We are a family of four travelling around Portugal and opted to stay here for one night. I wish we had allowed time to stay for longer, as this place is stunning. The family room was large and spacious with a sitting area and lovely bathroom with really fluffy white towels.
The weather was quite rainy so we couldn't really take advantage of the lovely gardens. There are many nice restaurants within walking distance. We opted to eat at Pizzeria Roma just up the hill and were not disappointed.
The hosts are so welcoming and the breakfast that was included was divine. I love hand made foods and most of the breakfast items were made by the hosts. I don't usually eat cake for breakfast but it was hard to resist!!!
The hosts were so nice and welcoming to our boys.
We feel very happy to have chosen this place to stay in Cinfaes.

We stayed at Cerrado dos Outeirinhos for a week in May, using it as a base to explore the Douro Valley.

Along with other reviewers, we did find it rather difficult to locate on our arrival - even a local business a couple of doors down the street seemed unable to help. As it turns out our satnav was correct, we just didn't recognise the house from the pictures on the website, as it is located directly on the street, with the parking accessed from the rear of the property.

This is very much 'Joseph's house', in fact we found ourselves calling it that during our stay, although this has as much to do with the fact that the name is difficult to pronounce for those of us who don't speak fluent Portuguese!

The house is long and low, built of solid stone blocks and beautifully restored inside to reflect it's history and heritage. That said, the rooms have modern bathrooms, plenty of power sockets and lots of storage space and comfortable beds; the provision of towelling bathrobes and slippers is a nice touch and unexpected in this price bracket as is efficient air conditioning.

There is a first floor terrace with chairs, tables and sunshades, for enjoying the afternoon sun and a residents lounge, although this has been rather furnished for form (historic portuguese interior) over function and I couldn't imagine 'lounging' in it.

The attraction of the guest house for us, on a driving holiday, was the availability of secure, off-road parking. This is accessed by a narrow road at the rear of the property. The drive down is narrow and steep, but we managed it in a Mercedes SL. As guests we were not given a key to the gates, so needed to find the owner each time we returned to the property, this worked alright on all but one occasion, when we were eventually able to contact him on the phone. We made use of the outside tap whilst there to give the car a wash (we had come with our own bucket and products).

There are a number of good places to eat within Cinfaes and Joseph is a mine of information on restaurants in Cinfaes and further afield. Due to the topography of the area, you may find yourself preferring to eat in Cinfaes and thereby avoiding a longish or windy, hilly drive.

The doors to the property are locked between 11.00 - 11.30pm and guests do not hold house keys, so keep an eye on the clock.

Joseph speaks fluent French and much better English than he gives himself credit for. We found ourselves having French as our 'lingua franca' and having to draw upon our school french from many years ago.

Unlike other establishments, breakfast seemed to be a negotiable schedule in the mornings, and we would discuss with Joseph each evening what time we would like breakfast the following day. We may have lost something in translation, but we would have preferred to have a definite timetable for more certainty.

Breakfast is served in a cozy and cool room on the ground floor. Joseph's wife provides a selection of cakes and pastries, fresh fruit, cold meats and cereals, with the emphasis on carbs. Delicious warmed bread rolls are served to your table, together with fruit juice and tea or coffee.

Joseph knows the area well and is a mine of information on places to visit, best routes to take and places to eat. He will create a hand drawn 'explication' for a day out, giving recommendations for stops along the route.

Whilst there is plenty to see in this area, it is important to take into account the topography of the region, something which perhaps we didn't consider sufficiently when planning our holiday. A journey out of the valley can take a seemingly disproportionate amount of time, just because you are navigating hills and mountains, valleys and minor roads; some towns we had planned to visit were realistically out of our range because it would have taken well over 2 hours to reach them. Of course, this is beyond the control of Cerrado dos Outeirihos but perhaps a day or two here and then moving on is the best option if you wish to see a good part of the Douro valley and surrounding towns.

We enjoyed our stay in Cinfaes, the accommodation was comfortable and we received a lovely welcome.

We stayed at Cerrado dos Outeirinhos for 5 nights as a base to explore the spectacular Douro Valley. Jose and his wife were the perfect hosts. Jose is rightly very proud of his renovated old house. We stayed in the garden suite which has some lovely original features but with all mod cons. The room was spotlessly clean, with some added touches that you probably wouldn't find in a b&b of a similar price. Breakfast was plentiful, with delicious homemade cakes and preserves. Jose was very friendly and extremely helpful in planning our days out. We would have no hesitation in recommending this B&B.

The place is very nice, crystal clean and nicely furnished. We were welcomed with a glass of port. Josè is an outstanding host. He even arranged for us a little map with a custom made itinerary we could follow the next days. Cerrado dos O. is a great option in the area.

Jose Ferreira and his wife are amazing hosts. We enjoyed a two night stay in July and used this bed & breakfast as a base to explore gorgeous Porto. The village is small, but relaxing and a true holiday feel. This b&b has a beautiful garden with lots of oranges, lemons and vine. I just loved every bit of our stay. Breakfast was sufficient and included delicious home made cakes and marmalade. The room is comfy and super clean. Wifi works best in the reception area.
