Eric and Aurelie have been great and passionate hosts, serving great breakfast and dinner and having a lot of good suggestions for excursions. Beautiful view and nice pool. The family room was excellent! We can definitely recommend to stay there!
The Plantation guesthouse is great with awesome views. Our room was cozy and very clean. Breakfast was excellent and with lots of local and homemade products. We were on hiking holidays in La Réunion and booked our stays through an agency. The documentation said that check-in had to be before 1800. We were finishing a hike in Cirque de Mafate and on our way back to our precedent guesthouse in Hell Bourg to get our luggage before driving to la Plantation. Short distances take a lot of time to drive in La Réunion, some roads are in bad shape and often you can't drive faster than 30kmh. On our way to get our luggage we were pushed off the road by a bus in a tight turn on a winding mountain road, the bus just continued on and we were hanging in the ditch...not a nice experience. It took some time and a very helpful local to get the car back on the road. We arrived in Hell Bourg much later than planned because of this and realized we wouldn't be able to make it before 1800 to La Plantation so we called them in advance to let them know. From the start the person on the phone seemed annoyed with the news of our late arrival and let us know it quite clearly. Still she said they would be there and that we would arrive "when we arrive". So we took the road and drove to la Plantation, now very careful after our accident. We hit many bigger slow ups on main intersections and the highway, taking longer than google initially told us. Tired from our long hike and a bit set back because of the incident we were very much looking forward to our stay at La Plantation. On the way we got a call from the host, inquiring about our whereabouts...first I thought it was to make sure we were well....oh no definitely not, I got scolded by the lady that "it's not possible you take to long - it doesn't take so long to arrive here!" Ok wow how nice from her, she even accused us of having stopped somewhere...which we didn't...but even if we did ? She made it very clear how annoyed she was with our late arrival and that it was not possible that we check in by ourselves as they had to wait for us and show us the room. When we finally arrived at La Plantation sometime after 2000 the host was very cold and not particularly welcoming and showed us the property and our room. Tired, we didn't really think more about it. He didn't ask anything about our trip, or why we were late and didn't complain either. We went to sleep not thinking anymore about it. And by the way the hosts were still catering to the host table at this time so they were present at the house anyway even with our late arrival.... Beware...after a wonderful breakfast...the host reminds us several times of the check out time...strange but ok...telling us that he has to leave. We were ready on time and vacated the room, checking the internet in the sitting area outside the room. The host arrives and tells us we have to leave, in a very rude and aggressive manner. Surprised we asked him if we could sit outside a few more minutes. There were other guests at the house anyway. We would have left 10-15 minutes later. The host got very rude and aggressive with us, asking us to leave immediately his property. He then scolded us heavily for our late arrival and in particular for not having excused ourselves enough to him at the time of our arrival. Wow...please excuse me Sir that we did not take a knee when we arrived and asked for your generous pardon in front of your host table. I never experienced such a rude host. Your guests had an accident and then hit heavy traffic dear Sir, they called you as soon as they knew they would be delayed - but hey you obviously don't care...you rather scold them and behave like a frustrated person. A pity and a shame. Location is great though - so make sure you don't arrive late ha ha ha.…
We stayed two nights in this beautiful bnb in the heights above St. Joseph. The view was breathtaking! We will always remember the delicious food which was served on the veranda. Nearly every day the kind hosts offer to cook dinner for the guests and we highly recomend to take this opportunity. We were allowed to taste some of the rum arrangé.Thank you once again and merci!
Came back this January for a stay on the french side and felt like I was coming back home. The staff at the front desk are more than welcoming and attend to your every need with grace and warmth. The complimentary breakfast poolside is wonderful - the Best coffee machine - such a wondferful way to start the day. There restaurant on-site is very good but there are a multitude of options within walking distance as well.
Our best stay on Reunion, a wonderful location. Room at the swimming pool was a bit small but ideally located. We had a lot of fun during the dinner talking with the other guests. There was a couple replacing Eric and his wife (I forgot their name), they were outstanding.
We stayed one night in this guest house with my mife, my two children and my parents in lord. Eric and his wife are very friendly and are very careful about our well-being. The dinner was pretty good and the breakfast wonderful. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and the swimming pool. It is also a good place for children. The owners are very careful with them. Special mention for Eric’s lemon cake.
Surely one of the best B&Bs on the island with outstanding hosts. Each room tastefully decorated in its own style. We had the 'Beach' room overlooking the pool, sugar cane fields and the Indian ocean. Though the two beds in our room were on the small side the sleeping quality was fine. Services/facilities included free WiFi, TV, hairdryer, more than sufficient towels, safe, free secure parking and last not least complimentary use of the whirlpool which itself was on on elevated location overlooking the sea. We also had our dinner at the B&B, with a view which you can hardly beat and which was very convenient considering the time consuming drive to St.Joseph as the only other option. Dinner as the breakfast were of excellent quality and freshly prepared. Entertained by the host who was always around to take care of the guests the time passed by way to quickly. We could easily have stayed a couple more days which we would highly recommend to do if you have the choice. There's plenty to see and to do, your host will explain you all this in detail.…
Our stay at La Plantation left us with nothing to wish for except...a few more days to spend here! Aurélie and Eric have just settled in at La Plantation themselves which we would have never noticed if we wouldn’t have been told. The couple have found the place where they belong and now share their beautiful house and property - creating a unique space of tranquility and homeliness. Our room “Vacoa” was spacious, nicely decorated and had everything we needed (hairdryer, pool towels, a safe) including a little terrace to sit on. Just wonderful! The rooms are cleaned daily which is so nice when you come back from a long hike and find everything tidy and in order. The outside area with the pool and the jacuzzi is also immaculate and is very inviting to unwind and enjoy the scenery. One of the highlights is definitely the lovingly created breakfast (locally made spreads and jams, fresh fruit and juice and to top it off: homemade cake and muffins every day!). That and the breathtaking view has given us all the energy to explore the island. Also, Eric has many ideas to share on walks, sportive activities and cultural must-sees. So don’t be shy to ask! In the evening Aurélie and Eric cooked up a delicious three course meal for everyone to enjoy together at the big table. Travelers from mainland Europe and La Réunion both enjoyed the dishes full of local ingredients and flavors. Since we don’t speak any French we thought we might miss out on the conversation but Eric did a great job and translated for us - thank you! All in all we are happy to say, this maison d’hôtes exceeded all of our expectations. We will be back for sure! …
Very friendly peolple, breakfast and evening diner (especially) were super! We went out for a trip early in the morning (5 'o' clock) and they putted breakfast ready! Cosy room with a stunning view. Really a place to become totally zenn!
We very much enjoyed our stay in la Plantation, for la Réunion standards it really stood out. We were warmly welcomed and shown around, the elevated whirlpool overlooking the ocean is a real bonus. As we are vegans they managed to provide a delicious dinner and breakfast. The rooms were tastefully decorated and the comfort was really good. Moreover they properly look after their 2 cats which is not a given on the island.
