Leonardo Da Vinci grew up here. The autumn view of the Tuscan landscape is amazing, the location is great for day trips to various Italian hotspots by car and we had free parking. The interior is beautiful, homely and spacious. The owner and staff are so helpful. We stayed at the top floor family apartment with nice cooking/dining area, 2 bedrooms and private sundecks. The shower/wc combo was clean and good but a bit of a bottleneck when we all need to use it. I'd suggest a slightly more spacious shower cubical with privacy curtain and a foldable room divider for the loo. Most important, the beds are neat and comfortable. We had 4 well rested nights. Note the elevator is perfect to reach any other rooms but there is a flight of stairs to the top floor. My teenagers certify they had good WIFI. A small shop and Pizzeria is nearby. I certainly underpaid for my visit and when in the area I would stay again! Thanks, Rik&Roz

The house has 5 apartments, two on the ground floor by the pool, two on the first floor and one on the top floor. The first apartment we stayed in on the ground floor (for couple of hours only) was not cleaned properly - the cutlery and the dishes were greasy, the bedlinen on the extra bed was not ironed, the bedroom window overlooked a rock wall and the room had a strong musty smell. The towells have seen better days. Luckily the boiler stopped working and because we did not have hot water, we were moved in to the apartment on the top floor (on us insisting we move upstairs because the management's suggestion was that we use the bathroom
upstairs until the boiler gets fixed even though the apartment on the top
floor was empty!!) Again, everything was dusty, the cutlery and the dishes were not washed properly and felt greasy. The kitchen was poorly equipped, coffeemaker was dirty beyond use and we did not even get wine glasses (in Italy!). The balcony set was dirty and the parasol broken.
The house could be beautiful but unfortunately it is poorly mantained and managed. Sun decks by the pool are old and dirty, the bushes are overgrown and some of the plants are dead. The information we received about the area was really poor, there was no info pack with emergency info such as nearest doctor or ambulance, nearest shops or restaurants.

On the positive side the view was stunning and since the house is tucked away it is very peaceful and quiet, yet only 4km from Vinci (Leonardo's birthplace), about two hours drive to Siena, just over 1 hour drive to Pisa and Lucca and about 1 hour to Firenze.

Would recommend 'the Bar' - a cafe and small 'corner' shop in Porciano (15 mins walk from the house) the owner Monica is very friendly and helpful and makes the best cappuccino!

Apartment itself was clean and fairly well equipped. The seating consisted of a table and four chairs and a fairly decrepit bed settee which was not comfortable. The bed was large, the bathroom well equipped and no problem with hot water or heating. This is a one bedroom apartment and would not consider it for more than 2 people as even though there was a double bed settee and a single bed settee, there would not be much room for movement within the apartment and there is just a single toilet within the bathroom. The pool looked very nice although it had not yet been commissioned due to the temperature and weather. One thing it is worth mentioning is that the access from Pistoia which is 12 kilometres away even though the apartment is said to be in Pistoia, is via an increasingly tortuous road which becomes a very narrow single track for the final kilometre and is not for the faint hearted or non confident driver. There are very few passing places and the road ends at a dead end so there is no choice. We have a fairly large car but there are larger and I think a large 4x4 would be a struggle on the last section.

There is a supermarket about 20 minutes drive away which is OK for daily essentials.

The view from the garden is stunning which almost makes the treak up to the apartment worth it.
