Detailed Reviews
I have just returned from Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria (29/09/20) and I had a fabulous time. We originally booked the Cala d’or but due to the pandemic it was closed and we were put into the Castillo so I was unsure what to expect but it was absolutely fine. The rooms were well equipped with a kettle, microwave and two hot plates, though we didn’t use due to the excellent food at the pool bar, I guess you could cook a half decent meal on them. The staff were very welcoming and surprisingly upbeat even though the place was half empty. You have to pay for the air con, tv and WiFi in the room though WiFi is free in the foyer area but we thought it was reasonable so it was no problem. The rooms were cleaned twice and we had clean towels every two days so all in all it was well worth the money. We would be quite happy to go back there again.

Hey, I really did want to give this one star to not let out at how brilliant our stay was.
Close to Puerto Rico beach (15 min walk downhill) and shopping centres (the older one currently under renovation but a few restaurants and stores still open)
Initially went for 4 nights however as it was so quiet we decided to stay for 2 weeks. Due to Covid not all facilities were available but that made our decision to stay on easier as there was sunbed room (spaced out to cut the threat) round the lovely pool everyday and the pool bar was open for drinks and food. All the cleaning staff were meticulous in their regime and wonderful people and the receptionists were also amazing in allowing us to stay on and keep the same apartment.
The apartments are spacy with a long sofa, table and chairs for dining, microwave combi oven and 2 hobs to cook on. The bathroom is spacy enough for 2 people to get ready to go out and the shower had easy access so anyone with a disability should not really have a problem.
Bedroom has a wardrobe and dressing table plus bedside shelves so it's perfect for 2 people all round. There's also a table on your balcony so we ate outside the room most of the time.
TV (who would go on holiday to watch telly anyway?) and aircon unit are also ready for a small weekly charge.
Can't wait for next year when we will definitely return. Highly recommended.

We ate just back from these apartments. They are clean. But our bed linen as not changed once and according to there website there is suppose to be complementary toiletries. There was nothing like that.no hair dryer in the apartment but you can rent one. Television is locked you have to pay to watch. You pay for Wi-Fi only free in the lobby. There is no service on a Sunday or Wednesday so be careful with your towels pool bar is nice staffed by nice people. I don't think we would go back.not very impressed..

The rooms are scruffy and nothing like the photos shown. Chipped paintwork, stains on the wall, broken cushion covers to name but a few. No storage space for clothes other than a wardrobe with shelves and 4 hangers. No storage in the lounge or kitchen either. If you wanted to buy food, you had to take the cups and saucers out of the cupboard to make room.
The rooms weren’t cleaned to a good standard and weren’t cleaned on a Sunday or Wednesday which means the small bin did not get emptied. Only one toilet roll left at a time so if you ran out on a Saturday or Tuesday, tough luck!!!
Bedding was only changed twice in 2 weeks and towels 3 times. The towels were once white but now a grey colour…… not pleasant!
Lighting was shocking throughout. You had 5 spotlights in the bedroom which were blinding but the only choice if you wanted to read. There was one tiny light in the bathroom which was really dim so not great for shaving. No hairdryer in the bathroom either which you would normally expect to find.
So many hidden costs. No English TV channels and with Wi-Fi costing €32 there was nothing to watch or listen to. The safe was €26 and was in a room behind reception. Air conditioning also had to be paid for which luckily we didn’t need as the rooms were really cold with no way of heating. There was no toaster in the kitchen but you could rent one!!!
The one positive were the staff. They were very pleasant and helpful in all fairness.
I have stayed in many apartments over the years but sadly this is the most uncomfortable so won’t be returning 😢😩

On booking our holiday, these apartments looked incredibly modern and clean. On checking in, we enquired about a safe which was €13 per week… except the safe wasnt in your room it was behind reception in a shared room. (Not ideal counting money etc with other guests next to you).
We enquired about air conditioning, this had to be paid for. Thankfully we ended up staying in December rather than the height of summer. Plus the air conditioning unit is in the living room/kitchenette. You would need to sleep with your bedroom door open to feel the benefit.
Housekeeping - ummm, shocking. No housekeeping on a Wednesday or Sunday. Linen and towels changed every 3 days (or so they said). Our bed was changed twice in a fortnight and pillow cases changed three times. Had to purchase our own toilet paper due to the lack of housekeeping, if you had half a roll left you wouldn’t get a new one, even on a Tuesday or Saturday before their day off.
Shower flooded for a week and a half, after multiple complaints about using our towels to mop up the floor we were offered a new room 4 days before our return home. I explained I didn’t want to pack up our room just for four days and requested again that someone looked at it and asked for new towels. We also bought our own drain unblocker. It was finally fixed! Hooray!
Wifi, extra… €32 unless you wanted to sit in reception.
Poolside was lifeless.
Kitchenette - no toaster… we were told this was extra 🤦🏼♀️But you do get an orange/lemon juicer for your every day needs…
Lack of storage… one wardrobe with four coat hangers and 5 shelves. Not a drawer to be seen. Dressing table serves no purpose as you can only use the mirror standing up…
Bathroom was dark and had poor lighting. No hair dryer. Rationed toilet paper.
Lack of plug sockets and no bed side lighting. It’s the ceiling light or nothing. Oh and you can charge your phone in the kitchen but nowhere else.
If you want a tv, you can ask for a key as long as you don’t mind only Spanish channels. Yes you heard right the tv power on button is operated by lock and key.
I will say that the female receptionist was really friendly and helpful, but this apartment is far from the star rating TUI are advertising.
Wouldn’t return, do your research. There are far better apartments on the island.

Nice clean apartments and really helpful friendly staff. We stay here on a regular basis. We purchased a shower head for 6 euros at the hardware counter in the Commercial Centre and it was well worth it, shower was so much better. We have been to Morgan on the ferry but this time we went to Anfi 10 minutes on the ferry and 6 euros return. I would highly recommend it. It was gorgeous there with a lovely beach bar. End of October, beginning of November weather was fabulous

Stayed here for a week with friends. (Four 48+ year olds).
I’m giving the hotel 3 out of 5 for various reasons.
Firstly the positives, the hotel is modern, it is spotlessly clean, the staff are all friendly and helpful. The maids work hard and clean rooms daily. Clean towels every other day and bedding every 5. The hotel is situated on the sunny side of Puerto Rico for the sun until it sets.
The negatives are that you have to pay extra if you want air conditioning, WiFi in your room (it’s free in the lobby) and for the tv. There is no safe in rooms to keep any personal belongings secure. Each room has an interconnecting internal door with the room next door. This is great if you have family or friends next door but not so good otherwise. The entertainment around the pool and bar 5 days out of 7 we found to be excessive with music not to our choice blasting all day and late into the evening. We did find a beautiful beach (Anfi) just a short taxi ride away for €6 which offered stunning sea, sand, shops and restaurants. The stunning Puerto Mogan is also a must for a visit by boat €7 or taxi €14 for the market on a Friday and amazing restaurants and small/harbours & beach. The hotel is situated 170 steps up for the bars shops and restaurants of Puerto Rico which would be challenging for the less able but we found was a good form of exercise every day!

Me and my partner got back yesterday after an 9 day stay here.
The place in general was okay, the lobby area was nice and clean and the wifi in the lobby was good and fast. The room was clean on arrival, I know the maids come in 5 days an week but most of the time the maids didn't even bother cleaning the room even with the clean room sign on the door. They didn't replace the towels regularly.
Most mornings I would go out on the balcony and watch the mad rush for sunbeds at 10am it was funny to watch but that meant every sensible person struggled to get sunbeds as towels would be placed and most people didn't even go down till 1 or 2pm? How is that fair? I have stayed in hotels were the staff will come round and move towels if your not back with 30 mins unless they have clocked an bag under the bed or can see you in the pool? I struggled the two days we decided to use the pool cause of this.
The pool bar was brilliant and the food was good quality, and the pool was spacious! People obviously ignored the no diving policy, the entertainment by the pool looked fun for the children and wasn't that noisy. Noise cancelling headphones did the job brilliantly.
The walls in the room are paperthin and you can hear anything and everything that is happening, not enough sockets in the room with one by the kitchen, one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. That's not enough for two people. When you arrive you get an cleaning pack which contains an washing up liquid, cloth and sponge. Which was handy but an little surface spray or handwash would have been nice.
On an night you couldn't open the window as the music from the square was loud and booming until about 3 or 4 am! I struggled to sleep and most days felt so annoyed and fed up cause of this, the air-conditioning made the air really dry and caused both us and some others I spoke to at the hotel really bad sore throats. The views from the room were amazing and you can see the sea from our room. We had 3 English channels which did the job when you wanted some background noise.
I would highly recommend speaking to Rosie on reception she was absolutely lovely and made sure things were sorted out ASAP. Had an problem with our shower and she got the room re-cleaned and the shower was sorted. Ever so friendly and always had Offred good ideas if you ever stuck for something to do.
Personally wouldn't stay here again! Lovely place but the noise at night has put us off big time and not good for people with mobility problems.

Returned home yesterday from Gran Canaria and our stay at Castillo De Sol. Although everything went into lockdown whilst we were there the staff in the hotel made sure we had food and drink. Staff on reception dealt with lots of concerns in a calm manner. Just hope that one day soon we can return as a show of appreciation. Hope that Lorraine and the rest of the staff stay safe.Thank You so much.

5 of us spent a fantastic week at The Castillo.
The staff at this laid back hotel really are outstanding.
From pool bar staff to reception, everyone is so friendly and really can’t do enough for you.
Lorraine, the entertainment host is so full of fun and has so much energy.
How she remembers everyone’s name is beyond me.
Upon our arrival at this hotel (11pm) the lady behind the bar was just pulling down the shutter on the bar to close up.
I gently asked if we could possibly get just one beer, she immediately pushed up the shutter and said of course.
Her name is Celeste, she was fabulous all week and I knew from that welcome that we would enjoy staying here.
I don’t know of any other hotel that would have been so accommodating.
It’s not just the staff who are friendly but also the guests.
We spoke to so many guests here who return year after year, some staying for 6 weeks at a time.
Everyone seems to know everyone yet it’s not clicky, just ever so friendly.
It really is a gem of a hotel.
The only negative thing I can say is that the sun loungers could be replaced with more comfortable ones.
And I would definitely recommend A/C as it’s way too noisy to sleep with the doors open and too hot to sleep with them closed without A/C.
The hotel is spotless, the pool is beautiful (salt water not chlorine)
The views from the balconies are beautiful.
We will definitely be returning to this fun place.
We all loved it.
Thank you to all at The Castillo de Sol.
