The 2 bed apartment is located across the road from The Bear Hotel in the centre of Cowbridge and it is full of character. Without a doubt, one of the best equipped apartments my family and I have stayed in, great value for money located in the very picturesque Cowbridge. The staff at The Bear Hotel who manage the apartment...

40 minutes wait and then over-cooked fish and under-cooked chips. Mid-week lunchtime. They didn't ask if we enjoyed our meal - probably just as well. Our friends seemed happy enough though and got their food a lot quicker. Bad luck on our part? Nice place, but very average pub food and we probably won't return to eat there.

Popped into the bear for a drink on Saturday night with friends and got hungry. Lovely gent behind the bar offered us a menu but explained would have to move to the other bar. Which we did, will have to say the staff are a credit to this venue, had some questions about the fish dish and our server went...

On the 10th of December we went to the Bear Hotel with a few friends from Swansea. Reasonable price, good food a service. We chose from the Christmas menu, most of us had Turkey whilst others had the fish. The food was well presented & served within a reasonable time scale considering the restaurant was full. We visited between Christmas and New Year, so perhaps the menu was restricted. However I expected more than 6/7 dishes to choose as a main course. We all decided to order lasagne, shame as there was none left! Possibly because the other choices were so unappetising. I ordered chicken and ham pie and it was fine, but my friend ordered...

Meet at the Bear for lunch and dinner. On all occasions, have received the best customer service from the young waiters and bar staff. The Bear hotel, and bars attracts many mature clientele so its important that staff have pleasantness suited this type of establishment. Just had a slight redecoration in part, so looks good, evidence of management keen eye....

We stayed here for my work's christmas do. The hotel room was spotlessly clean, though very very small. You opened the door to the room and were in bed!!! The food on the evening for the xmas party was really quite rubbish, considering the cost we paid, and the staff were quite abrupt and miserable, admittedly we had had a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
