Good place, good deal. It's too bad that breakfast got us a nail that left us with a bad taste. 10€ for a buffet (a few pastas, a little fruit, industrial pastries, and little else) where there was almost nothing and for 2 nescafés (very bad by the way) and a toast charged us 10€. An abuse... Better to have breakfast somewhere else so you don't feel cheated.

Charming and cozy hotel.
The restaurant is well eaten and has a menu.
Rooms close together and that makes you hear the exits and entrances of those next door.
It has easy to park in the back of the hotel.
Marta the owner attends you magnificently at all times.

On a miserable night in March, a warm welcome! Although nothing outstanding from the outside, the Penalabra is lovely. Very decent spotless room, friendly owners, good price (44 euros for double, breakfast 5 euros each)
We missed the evening meal as we thought the dining room was closed - we went out too early. It transpires it's about the best restaurant in Cervera. Curses! But the breakfast was excellent - fresh bread, fruit, cake (a home-made apple cake) and lots of coffee.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are very quiet - the river is across a field 50 yards away.

We stayed here for one night on our way back to Santander from Leon - fantastic scenery on the edge of the Picos de Europa.
Our room was basic but fine.
We decided to eat at the hotel (there was almost nowhere else) but for some reason the manager was extremely surly when we asked for a menu and impatiently gestured us into the restaurant. We thought they must be about to close (at 9.30 p.m. in Spain?!), so my husband hurriedly ordered, from a bad-tempered waitress, who then grudgingly dumped plates of food in front of him (though she was charming with everyone else). We've have never been so badly treated anywhere, and if my husband hadn't been so hungry we'd have walked out. (I'd completely lost my appetite by that time, because of the manager's and waitress's attitude. We were civil to them, so why couldn't they be polite to us!?) The manager continued to behave icily towards us the next morning. We were very glad to leave, and would advise people to stay well clear!
