I looked around the town for about 1.5 hours and this was the best midrange place I could find that was close to the center. Great location, and great setting (right beside a creek). The room I had was really nice, windows on both sides, not too small. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Stayed here with a friend and absolutely loved it! The breakfast each morning was delicious and filling. The room was very comfortable. Marleny was so helpful, especially with getting food recommendations and booking tours. We would definitely recommend staying here. The location was central and we found places to eat and shop nearby.
Important items like cleanliness, safety and Marvalous staff made our two night stay worth while, our hostess Marlenny stepped up and saved us with a credit card mess, calling her friend Jose to allow us to access our banking through his account. Its always the people in Costa Rica that make the difference, proved over three separate trips from Canada Pura Vida
Marlenny was very friendly, and our rooms were inexpensive yet comfortable. The breakfast was delicious both days; it was served in the common area which had a dining area, kitchen and lovely sitting room with couches and a table. We booked a zipline excursion via Marlenny that was absolutely amazing.
We would come again for sure. Marleny was incredibly helpful as we had to leave our previous lodging suddenly late at night. Online booking wasn’t even open and she answered her phone cam down from our house, gave us a tour, keys to the kitchen and made us feel welcome at 11pm. If you’re looking for kind friendly hospitable service with clean rooms and plenty of plants to enjoy stay here! Great location just a block from the main plaza in Santa Elena. Oh and she also coordinated our taxi boat taxi to la fortuna/arenal which was so helpful!
This is a fantastic bed and breakfast in Santa Elena! We received the most personal, genuine, and heartfelt service from the owners, which is the very definition of quintessential Costa Rican hospitality. The property is very small, with only ten rooms and a common area at the bottom of a hill. The rooms are very basic, yet clean and functional. This bed and breakfast is an excellent value, as a delicious breakfast was included each morning. We particularly appreciated access to the inn's kitchen, as we were able to prepare a few meals for ourselves. A particular bonus was that the innkeeper's wife shared her homemade banana bread with us, and even gave us the recipe on our departure! The innkeepers told us about their family-run coffee plantation, from which they serve their fresh coffee in the morning. I honestly felt that I was treated like family here. The innkeepers also helped us with arranging transportation to continue on the next stage of our trip. I must add that knowledge of Spanish was a tremendous asset to our stay here, as for any trip to Latin America in general. However, the innkeeper's children speak English very well. I should also add that our room was right next to a road with frequently passing vehicles, so the noise was a bit bothersome at times. I suggest just bringing a pair of earplugs which should solve that problem. Just remember where you are! All in all, it is clear that this is a delightful, family-run bed and breakfast that I would highly recommend for any traveler, particularly one who is looking for an authentic experience, who is looking to really connect with the local culture. Muchas gracias!!…
Nice place with hipsterish touch. Great value for money, very friendly staff and very good breakfast. It is located in centre so you have a lot of eating and shopping options just in a few minutes walking distance.
My partner and I had an incredible stay here. We stayed 2 nights in a double room. The family who owns the property are so lovely and kind. We enjoyed the calm space and felt right at home. Very clean, very comfortable, very affordable and very good location.
My boyfriend and me were only for a short stopover in Santa Elena to have a wall in the cloud forest and to head to Montezuma the next day. We regret that we could not stay longer in the B&B and get to know more about the coffee the family is growing. Highly recommendable!
On the plus side: Staff are friendly, location is decent (steep dirt road and nearby nightclub with music until the wee hours notwithstanding). Kitchen is nice, plenty of tea and coffee (though access hours are limited to 7am-9pm - not exactly ideal for night-owls like us!). Shower was hot - our room had a perfectly functional Frankenstein-type shower head (as we used to call them in S. America ;-) that electrically heats the water as it passes through. On the other hand: Bathroom a bit small and laid out problematically (not enough room between your legs and the door when on the throne). Less than wonderful smell in the room the whole time we were there - something like a cross between cheap cleaning products and a locker room; I suspect inadequate ventilation. Thin windows and walls. Bed and especially pillows less than stellar. Also, our double room with private bath was described as having a mini-fridge and hair-dryer (there's a fridge for sure in the online picture of the room we had, #3), yet neither item was there. Finally, the internet was intermittent and the 700-8:30 breakfast that needs to be pre-booked is limited (gallo pinto for breakfast?). Oh well. Monteverde is a very touristy town and this place wasn't exorbitantly expensive. The family that runs it is friendly as well.…
