For some room options there is only a communal shower and toilet. One each for a bunch of rooms (unsure of how many). This wasn’t an issue because I visited out of season, but I think it could have been an issue in peak...More
We only had one night in Santa Elena, but really liked this hostel. The staff recommended a guided night hike that we really enjoyed, and the accommodations were comfortable. About a 10 minute drive from Monteverde Cloud Forest, and no more than a 5 minute...More
Positives: Fantastically helpful staff. Booked all my tours through them. Comfy bed and great hot shower. Cool decor and furnishings. Pretty good wifi throughout.

As the other respondent said, the shuttle is not free, but I can't really imagine it would be as Santa Elena is way up in the mountains. A resort close to the airport could have a free shuttle theoretically, but I never saw any free shuttles really. There are plenty of transportation options for tours and activities. Sometimes the place that you get the tour will send transport or the kind folks at the pension can help arrange things for you.
