We stayed in the 2 bedroom house that was detached from the main cattleya hostel. Basically the way it works is that you have a hostel featuring numerous private rooms on one street and then the next street over you have two x 2 bedroom houses that could be rented for larger groups of up to 4. We hired the later and have nothing but positive feedback. PROS - VALUE - Stupidly cheap. 30 USD a night for three people which is actually cheaper than 3 x dorm beds and afforded access to a fully self contained house with complete kitchen which allowed us to save even more. - SECURITY - Deadbolt on the doors and bars over all the windows. - LOCATION - Within walking distance to the main area of Santa Elena. Walking distance to bus station and supermarket. - GYM - located literally across the road it cost 3000 colon for a day pass. - CLEAN - ROOMS - The place had two seperate rooms both of which had comfortable beds. Air conditioning worked well. Quilts on the beds. Hot water worked well. A fully stocked kitchen with fridges allowed us to self cater to further save more money, - WIFI - Worked well and was quite fast. Fast enough to stream netflix without an issue as well as YouTube. - TV had netflix and YouTube and streamed without issue. - FRIENDLY STAFF - At the hostel we were able to book a few tours with the major companies in the region and arrange for pick up and drop off from these areas. CONS - Nil Overall a really lovely stay at a ridiculously low price.…
My room had a fantastic view; Johnathan and his family were great hosts. It was easy to book tours through them at a reasonable price. It is only a 10-minute walk to town if you wish to visit the restaurants/ bars, and there is a shop 5 mins away if you want to to pick up some snacks.
does not follow covid proticals. Hires illegal anti-vax immigrants. Dirty dishes and pots put away in cupboards by staff. Very noisy from gym behind playing music from 6am to 10 pm. Beside construction company that starts noise before 6 am. Customers always having to tell staff no toilet paper in washrooms. Kitchen washroom left uncleaned for up to 2 weeks at a time. Staff hides customer's belongings. Germain staff member unfriendly to none germain customers.
Lovely new room, beds and pillows so comfy (we booked a family room) Jonathan is so helpful and friendly. Very well equipped kitchen with spices making cooking a delight. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that the water in the (very large) shower was cold and it gets chilly at night in Monteverde so hot water would be great!
We got a privat room with comfortable beds! The room and the bathroom was very clean and convenient. We got new fresh towels when we needed them. But the best „thing“ about this hostel above all is the owner Jonathan. He is super kind, sincere and very helpful for all kinds of needs. He recommended us very nice activities and organised everything for us. It was a pleasure to stay in his hostel. Thanks Jon 👍🏼
We really appreciate how nice the Host Jonathan is, he helped us and guided us for tours and to move around Monteverde .He is a real great host ,when we come back to Monteverde we will deff stay here again, the prizes are very very good !and most important they also accepted our pet so over all we recommend it eyes closed !
I really recommend staying in the “Cattleya”!! I am traveling for 3 months, always looking for low budget hostels, and this one was by far the best one I stayed in. The rooms are pretty big compared to others hostels, you have a bathroom for every 3-4 rooms that is always clean, and they always have toilet paper and soap (which is something you can’t take for granted in cheap hostels apparently). Besides that, there’s a huge kitchen with 2 separate sinks and 2 stoves, well equipped with lots of pots, pans, a microwave, kettle, blender and even spices to cook with. And if that’s not enough, the guy who owns the place - Jonathan , is sooo nice, speaks perfect English, available around the clock, and can always help you with booking attractions, shuttles, and give you tips for the area, or for public transportation. Definitely the perfect place for travelers!…
Owner Jonathan makes you feel welcome and is friendly , premises clean, kitchen well stocked and clean, restaurants close by and convenience store , would recommend, you can join tours, was given recommendations
Love the place!!! The owner Jonathan gave us a ride late at night to pick up a wallet we forgot in the woods, very nice ,professional and always available to help, and the hotel is clean and at a fair price ,very recommended 😀😀😀
Catteyla Hostel is a wonderful place to stay, Johnathan the owner, who speaks perfect English is such a genuine, kind and helpful and honest man, nothing is too much trouble for him . He can arrange and book any tours or activities for you and is very knowledgeable on the area. Rooms are spacious and kept very clean with good hot showers. There is a well equipped kitchen where you can cook your own meals with plenty of space to sit, where the delicious and plentiful breakfast is served each morning. There are hammocks and seating areas outside too where you can relax. . The hostel is within easy walking distance from the small town with plenty of places to eat and supermarkets..Wifi is excellent and available in all areas. A well organised run hostel and Johnathan is the perfect host , well recommended fro your stay in Monteverde.…
