We arrived at Chateau de Cambes for a three night stay, the last destination on our 3 week tour before returning to Bordeaux for our flight home. The grandeur of the chateau was unexpected as the pictures do not do it justice. Chantal and Jean Francois, our gracious hosts, provide an amazing experience for their guests. Most importantly, you not only feel like honored guests, but really like family. The rooms and suites are themed and each one is decorated with such attention to detail. We stayed in the Hermes suite which provided us with an extra room in the tower which provides additional sleeping space for a family. The room was large with a sleeping area and sitting area as well as a sumptuous bath. Breakfasts are so generous with baked surprises each day such as plum tart, plum and peach tart, assorted homemade jams, honey, an amazing array of french cheeses, fresh fruit and fresh squeezed juice, croissants, baguette, etc. Fruits are grown in this region so we were treated to peaches one morning, white peach slices alternating with yellow peach slices. Chantal even made crepes one morning. We could smell treats baking in the kitchen below our room. Both Jean Francois and Chantal provided guidance on local restaurants and opportunities for sight-seeing in and around Agen. My husband became ill during our visit and our hosts made sure that he had what needed to ensure that he recovered as well as offering assistance if he became sicker during the night. They also ensured that I was fed since we were unable to go out for a meal that evening. If one is going to get sick while on vacation, this was the best possible place for this to happen as the atmosphere allowed for relaxation both inside and outside. While we rarely return to a vacation location, I hope that we can return to Chateau de Cambes and Agen and complete our visit.

Chantal & Jean work tirelessly for their guests & for the upkeep of this magnificent chateau/castle just outside Agen. My husband organises every aspect of our trips & I have given him a rating of 11 our of 10 for staying here! The Chateau, converted out of the original castle which stood on this site and which still retains some of the original castle towers, has been exquisitely restored throughout, and has sweeping views of the beautiful Aquitaine countryside. There is a marvellous terraced area at the front where one can sit to enjoy breakfast or drinks or swim in the pool nearby while soaking up the views & garden lovingly landscaped by Chantal. If you're lucky you might hear the deep knocking sound of a woodpecker from the depths of the surrounding woods & if you go for a walk through the grounds you will most likely be treading carefully through myriads of tiny pink cyclamens as you go. We were served the most sumptuous breakfast you can imagine on the front terrace overlooking the late summer countryside. There was nothing that Chantal & Jean could not do for us - we had excellent laundry facilities, much needed after some time travelling, tea provided for us, beautifully laid out with fine China on a tray whenever we wanted it, including after returning from evenings out, and Jean even escorted us to a local ' pop up ' restaurant so we didn't get lost. The themed rooms are stunningly beautiful, each with their own ensuite, and the Hermes suite which we stayed in is situated in an original part of the castle which retains its 300 year old floor boards. The Chateau is meticulously clean, displaying paintings, artworks and libraries, yet it retains a wonderful homely, tranquil and welcoming atmosphere. If you are thinking of going somewhere special we wholeheartedly recommend this gorgeous place - it has to be for a rating of 11 out if 10!

From the first moment when Chantal and Jean-Francois welcomed us to the chateau we knew from the genuine warmth of their welcome that we had found something really special. Glorious views from a beautifully restored chateau with perfect hosts are the true traveller's dream and we found it here! After an arduous journey from Toulouse we were in need of a cool dip and when Jean Francois asked if we would like to have some champagne by the pool, we said a resounding yes. We had booked dinner which was served to perfection with excellent matched wines on the terrace with glorious evening views of the Aquitaine countryside. A copious breakfast of local produce was served on the same terrace in front of the chateau next morning. We didn't want to leave and while writing this, I want to be back there now and I can think of no finer recommendation!

What a find! Our hosts Chantal and Jean-François treated us more like family friends than paying customers. The hospitality was superb and, together with the peaceful setting and large elegant rooms, made our three night stay the highlight of our honeymoon in southern France. Divine breakfasts with the highest quality ingredients including a fabulous cheeseboard. The chateau lives up to the excellent reviews, and we would love to return in the next few years.

Wonderful stay in an exceptional place, 5 guest rooms in a restored castle with pool, gym and little spa, wonderful estate and view on Agen. Healthy breakfast on the terrasse. Excellent base to go riding along the canal, explore the region, taste foie gras. Not to be missed in the South West of France.
