We loved the place. The rooms are gorgeous with fabulous views over the rolling hills all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Spotless and clean. Everything is forst class.
The Italian restaurant attached to the 5 rooms is attractive with excellent food. The owner, Jose, and his staff are warm and friendly. Highly recommend a stay there.

My wife and I had the opportunity and privileged of staying in this cozy, 5 cabins hotel while visiting Monteverde and were amazed by the beauty of the area with the amazing views, great accomodations and superb service. I have never experienced such a high level of hospitality in any other place by comparison. The owner Jose Badilla makes you feel more as a close friend visiting his house than a guest visiting a hotel and the attention to details from the service, to the food in the restaurant to the accomodations are unequaled. If you travel as a couple this is a perfect place to visit as you'll have a wonderful time with your better half and fall in love with all the beauties this place have to offer. The restaurant have amazing and genuine Italian Cuisine that brought memories of a small Italian Restaurant I visited in Germany with their food. I highly recommend Tropico Monteverde for couples, honeymooners and those wishing to pop the question to their soulmates, you will have the best memories of your lifetime and by the way, at a very affordable rate too.

Muchas Gracias Jose por hacernos sentir como en familia, Samuel y Omayra.

We’ve just had an excellent 3 night stay here, in a lovely large room with the most enormous and comfortable bed ever and an unbelievably beautiful view from the terrace and stunning sunsets. Breakfasts in the well appointed restaurant were very tasty, particularly the traditional Costa Rican gallo pinto and the homemade granola with yoghurt, not forgetting the yummy fruit platter. We didn’t have a car but it’s only a 5 minute taxi ride from Santa Elena or a 30 minute walk - a great location. Jose goes above and beyond with his customer service and made suggestions, arranged our trips, checked bus timetables for us and arranged our transfer to Manuel Antonio - he really deserves to do well and be supported. It’s true that in this area the wind, particularly at night, is very strong, so earplugs will help you sleep soundly and you won’t find a better place to stay in the area.

BEST VIEWS from every room in Monteverde. The wow factor of these private individual luxury cabins will blow you away. The view was absolutely the best in the area. Just walking into room 1, which we stayed for 3 days, you knew every detail was consider for beauty and comfort! Jose, the owner, was on hand to personally greet us and make all arrangements for personalized activities we wanted to participate in the area. He set up our visit to Selvatura Park, Juan Don's Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane tour and a visit to Curi Cancha Reserve, where he arrange for Olman, a private and knowledgeable guide, to the reserve. My one suggestion for a stay in Monteverde, DON'T MISS Curi Cancha, which was absolutely amazing. Olman pointed us to quetzals, motmots, emerald toucanettes and so much more.

All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We made sure every night we were there, at sunset, to watch the views as ithe sun descended over the mountains and the pacific ocean coastline. Sitting there, on our own deck, you'd see other visitors rushing in to enjoy a cocktail and watch from the main lodges deck.

I highly recommend Tropico Monteverde Hotel! Give Jose a call, you won't be disappointed.

My communication with Jose even before checking in was smooth and he was very accommodating with my booking. I stayed for 2 nights in cabin 1, the closest to the restaurant. Loved the size of the room, the vaulted ceiling and all the little touches. Bed was huge and bathroom had everything needed with a good shower. Impeccably clean and I appreciated the daily housekeeping (although did not expect it). As many others have said, the views and sunsets from this property are amazing. But what really stood out was Jose's hospitality. He helped with a few last minute requests like laundry and arranging a transfer to La Fortuna.
The location was a bit outside of town but a short taxi ride and most tours will pick up and drop off for free. All in all, a great stay.
The two things that could have made it better - would have liked softer bed linens (they were a bit scratchy) and I thought the restaurant on premise while good, was a bit overpriced. Gustavo is a sweetheart though!

We stayed here for two nights in July and were extremely happy. Talked with the owner Jose for a while and he is a great guy with a great story about his hotel. He was extremely helpful when we ran into some transportation trouble. There are not many rooms, but they are stunning with an unbelievable view. The rooms look brand new, with beautiful wood work, smartly furnished, comfortable bed, modern bathroom, sitting area that provides a view of the valley. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow us to use it, but there is a fire pit that provides the same view. The hotel is outside of the town of St. Elena a bit, so you will need a car or to use a taxi service, the distance isn't far but there are not sidewalks for a stretch.

From start to finish our stay at Trópico was amazing. The VIEW!!! Wow. This hotel definitely has the nicest out of all the hotels we saw in the area. Loved that we had our own little casita. Jose, the owner, was so nice & helpful. We were able to check in early. Right away he gave us a breakdown of the town, showed us everything on a map and booked reservations for us at tours and dinners. Speaking of dinners- he recommended Gastroclub- we went... and it was AMAZING! It’s a Peruvian restaurant. I’m still thinking about the Peruvian seafood soup and it was less than 6000 colones. Overall highly recommend staying here at Trópico.

First of all, the host, Jose really makes this place what it is. He is very welcoming, and was always available if we needed anything. We felt like we made a friend by the time we had to leave.
The room we stayed in was very comfortable, we loved the blackout curtains, the bed was very comfortable, the shower was great, and the water was hot.
The location was great, because it was close to town, but not in the middle of everything so you definitely felt like you had peace and quiet.
The view from the gardens and the room is spectacular.
We would highly recommend!

Special thank you to Jose and his family for being open right now. We are from the US and currently live in CR. We visited Monteverde when things were just beginning to open from COVID. After being housebound for over 3 months we needed to get outside and do some hiking. This is a great location, only a 5-minute drive to town. We can't wait to return when everything is fully open, because the restaurant on-site looks adorable. The view from your front balcony is so pretty, there is a short walk above the property with even more views of the mountains. Our room had a mini-fridge and coffee pot. I loved the bed! Super comfy with (4) sleeping pillows. The WIFI worked great, lots of outlets for charging things and the hot water is super hot. I do want to mention that this is a newer lodge, completed in 2017. So the furnishings are new and the room is nicer than what you see in the photos, extremely clean too. The included breakfast is delicious and you have a beautiful setting overlooking the mountains. For anyone living in CR right now, this is a great time to visit Monteverde, we visited the cloud forest and only saw 2 other people the entire time we were there.

Tropico Monteverde is right outside of Santa Elena, the road to the hotel from town is fully paved (I'd read some reviews where it's not - it is!) The locations is relatively close to all that the area has to offer, we were never in the car for more than 20 mins! The view from each villa was spectacular, you look down into the canyon.

The rooms are HUGE and beautiful. The beds are very comfortable (and larger than king size.) The bathroom had a wonderful rain shower!

The staff are amazing, they go out of their way to make sure our stay is the best. I mainly interacted w/Gustavo and the restaurant staff, but the gals that clean the rooms are friendly too (and the room was always VERY clean!) Gustavo daily went above and beyond to make sure I had everything that I needed, booked things for me, and even made delicious drinks. They all seem genuinely invested in making sure your stay is happy, comfortable and you're well fed.

The food at the restaurant is amazing. I had several different pastas & one pizza and I can't pick a favorite, all was really good!

No. It’s located in the opposite direction but the views are breathtaking of the Nicoya Gulf. It sort of just out on a precipice. It’s away from town by several miles. No bird watching. Interesting insects though.
