Had a fabulous trip to Coorg. Stayed at Ashraya. Check out website at ashrayaincoorg.com. It is important to call in advance so that you are not disappointed. Lovely house in the middle of a coffee estate. Wonderful hosts. Never felt like leaving.

Me and my wife had amazing weekend at Ashraya Homestay at Cheyandane. Swathi Aunty and Lal uncle treated us with great hospitatlity. The homestay is clean and beautiful. Swathi aunty made Coorg special food for us (Chicken and Pa-puttu). Lal uncle took us to waterfall, he organized a camp fire and showed us his coffee estate. They suggested us places to visit and to eat on way.
I must say that there was perfect blend of professional service with personal touch.

Definitely a place to visit again.....

Thanks a lot Swathi aunty and Lal uncle.

It was our first experience at a homestay and must say, it was one of the most memorable one.
To start with, right from the time we landed at the airport, we had aunty proactively reaching out to us, guiding us on the route, recommending places to eat on way etc which was very comforting in a new place.

Upon reaching, we were welcomed by this amazingly warm couple who immediately became our uncle and aunty :). Over the next two days that we stayed at Ashraya, we felt absolutely at home, well looked after. Rooms were clean with fresh linen well equipped with hot water. Despite the hot afternoon, room was cool and pleasant sans any mosquitoes. We could sleep with windows wide open and fresh air. While my husband enjoys any form of meat, I am a strict vegetarian amd was initially a bit sceptical about getting good veg meals. But I was amazed at the choice of veg meals served by aunty along with the pandi curry and other delicacies that my husband relished.
Theres a lot to do and see around the place. Just hire a car and see the tourist attractions or go around the estate, trek up the hill behind the house. I personally learnt a lot about the coorg culture, cuisine, about managing a coffee estate and about life in coorg, which is obviously very different from Mumbai. Uncle took us around, showed us how coffee is grown, plucked, dried and stored. Bee keeping as a hobby-I saw for the first time. Very interesting and lots to learn.
Evenings were spent with the couple over a drink, sharing the day's happenings and planning the next day amongst other things. Home made filter coffee was addictive. The ancestral home uncle took us to, transported up back 200 years.
All in all, highly recommended to anyone who plans to visit coorg. I'd say stay at a home stay instead of a hotel. And stay at a home away from from home...

This is exactly what one looks for in a home stay.... I have lived in 3 other homestays in Coorg, however this one wins hands down.
Beautiful!!! It is one of the most well maintained properties I have seen, exactly as seen in the pictures. The house is so tastefully done, each and every piece in the house appears like it was meant to be ‘only’ in that place. Clean, neat and tidy.. the entire house including the homestay rooms. Fresh linen, laundered towels.. and very well maintained bathrooms.. come very very close to that of a 5-star property. The layout is so good that you get your own privacy and at the same have access to every facility.
Amazing!!! That’s what I can say about the food… Homemade to the core, be it the local delicacies or a preparation of your choice. I had a 15 mth baby with me and I did not even have to mention about her food separately.. it just got taken care of !!
Excellent hosts, very enthusiastic and friendly and at the same time non-intrusive.
A trip to a 350 yr old ancestral home and the coffee plantations were the highlights of the stay.
All in all an amazing experience, one that I will never forget.. highly recommended!

Visited in Nov 2010....was not very net savy those days.Today I recommended this home stay to someone and went through recollections of lovely memories of my first wedding anniversary at Ashraya Homestay.....The fresh honey, the coconut fish curry, the passion fruit juice, the orange peel jam, the red grape wine... aunty's coorgi style sari, uncle's drive to the near by temple, drive to waterfall and drive for boating in a desserted lake with wild fragrant roses along its banks. Thank you sooo soo much Uncle and Aunty

Our first experience ever with a home stay began with a trip to Coorg and selecting Mrs. Aiyappa's coffee estate at Cheyandane for our 2 night stay. And wow, what a choice that we made!
From the moment I called up Mrs. Aiyappa for enquiring about her property and it's availability, the hospitality began therefrom. Whether it be the calls to inform us on the way so we don't get lost, or to check what my wife and I would've liked to have for lunch, ..the experience was like we were going to meet someone in the family, and not someone unknown.
Each moment we spent at their rich 3 floor estate was like a moment spent at a home away from home.. The hosts stay on the top floor, and we selected the 1st floor, while one could also select the Ground one... Both are equally good!
The house (and the estate) is tucked in a peaceful location, at a distance of roughly an hour from the crazy hustle bustle of Madikeri. One could wake up with the chirping of birds, the rays of mild sunshine on the face, and the occasional cool breeze that feels oh so refreshing!
Ms. and Mr. Aiyappa went out of their way to make us feel at home, by offering us warm homely hospitality, fantastic estate grown coffee, and sharing their rich family history over the wonderful dinners made complete by absolutely finger licking authentic Coorg food! Mr. Aiyappa helped plan our itinerary for the days, and gave us complete information on how to see the best of Coorg in the quickest of time! Also, our last day at Coorg was made even more special by Mr. Aiyappa with a tour of his wonderful estate, with rich stories around the trees that he and Mrs. Aiyappa grew together... How they knit this wonderful world piece by piece. Absolutely amazing! To top it all, as an extension of their warm gesture, they gave us fruits from their Orchard to take back home.. I found it to be really touching! It was like we had gone back in time when we used to visit our uncles and aunts during the summer breaks, and we'd never want to go back!!
A small word of advice to travelers... Its a Homestay, and expect yourselves to be greeted in and staying in a home. It's not a Hotel, and absolutely not for the guys who expect it to be one. Its a place with lovely hosts who cherish sharing their small world with people who appreciate. And believe me, we never felt for a second if we were staying away from our own home.
My wife and I truly thank Mrs and Mr. Aiyappa for their warm and cordial hosting, and I'm very sure our next visit to Coorg will surely have our stay confirmed at Ashraya!

This was our first experience of a homestay. We are glad to say that it surpassed our expectations. The hosts are gracious , knowledgeable, mature and generous. Special care was taken to provide for the varying requirements of our group of 4. My mum aged 69 was well looked after, as was my son aged 13 and also ourselves. We requested for coorgi cuisine as well as a separate menu for our son as he is picky with food, and the food was delicious, with generous portions, and the menu was varied, and diverse. The rooms are large and the toilet spic and span. The drive to the estate is scenic and we never tired of it. Our hosts were so kind to our driver as well. We felt so welcome and will only opt to stay at ashraya homestay should we visit coorg again. Having travelled to many countries, we can safely say that this homestay experience was even better than a hotel stay and was a one of a kind experience that we would love to repeat.

My husband & myself were doing a Road trip from Mumbai to down south and Coorg was one of our destinations, we decided to choose a homestay at Ashraya. We had the most amazing experience, Uncle & aunty went out of the way to take care of us. The location is gorgeous as u look into coffee plantation, tall trees & hills... practically one can sit outside the house & just gaze thru the natural beauty. The rooms & bathrooms were very clean & spacious.
It was a true homestay where we got introduced to coorgy culture, we visited the ancestral home & the temple were all special ceremonies are held.
One word of caution - watch out on your weight as Aunty servers the most delicious food that after one meal you wait what special is being prepared for the next meal and not to miss the desserts .. mouth watereing.

We were here on our honeymoon in 2012.Mrs. Aiyaap whom I would like to fondly call as aunty ensured that everything was perfect just like any parent would plan for their kids. It was aunty who planned our everyday itinery. She helped us get a good deal with the cab driver. Uncle showed us around his coffee plantation. The rooms were very clean and good. My first experience of a homestay was just wonderful. if in coorg no need to shell out lots of money & book a hotel room. AAshraya Homestay can be your best Ashraya. :)

We booked the stay after going through the wonderful feedback here. However we had not expected much.
After the confirmation of the stay from us, aunty made sure that we were well posted about the climate and the route. Her calls made us feel that we are looked for and welcomed.
After having reached there we were overwhelmed to see and feel their beautiful place and their beautiful home and to top on it the couples had been waiting for us with a big smile. The home was beautiful and well kept, bathrooms were really spacious and neat. The linens were clean.
All this gave us a feel at home though away from home. The most looked forward thing of the stay - the food was amazing, tasty and well spread. We enjoyed the food as well as our kids.
Uncle was very caring and he made sure we are comfortable and we get the things that we looked for. Aunty took us for a walk through the estate and explained us the life of coffee from the plant to the cup. The natural fruits around the estate made us feel a maugli in the jungle. The rains, the birds chirping, kids playing around and a cup of coffee in our hand made it a perfect environment.
There is so much to write, but it is better that you go there are experience it!!!
Thank you again Uncle and Aunty
Pros - A stay that pampers and cools you down.
Cons - Tempted to go back again :)
