent at least a half hour with me going over a map and pointing out places I wanted to go, offering food and tour recommendations, arranging tours and pickups for us. The laundry service was also excellent and money well spent. I loved this place, its people, and the whole vibe. Highly recommend. That said, don't expect a fancy mattress or luxury--if you have a bad back, this might not be the place for you. But you can enjoy the community kitchen and all the free coffee you want, and everything else in town within easy walking distance. Oh, don't expect…
This place is very relaxing and the location is perfect for visiting both Santa Elena Cloud Forest and Monteverde Cloud Forest. Our room was small but we only slept there. It's more of a hostel than a hotel so you don't get toiletries (only one small soap) but we were fine with this as I travel with my own anyway. Very nice breakfast tacos. You get a 10% discount at Taco Taco but we actually didn't like that place that much, service was slow, food arrived cold and it was tasteless. The only thing I would change is offering real milk for coffees instead of the creamer (powder). Price is very good too. We would come back for sure.
This was our third time staying here. The rooms are clean and the shower great. The beds are comfortable and we sleep well there. Rebecca, the front desk staff, was excellent. We really love the breakfast too! 5 stars all around.
Great Staff, shop and social area! Rooms well maintained and affordable! Walking access to everything in town. Great location for amazing adventures on trails, zip lining thru, hanging bridges thru and above above the rainforest canopy and a great open gondola above it all to the continental divide (Carib and Pacific)!! Butterfly aviary, animal refuge and sooo much more.
I had never stayed in a hostel before, and this was a great first experience! We booked a 2 queen bed with private bathroom. The rooms are rustic and dated but clean. There was no thermostat in the room but they did provide an extra blanket for when the temperature dropped. Our room faced a beautiful courtyard area that I loved. I also loved the community living feeling. In the mornings I would walk the back way into the main part of the hostel that felt like a whimsical and eclectic cottage. It included a dining/family room area with reception and a community kitchen. The coffee was always fresh and the free breakfast was delicious and filling. Just a quick note- parking is limited so I would recommend calling ahead to see if you can reserve a spot. We were lucky enough to get…
Pension Santa Elena is a wonderful, clean hostel with a cozy atmosphere. The staff is very easy going, enormously helpful, and very. they organized all trips for us. the breakfast is very delicious and you can decide from three different options. it is right in the center.
We had a private room with a full bed and twin-sized bed. We LOVED the breakfast (definitely try the breakfast tacos!). The service was great, and the staff was more than happy to help plan activities. Had a cute store with local jewelry and art. We headed over to La Fortuna for a night and they were kind enough to hold our luggage.
It’s my second time around at Pension Santa Elena This time with my brother and his wife. I’ve been anxious to show my brother and his wife the Pura Vida life of Costa Rica and what better place to do that than Pension Santa Elena :) Not only the rustic rooms but also the very warm, open and always helpfully smiling staff is what Pura Vida is to me, but also sitting in front of Pension Santa Elena and watching the morning unfold, drinking coffee and eating the complementary breakfast. I can highly recommend staying at Pension Santa Elena I love the place
This was probably my favorite hostel during our trip in Costa Rica. I loved the little courtyard in the back and the staff was SUPER friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a good change from the standard hostel breakfast in Costa Rica with three options! I would stay again.
