We have recently returned from a short trip to Northern Ireland where we stayed at Laurel Villa Guest House in Magherafelt. Eugene and Gerardine are perfect hosts - charming and helpful yet unobtrusive. Their home is an oasis of calm and is fascinating for the Seamus Heaney fan - full of books, paintings and reproductions of poems framed on the...

This is an outstanding place to stay if you are interested in Seamus Heaney or just wish to have a great stay when travelling in Ireland, perhaps to or from Belfast's airports. Gerardine's breakfasts are wonderful, incorporating two types of homemade scone. The hospitality offered by both her and Eugene is heartwarming and even extended to a glass of wine...

I try to stay in Laurel Villa when I can. On this occasion I bought an overnight stay for a friend for Christmas so this was a good excuse to return. On this occasion I was given the Heaney room and my friend had the Longley room. The rooms are comfortable and have great atmosphere as they have prints and...

When we arrived a very warm welcome was given to us by the owners Eugene and Geradine, we were shown to our rooms, all named after Irish Poets. I was in the...

We stayed here for four nights, using the house as a base for some family research and also for sightseeing. Eugene and Geraldine made us so welcomed, it was hard to believe that we were not long time friends of theirs, rather than paying guests. Eugene's knowledge of local history proved invaluable as did Geraldine's contacts. We stayed in the...

The top spot on our 3 week tour of UK and Ireland. Beautiful, historic house full of cultural mementos and a veritable shrine to Irish poet Seamus Heaney. Eugene went out of his way to do some basic research for us on family records from the area and point us in the direction of relevant cemeteries. The breakfast setting and...
