Clean room, FANTASTIC staff, comfortable beds. I will come here everytime; the staff were so patient, friendly, knowledgeable and kind hearted plus our rooms were clean. There isn’t much fluff to the hotel, which helps keep the price low. I like that a lot. Breakfast is included downstairs at Spectacolur. For those new to Costa Rica this hotel does use the electric water heater for the shower so if you aren’t familiar you may have a cold shower the first day (or ask for assistance) Also, please don’t flush your tissue in the toilet. Don’t worry, the staff empties the waste baskets daily
Mixed feelings about staying here as it's a very affordable place to stay, if you are ok with forgoing some comforts... Pros: - Staff were very friendly - Carlos in particular (at the front desk) was very helpful and spoke excellent English, and helped arrange everything. - Accommodated my early check-in which was very nice. Room was very spacious. - Very central location - literally could not be better placed in Santa Elena. The main strip of restaurants is just around the corner, and the public bus to the Monteverde Cloud Forest leaves directly across the street in front of the building. Cons: - One thing that nobody ever mentions about Santa Elena / Monteverde is how WINDY the area is! As a result, the wind literally howls through the town and you can hear it whistling through the room all day and night, sometimes so loudly it sounded like the building was going to be blown away. To be fair to the hotel, from what others have said, many other accommodations in the area also have this problem. - Cold showers - I shower in the evenings, and both times (6pm and 9pm) there was lukewarm water in the shower for the first 30 seconds, which then became cold and never warmed up again. Cold showers unfortunately exacerbate the feeling of cold and damp of the room. - No kettle in the room to heat up some water to warm myself up. Had to huddle under the blankets to keep warm (no heating either). To be honest, there is nothing else really in the room besides the beds, a bedside cabinet, and what could be a TV stand (but without a TV). - Room didn't have much natural light - the one big window looked out into the common area so it was fairly dim. - Wifi wasn't great, it kept disconnecting.…
A nice simple hotel, extremely good location in the centre of the town. Hotel offers a well priced laundry service. Nice and hot showers and very comfy beds with blankets for when the temperature drops in the evenings. A small communal sofa/chair area for groups to gather and people to chat.
Stayed here for two nights. Dated, as mentioned in the title. The walls were paper thin so any conversations from other rooms or communal areas were audible. The high winds made it feel like the room was going to blow away. Poor showers and shabby bed linen. Location was ideal in the centre of Monte verde. Needs a revamp!
The hotel had extremely thin walls, no air conditioning and cold showers. This was very fitting as the room resembled a sauna (made of 100% dark wood). We shared our room with lizards (I don’t believe they paid!) As a result of the paper thin walls we could hear every sound which occurred in neighbouring rooms including walking, talking and pooing (not what wanted to hear when trying to sleep). We wanted a cup of tea and it took 20 minutes to boil the kettle; by that point I no longer wanted the tea. However, it was in a good location.
Amazing location in Monteverde with an great breakfast, choice of 3 breakfast: Pancakes - scrambled eggs and toast or traditional. Large rooms & friendly staff. They can also arrange all tours and the local Costa Rica restaurant gives you a free drink n dessert with every dish. Close to all amenities and free WiFi. The walls are a little thin as could hear neighbour but they were inconsiderate as door slammers!
Patricia and co took great care of us, helping to figure out how to make the best of our time (and helping us to practice our Spanish :). Kooky place, not luxury but clean and great location. Very friendly staff :) Thanks Patricia in particular! :)
This place is right downtown, close to everything. Shuttles to activities leave across the street. Best breakfast choices of any of the hotels I stayed in so far in CR. Friendly staff can book anything for you. Roomquite adequate, with hot water shower! Would have liked a place to hang my clothes...but that was the only downside.
We stayed 2 nights at El sueno. The location is perfect to visit Monteverde. The breasfast is included in the price and excellent. Rafael the manager was very helpfull i forgot some playing cards and jewellery .. they hold it the time i found a solution to have it back. Family businees i highly recommend.
I really enjoyed my three night stay here. It’s close to so many great places to visit, eat and drink in Santa Elena. It’s also walking distance from the public bus station which is very convenient if you’re coming from San Jose or elsewhere. You’re right near the grocery store, an ATM with dollars and colones, lots of good food and fun tourist places like the orchid garden. The staff were incredibly helpful and convivial and can help you organize fantastic tours. I went in an amazing night jungle tour within hours of my arrival with the help of staff. (Thanks for everything!) The one drawback is that the rooms are right next to each other and if you’re next to loud people, you’re going to hear everything. I had one night where the couple next to me argued for a while and it was a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise, great, though. And multiple options for breakfast!…
