Wow- what a great stay. Porta Castellana is right in the heart of the beautiful walled town of Montalcino- incredible views everywhere you turn and an amazing place to relax at the end of a long, hard day of wine tasting. Analisa is the most gracious, wonderful host- she helped us with dinner reservations and made awesome winery recommendations, encouraging...

This place was great. The owner was friendly and helpful. Our breakfast was delivered to our room in the morning. (It included cookies - a nice addition to the traditional bread and coffee only breakfasts we received at most hotels.) It's a bit tricky to find it. We walked in without our luggage and got directions and a driving pass...

A gem among B&B’s! Finding a good Bed and Breakfast in a medieval Tuscan village which is balanced with both comfort and convenience can often be a challenge. Most, are really just rooms for rent (affittacamere) masquerading as their cozier more familial counterparts. Porta Castellana, nestled in one of the most panoramic residential corners of Monalcino, is this beautiful village’s...

I went to italy with my parents and we wanted to stay in Montalcino for part of our trip. I had emailed the owner of this bed and breakfast to make a reservation. Annalisa (owner) was extremely pleasant and helpful. She booked us two rooms and also helped me plan some of my vineyard tours, which happened to be amazing....

Charming hidden gem among the hilly little streets of Montalcino. Cozy and comfortable. Beautiful garden and a perfect gazebo to enjoy a glass of Brunello and read a book. Great place to start discovering la Meravigliosa Toscana. We will definitely return!

Porta Castellana is an absolutely wonderful place to stay and was the PERFECT way to start our Italian adventure! Nestled in the heart of Montalcino, it truly felt like a home away from home for us. Annalisa is extremely gracious, helpful, and definitely goes above and beyond what anyone could expect from a host. She made us feel like we...

I had made reservations in this B&B for one night many many months ago. I had a lovely e-mail correspondence with the owner and was looking forward to our visit. We had been to Montalcino many times before but never stayed in this B&B. I wanted to try it and thought that the reviews on tripadvisor were good and gave...

Booked with very short notice via email. Prompt and fast reply. Located in the heart of Montalcino, so you can walk to all the attractions and restaurants within the city - great considering that parking is almost non-existent. Our host recommended the best spots for food, wine, tours, etc. We were given maps and introduced to all the 'secrets' -...

What a gem! We had a wonderful stay in this little slice of Tuscan heaven! Rooms open into a lovely garden patio in the heart of a real hilltown neighborhood. Getting "downtown" is a bit of a hike up steep stairs, but it's worth it to be able have the great wine and food of Montalcino within walking distance, while...

Fantastic price for a wonderful room. This place was a great place to relax. The hostess (Annalisa) was very nice and helpful the day we got in, unfortunately she asked us to pack up right after breakfast (9:30 am) and was even hesitant to let us keep our car (with our bags in it) at the B&B until 11 so...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This house, with its massive stone walls, is situated in the north-eastern area of Montalcino, ancient city in the heart of Val d'Orcia (Orcia valley) also known as "Crete Senesi" (Sienese clays). From here it's possible to have one of the best views of Val d'Orcia: San Quirico d'Orcia, Pienza and, during the clearest mornings, Montepulciano. This abode is part of one of the most important buildings of Montalcino's history, which used to be the city's mill. The mill's warehouse was where we now live and where the rooms are. ... more   less
