Ko Samet is a lovely island with some great bays and a laid back Thai atmosphere.
The Grand View Resort is on the beach but beware that at high tide, the beach disappears. At this time of year it is generally back to beach by mid morning so just time for breakfast, which is more than adequate and served outside on the sand (leading to the beach), which is also the area used for lunch and evening dining and the bar.
Lunch and evening menus are varied and if very good quality.
The staff are generally very good and happy to assist.
The rooms could do with a makeover. Whilst being very comfortable, signs of age are creeping in. The new build rooms under construction will answer this and they look very nice from the drawings we saw.
Being a small Thai Island, usable water is piped into the resort each day and it is not unknown for the resort to run out of water during the late morning/early afternoon before the supply boat pulls in and unloads.
If you go for a weekend and only eat at the resort, be prepared for a fire show on the beach each night. It is very entertaining but once seen is enough.
Best go and search other restaurants on the bay (3 available) or take a 2 minute walk to the next bay (turn right) where there are many more.
All in all still a very relaxing place to be but not for too long.
We had two garden villas which turned out to be very close to the sandy beach and had lovely views of the ocean.
While the location was great, overall it is expensive; more than you would expect to pay. There is no pool or gym so not really a resort. No on demand English language movie channel.
Rooms were clean and reasonably modern; linen fresh and beds comfortable. The beach towels are due for an upgrade.
The breakfast buffet was nice in a lovely setting overlooking the water. Coffee was nice.
We ate most meals at the onsite ocean front restaurant - feet in the sand and under fairy lights - and really loved the massaman and Penang curries. We tried some other venues on the island but decided this was the tastiest and cleanest.
The staff were very nice.
We would recommend this hotel which is easily reached from Bangkok. The trip from BKK airport took 2 hours each way by private taxi plus 15 minutes on the private hotel speedboat.
We've mainly enjoyed resting at the shore and swimming as well as the restaurant & bar.
All staff is friendly and helpful and the resort cabins provide the impression of staying in a private bongalow while being very well cleaned and equipped with air-conditioning, mosqitonets as well as showers.
Also not to be left out is the breakfast buffet that provides a wide variaty of dishes, fresh fruit, cereals, bread, coffee, tee fruit juice as well as freshly prepared omelets and pancakes.
All in all a wonderful experience!!
Bath does not work has no water flow and hot water not working! Only shower is good!
No real coffee capsule machine only dried freeze cheap coffee!
Breakfast is nice, they deliver to your room!
Lack of space for clothes !
No mosquito door sliding mesh.
No shop on site for little things.
But beautiful place kind staff, just needs attention to detail to bring it up to high class luxury.
It’s the small things that matter when you are on holiday!
This place can improve, just need to spend more time money and effort to bring it up to match and compete with the other luxury hotels standards near by the same location.
Eg:- Samed Tanmarand resort! This place is perfect! Wonderful high standards. Resturant and cocktail bar too!
Been also rated best food and cocktails in koh samet. Actually k must agree!
Wet and full of sand and will grab any food you have on your balcony, the same friendly dogs stick their heads onto your table at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We asked the staff who the dogs belong to they said no one but they still treat the dogs with a lot of respect, we like dogs and have dogs our selfs at home but to have dogs begging for food at your hotel table and sleep on your towel and clothes on your balcony is nothing I would wish on any guest no matter how many are ok with it. It’s not hygiene and it’s dirty to have in a hotel. Staff is wonderful and the place is amazing but remember not everyone is ok with dogs and cats this should be respected... or put up a sign saying this is a dog hotel where dogs eat and sleep with guests then people would be aware and if and if they did not like that they could have a choice to go somewhere else.
"What has been very convenient to us was to rent a scooter at the arrival on Ko Samet. It might be a good idea to have sufficient mosquito protection (good spray). "Read full review
