The rooms were large but spartan and a bit tired-looking. There was a tv with about 60+ channels, it seemed like 15 were children’s cartoons, and 2 in English (CNN). It was rainy and chilly, and there were extra heavy blankets in the closet. A large fridge with freezer compartment, no room safe or AC. Each room had a balcony where you could look into the cloud forest. If you are in one of the outside buildings, the walkways are steep but lighted at night. We all had wifi in the rooms with no problem. The shower had a lot of pressure and you could control the spray types. No pool, but you could walk around the gardens. There were a lot of leave-cutter ants around the property and it was interesting watching them go back and forth – I had never seen anything like that before. They have a coop of chickens that probably supplies the eggs. Dinner was a fixed menu, soups, salads, and main choices. Breakfast was a buffet with eggs, rice, beans, bacon, hash browns, orange juice, and coffee. Filling but nothing exciting.…
Clean spacious rooms, ample wifi, excellent bathrooms with hot water and big showers. The views from the balcony are unreal. Breakfast buffet was delicious. Well located close to amenities in Monteverde.
We stayed at the hotel for over a week in January 2022. The staff are all incredibly friendly and happy to help and accommodate. They are able to book tours in the area and arrange transportation to nature reserves near by. The rooms are huge clean and basic and have a balcony and a stunning views of the Nicoya Peninsula. The hotel is clean and keeps all Covid 19 cleaning and masking protocols. Breakfast was lovely and you have the choice of local typical breakfast or American breakfast. The restaurant is currently closed for lunch but offers a nice selection of dishes for dinner. Wifi is good but is only available in the lobby and the restaurant. Sunsets were picture perfect everyday and you should not miss it! The hotel has a few short forest trails as part of its grounds and we saw a few Tayras and some cool birds walking the trails. Just before sunset there is a musical choir of birds by the dinning hall that will blow you away. 100s of birds converge on the trees and bamboo and settle for the night sleep. The hotel is 3 minutes away (walking) from a cafe, 3 restaurants and a mini supermarket. 20 minutes away (walking) from a lovely up-scale Italian restaurant ( Tramonti) and a fabulous cafe/restaurant (Stela). The hotel is also 20-30 walking distance from Curi Cancha Reserve and the Children Eternal Rain Forest Reserve. Both are GREAT to explore on your own with well marked trails. The hotel is 25 minutes walking distance (downhill) to the city of Santa-Elena where there are lots of tourist shops and restaurants. There are taxis to take back to the hotel if you wish as it is a steep climb up. We din't have a car and didn't feel like we needed one.…
Wow! We walked into the lobby and immediately booked another night before we even got to our room. The location was absolute perfection and the views were breathtaking! Everything was perfect. Sylvia was so lovely and welcoming at check-in, Richi made the best drinks in Costa Rica (and gave great recommendations on what to do), and Eunice (Nichi) was/is the sweetest and nicest girl in the world. The rooms are rustic, but they were spacious, comfortable and they were sooooo clean! We brought our dog with us and there was a nice open grassy area where we were able to play frisbee with her. That was her favorite hotel in all of Costa Rica as well! We were sad to leave such a magical place!
Great room, large, clean and comfortable. The TV and internet worked. The shower was the best of the trip, powerful with a great volume. The staff were friendly and helpful: Extra pillows; a fan; early breakfast; boxed breakfast. The restaurant was closed because there were so few guests. But there were many options in just a short walk. We particularly enjoyed Thomas and Thiago for dinner. It is a long walk down to the town, and a hard walk back up to the hotel. The birding on the grounds down to the pond is excellent, and the birding along the road towards Monteverde Park is very good too. The hotel is a little dated and doesn’t look beautiful, but we had a great stay.
Good location to lots of hiking, town, attractions. Room had one double bed, one twin. TV didn't work. They did switch out, but new remote did not have numbers. All but two channels in Spanish anyway, but wanted to see weather and news. Wi fi negligent. Did not have view. With travel group so location assigned. Barn doors. Leave light on, very dark at end of building. Had to walk across grass so shoes muddy and no mat. Asked for no service but got it anyway. Except no fresh towels. Very gross moldy shower curtain and clothesline (short, above toilet). Food ok. Fridge. Nice view from main deck. Seems like not quite ready to return to business like most places we have stayed.
Just came back from a wonderful stay at the Hotel Montana! We were greeted with great service at reception - including a free upgrade!! The room was spacious and the entire hotel was very clean. It had an amazing view of the mountains of the cloud forest and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast on the verandah was delicious and truly a breath-taking experience. It is walking distance to town with restaurants but I would recommend a taxi/bus to the Cloud Forest Park. Can't wait to go back and would highly recommend!
Hotel is located within walking distance of many attractions. Hotel breakfast and lunch were good. Room with shower was good and beds were comfortable. There are trails on the property for hiking and birding. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Beautiful view all the way to the sea. We had a room above the kitchen so we knew when meals were being prepared. No safe in the room, no a/c or fan. Staff was very pleasant and helpful and the room was clean. The breakfast was very basic. The seafood pasta, seafood soup and the pizza was very good.
My sister and I stayed at this lovely hotel for a few days in February. Sylvia at the front desk was wonderful and gave us many ideas for places to find art and vegetarian food, taking the time to draw us a special map! The staff in the dining room and lounge were always smiling and made us feel so welcome, plus the food was amazing, something we didn't expect from the modest appearance of the dining room. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck with our afternoon lemonade & mint, which you must try!, and watching the beautiful hummingbirds dart back and forth between the feeders there. Tico, the resident dog, was delightful and gave me my needed "dog fix". To top it off, after we left the staff found a cap that I had left there that has sentimental value to me, and the hotel sent it back to me at my Seattle address without letting me reimburse them. Such hospitality! Hotel Montana Monteverde will definitely be a go to for me when I return to Costa Rica!…
