My small family of 3 truly enjoyed this hostel. We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The room was small, but felt very comfortable with a double bed and then another double bed lofted above the other, not quite a bunk bed,...More
Really happening hostel (but quiet enough after 10pm) with lots of fantastic & friendly information. We took a guided tour of the Curi-cancha reserve with Ronald & saw quetzals & a toucan. Amazing. The night tour was also really good (although slightly bigger groups of...More
We loved our stay at the Pension Santa Elena! Our room was comfortable, clean, and quiet, and the rock shower was a lovely touch! The front desk might actually be the best front desk in Costa Rica, as they claim, and they went out of...More
I couldn't recommend this place more. Every single staff member was really friendly and helpful, with information on tours, buses and tips for the rest of our time in Costa Rica. Our room was great - really comfortable bed and a fantastic shower. There was...More
Very welcoming and helpful staff. Before we even paid for our stay they had lined up a canopy tour for us-they did all the calling/arranging. Room with a loft was nice for teenagers to escape into for when they needed privacy. Breakfast provided, friendly cats;...More

As the other respondent said, the shuttle is not free, but I can't really imagine it would be as Santa Elena is way up in the mountains. A resort close to the airport could have a free shuttle theoretically, but I never saw any free shuttles really. There are plenty of transportation options for tours and activities. Sometimes the place that you get the tour will send transport or the kind folks at the pension can help arrange things for you.
