We loved our stay in Imerovigli and at On the Rocks. Many others have said it before but, beware the steps, the concrete paths are twisty, steps are uneven and can be slippy when wet. If you have any mobility issues then this village is not for you. Also, it is expensive, even supermarket prices are high. If you eat or drink anywhere with a Caldera/sunset view expect to pay a lot and that includes the hotel restaurant. It is very reasonable by Imerovigli standards. The staff are all superb, whether housekeeping, Porters or Receptionists they were all lovely. Each room is unique and be warned, all come with typical Greek plumbing so just let reception know if something isn't working and they fix it really quickly. Thank you for a fantastic stay, we loved our cave room, and yes by chain hotel standards the rooms can be small but, THE VIEW!!!!!

Room Tip: Cheapest and in our opinion best restaurants do not come with a view. Try MamaLena in the square...

If you are looking for a hotel in Santorini with the BEST views, a great location & the nicest staff then On the Rocks is the place to stay. We loved staying here. The rooms are spacious with amazing private balconies/terraces that you can have your breakfast on or sunbathe. It is central to anywhere you want to go on the island and the staff could not be any friendlier. Having a restaurant next to the pool is just an added bonus. Highly recommended.

Whilst anywhere good in Santorini is going to be very expensive and sometimes challenging for location and room size etc, we can't fault On The Rocks for the support and service the team provided last week. The reception team in particular are just incredible - nothing was too much trouble from restaurant bookings (just trust them) to around the hotel. Top rate - especially Irene - THANK YOU!

We had a lovely stay at On the Rocks. The first thing you see are the fabulous views, simply stunning. We stayed in room 4 which was on the small side, not enough room for all our luggage but was well decorated and the bed was comfy. They deliver your breakfast to your room so you can enjoy on your balcony. Pool area small but we always found a bed, the bar area is lovely and we had lunch and drinks there everyday. It was very relaxing! We walked into thira every day which is quite a walk in the heat, you can get a taxi for 15 euros which is expensive for a 4 minute drive. Overall a lovely stay and we would return.

We enjoyed our recent stay at On The Rocks Hotel, Santorini. It’s an amazing, quirky place with fabulous views over the caldera and for watching the sunsets. The Reception staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They helped to communicate with other parties when our ferry was cancelled and couldn’t have been more helpful. The waiters carrying the trays of food and the porters carrying the luggage were always obliging, friendly and helpful. Can thoroughly recommend staying at On The Rocks Hotel in Santorini

My Wife and I have recently returned from a 10 night stay at On The Rocks Hotel in Santorini which cost nearly 4k. On arriving hotel porters carried our bags to our allocated room ( I’ll get back to that later) which we thought was a nice touch considering the amount of steps ( I’ll get back to those later too) we had to navigate in order to get there. The head porter Spiros was very friendly, efficient and courteous as he walked us around the complex. I have to say that the views of the caldera are the best we have ever seen. And that is the end of the positives. Now onto the info that may save you a fortune should you decide to follow it. THE ROOM On opening the door of room 7 the first thing we did was drop our heads in disappointment. I can honestly say my shed is larger and better equipped. There’s a bed on a slab of concrete, the wardrobe is narrow and does not hold cloying for two people. If you want to hang your clothes then there’s a stick on a swing with hangers attached for 7 or 8 items. There is a rack to put your case on but no space on the floor to actually place it so we ended up just putting the cases on a small table for the duration. We noticed that the air con unit was making a noise but it was blowing cold air and we were eager to get out and explore so we left it as we went out knowing that it would automatically switch off when the keys were taken out. Two night later we were woken by a loud bang and on checking found that water had been blasted out of the air con unit and all over our clothes and the tv. After that the water just poured out so we had the maid call in a maintenance man to repair it. THE STEPS TO THE ROOMS If you aren’t fit and able to climb steep ( knee high ) steps then don’t go. I witnessed one elderly American lady trip up because she couldn’t lift her leg high enough and an old man took a tumble two days later. EATING OUT All I will say is take double the money you would take on a standard holiday because this island is expensive. Well it is to working class people like ourselves. We asked at reception about visiting parts of the island by bus and both the manager and receptionist tried to talk us into using the local taxi service. They stated the busses were dirty, packed to the point that you can’t sit and had no air con. However for €35 each way we could go to Fira in a nice taxi. We declined his offer as it sounded like he had a deal with the taxi company and walked down to Fira instead which turned out to be only 3 kilometres away.We did however visit parissa on the other side of the island on the bus for €2.40 each way. CHECKING OUT Now this is the part that not only disgusted us but caused my wife to cry which on a honeymoon she should not have been doing. If you have an early flight then great. You check out at 11am and off you trot to the airport. However if like us you have a late flight then you fall into a game of will we won’t we get to shower and clean up in the spa. For us it was a no go as someone had booked a massage. So with sweat dripping off us we asked reception if we could use a shower in a vacant room as there were plenty available. The answer was an abrupt No! My wife was starting to get upset at this point so they said use the public shower by the pool. Great we thought and toddled off. Then the nightmare began. The public shower was also a public toilet and when we opened the door the stench made my stomach spasm. The bin put aside for used toilet paper ( you can’t flush it down the toilet) had no lid on and had overflowed. In order to make see this prisoner of war shower I had to take a gulp of breath, go in and take the bin outside. Then we had to clean the worktop which also had traces of poo on it. It was the worst thing I’ve ever had to do and totally spoilt our honeymoon. When we complained at reception they literally didn’t give a stuff and shrugged us off. Obviously we had had our time and they only focus on existing and new guests. We will not be back! Advice for others. If you must go to Santorini then Go to a hotel elsewhere and get a bus for €2.40 to Imerovigli.

We chose On the rocks as we wanted to experience the sunsets and mornings overlooking the caldera. Booked in 2019 for 2020, it was August 2022 before we eventually got the go ahead, post pandemic. Based in Imerovigli, the hotel is built into the cliff face, so the views are nothing short of dramatic. Breakfast is delivered to your balcony. It's worth it for that slice of paradise alone. It never gets old and we stayed for 14 days. We didn't want to leave. Let's deal with the obvious straight away. There are steps everywhere in Imerovigli and the hotel had 120 from our room to the exit. If you have any mobility challenges, this hotel (and village tbf), is going to be stressful. Kamari on the other side of the island is pancake flat, with a different vibe but might be more suited. Negatives about the hotel? None. Reception are magnificent, like a full concierge service, organising everything we asked them to with efficiency and a welcoming smile. The restaurant was good, we ate there twice but went out a lot. The same bar serves bar food/pizza during the day. The village is awash with places to eat but we can recommend "Just Eat", a local cafe with a gyros based menu from 6 euros for a meal, to "Anogi" in the Square where 100 euros for two with wine is more likely. There are restaurants with a sunset view overlooking Oia, a short stroll past Skaros rock. We ate at Throubi, a 20 min walk as a treat. Wine there is 100 euros a bottle or more but it was nice as a treat and the sunset views truly are spectacular. Fira, the capital is a "hilly" 30 min walk where there are dozens of shops and places to eat. However it's always crowded with the cruise ship passengers. We visited the volcano for a hike to the top, swam in the "hot" springs (they aren't hot) and ate a meal in the harbour on Thirassia, which was amazing (one 3 island excursion). Hired a buggy and spent some time on the beach at Perissa, went to the monastery on the top of the island and visited Kamari, amongst other things like the museum of prehistoric Thera and the wine tour. All excellently run by Santorini Luxury Travel. The rooms all vary at the hotel. Ours was below the pool and had its own private balcony with sunbeds and table. So check as some have jacuzzis etc but we found the location to the pool perfect. Sunbathe on our own balcony, 10 steps to the pool. Repeat. We also had a welcome massage at the hotel after our long hike to Oia. Santorini is beautiful. Imirovigli is a jewel in its crown and On The Rocks deservedly stands as a hotel we can recommend. The location is breathtakingly stunning and the staff sprinkle magic on top of that. They also carry your cases for you :)

santorini was lovely from the moment we arrived until we left and on the rocks topped it the taxi driver phoned the hotel we thought he was lost! and they came to the car and took us to the hotel carrying our cases it was not far but it was steep down to reception we were greeted and everything was explained we were then taken to our room number 14 again steep but the view was exactly what we thought if not better every morning we woke to see one cruise ship had gone and another had appeared the room was carved into the rock and looked and felt great with aircon. The balcony was perfect for us it had a table with 2 seats and a outside bed type area where you could lie/longe and a canopy over the balcony with a door leading out to the steps which made it private and sheltered from the sun for the morning which we really liked all looking out at the view we spent a lot of time drinking eating relaxing with that view just below us were some sunbeds which were right over the pool next to the bar area which was busy at times but never to loud to interrupt our relaxing it was very clean and tidy our room was cleaned everyday we booked bed and breakfast the breakfast was great and you had the option of having it in the bar area or on your balcony which felt like luxury although hard work bring it to you up and down the steps you could order breakfast on your phone or with a paper option from reception you just had to do it before 21.00 the night before which worked really well the only issue we had which is probably my fault to a point for not being in the 21st century was we had a meal at the hotel the first night but you had to read the menu with your phone there was no paper copy i don't have a modern phone. The staff when we asked for any information were very keen to help and always wanted us to be happy thank you the location was quite but less than 5 mins walk there are some good restaurants a supermarket and cocktail bar walk another 20mins and its a little busier with more to choose from we did walk to see the sunset at oia it was a good 2hrs 30mins walk quits dusty in places and short section on the road we walked back in the dark it was OK but better to use a bus on the back. oia was packed to busy for us much better to walk down a little from the hotel grab something to eat and watch the sunset from different places much quieter overall we if we are lucky enough to go to santorini again we would stay at on the rocks GREAT.

Great hotel, great staff and beautiful room. We went as a family of 4, we had a honeymoon suite and a standard double. Both were exceptional and had all facilities we needed. The hotel is in a great location and easy walk in to the village and also the resort of Fira. The breakfast each morning was exceptional, definitely get delivered to your private balcony, great way to start the day and fab views. All the staff went above and beyond to help, from information provided after I emailed before travel to the checking out they literally couldn't do enough. I have no negatives at all but definitely consider the hotel if you are infirm as there are a lot of steps. We will return.

What hits you first are the wonderful views. The staff are also fantastic, very friendly and very helpful. The hotel is small and therefore can get crowded in the communal areas around the pool which is also small. However best use has been made of the limited space and it is certainly sparklingly clean. The bar menu is good. Dependent on your room there are A LOT of stairs and the hotel is definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility / fitness issues There appear to be drainage issues throughout Santorini so the shower and loo did tend to flood and there was limited hot water. It was also possible to see the sewage waste from the neighbouring hotel over the balcony - not great but not a lot the hotel can do about it. Location wise Imerovigli is a small village walking distance of Thira. It has some nice restaurants and is much quieter than Thira which we liked. However Oia remains my location of choice. All that being said I do think “on the rocks” is a nice hotel and good value compared to other hotels in the island. Just avoid the bottom 2 rooms!
