We red a lot of positive reviews of this place, but our experience was horrible. To start, after check-out we discovered bedbug bites. We stayed here for several nights so it’s definitely from this hostel. I send an email to inform the hostel so future backpackers wouldn’t end up in the same situation. The hostel never replied…. Secondly, breakfast is not worth the money and if you want to make your own breakfast, kitchen only opens at 9am. The kitchen is poorly equipped and closes early (according the rules 9pm but they frequently close earlier). You can't even take plastic cups outside. Thirdly, the whole hostel in covered in leaflets with rules. For example if you don't clean your dishes, wifi will be shut down. Or if you don't dry your dishes a $10 fine will be given. And finally, the staff was very rude to us. When closing the kitchen at 20:45, we asked if we could finish our drinks and they replied: 'no, reglas son reglas'. But it wasn't even 9pm. Don't stay here!

I am a solo traveller and my purpose was to visit the parks and enjoy the nature. The staff was really rude. I could not find my mask and instead of offering a private space where I could search my luggage, he told me to open my bag on the floor in front of him. I insisted to be private and they opened the room but refused to give me the key even if I had already paid. He said I was not following the rule for check in and would not give the key until I heard all the instructions for breakfast, making no sense as breakfast is at 7 and I was leaving for 6.30. He almost kicked me out. I spent a horrrible night. The beds are uncomfortable and the door of the room did not close properly. I was scared of the staff.

The room was clean, tidy, and there was hot water in the shower. It was good. However I has the feeling that the staff was very strict. We can't have access to the kitchen before 9 a.m and after 8 p.m. Even the owner saw me asking for him to open the kitchen before 9a.m to take my things, he didn't want to open the door. Moreover, the "free breakfast" is free only if you pay 15$ a night. If you want to do not expensive activities, you shouldn't ask to the staff.

Really rude staff. Went to get laundry done, they dyed all my clothes pink and when we complained refused to give us our money back or call their boss. It was the most expensive laundry service I’ve had in all of Costa Rica as well. Don’t go here.

So, We came to this hostel to request laundry services and not ONLY do they not know how to clean clothes, but they are also the RUDEST staff I have ever had the displeasure of conversing with. They died all our white clothes PINK and left NEW stains all over other clothes. The only response they had to our complaints were “you never told us to separate the whites from reds” CAN YOU IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE When instead of giving our money back (which cost more than normal laundry services I might add) when we asked them to call their boss they threatened to call the police !! I am appalled beyond words by this service. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to have to deal with the Costa Rican authorities for probably complaining about a blocked loo :(

Mauricius was really polite and helpful. For the little money I payed, I got an okay room and most of all, really good service. Ask for all the tours and help you want, he knows! The hostel is localized in the middle of Santa Elena.

Great location. Really comfortable, clean and spacious rooms. Staff extremely helpful. Made sure we had tours or transfers organised before they left each day. Free very generous breakfast each morning. Kitchen available for use all day. Would highly recommend.

As a tour group staying in Monteverde we wanted to do some laundry. They advertise laundry services for $10 a pound. Doable. They tell us (and write on the receipt) to be back at either 8pm that night or 6am the next morning. Because we are leaving at 6:30 the next morning we arrive at 7:45 and wait for an hour. No one shows up. We knock on a few doors and try calling non stop and still nothing. They have our clothes. And we pre paid. We end up leaving because other guests tell us there has been no staff for a few hours. They closed hours early. So we come back at 6 in the morning, make our tour group wait until 7:15 and still nothing. We paid $50 for laundry and never got it. We came back to both of the two times they asked us. We were early and stayed late. Do not stay here or try and do laundry, they will scam you and you will end up without clothes. We are all livid.

My friend and I reserved this hostel for two nights. After a very long bus ride we arrived to Sloth backpackers, only to find out that the hostel is always overbooked & we would be sent to a different hostel. There goes our joy of saying we stayed at the Sloth. This town is very small, so there is not a lot to do in this town and everything closes at 9pm (I mean EVERYTHING, so make sure you plan accordingly).

This hostel is amazing. The owner (Yorle) of this hostel was so helpful when giving information about the town Fantastic breakfasts, very clean, central location, beautifull rooms with tv and mini refrigerator, The breakfast is really good and generous. The location is right in the middle of town and a 2 minute walk from the bus station. There is a common kitchen that is pretty and very clean. The grocery store is not too far away. Amazing opportunities to take tours around Monteverde for good prices. They help you with everything. Arrange your trips for the days and arrange the transport to the next place. They even called for us for the transport to the final destination! I really enjoyed my stay. The personal is a really kind
