Our two week holiday at the Alma Resort was everything we wanted and more besides. The hotel is stylish, understated and perfect for a quiet relaxing break. We had a superior double room with sea view, which was spacious and well appointed, with a large bathroom and had a big covered balcony with a stunning sea view. It was immaculately clean and serviced daily.

There is a comfortable lounge and terrace, an impressive swimming pool with plentiful new sun beds and sea views. The breakfast buffet was exceptional and can be taken either in the spacious indoor restaurant or on the outdoor terraces with views of the sea. The hotel grounds are very well tended, full of beautiful flowers and as with the interior of the hotel, are spotlessly clean throughout.

It is a pleasant 15 to 20 minute stroll into Petra, either along the coastal road or an inland footpath and we were spoilt for choice by the fantastic choice of superb restaurants there. Otherwise, the Avlaki Beach Taverna is next to the hotel, in a very pretty setting with decent food and sunbeds on the beach.

All in all, I can highly recommend the Alma Hotel to anybody looking for a quiet peaceful holiday in a delightful, unspoilt resort. It is more than worthy of a four star rating and we will definitely return.

We had booked massages through Dimitri, who had a place at Alma Hotel. So we decided to make a reservation at the hotel too. I'm so glad we did. What a wonderful experience. We requested a ground floor room, and they were able to accommodate us. Check-in was easy, and they took our luggage and showed us to our room. Very large, nicely appointed room with a large balcony with a sea view. Fridge, freezer in the roo. Along with kettle, coffee, tea, etc. The bathroom had a deep tub with a shower. Lots of toiletries such as shampoo, soap, shower gel, razor, toothbrush, etc provided.

Loved the pool area and the bar, which has a spectacular view of Petra, the sea, Turkey & St George's Island too. The bartender Giorgi (sp) Georgia in English was so very pleasant. We had a late lunch there, too. Spaghetti carbonera was quite good. Large portion that I shared with my husband. He ordered a pizza, and we took most of it back to our room for supper.

The pool was sparking clean and the perfect temperature. There are plenty of sunbeds, too.
Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choices. Eggs, Greek sausages, cold cuts, cheese, several different breads, fruit, yogurt, cereal, Greek salad, pastries, and more. Nice coffee machine that made multiple coffees, tea & juices too. had the cappuccino with milk, and it was great. You shouldn't leave hungry.
Check out was also easy, and they were so pleasant.
We have already booked a night for our last night in Petra. We wanted to end our trip in style and comfort!

We booked this last minute and having never been to Lesbos’ or Petra before we decided to take a chance. It was a good move. The hotel is in a great position with about a 20 minute walk in to Petra.
The good - clean, beautiful location, great pool area and food. Breakfast was a little repetitive but found something every day.
The reason for not giving 5 stars are personal and maybe a little petty to some but here they are. At breakfast they regularly ran out of knives which made it interesting sometimes although the views from the breakfast terrace compensated in some way. Depending on the room you could lack privacy on the balcony. We were connected to another balcony but fortunately no one was occupying the room so again able to compensate. The chairs on the balcony were uncomfortable as there were no cushions (again petty you might say but just being honest).
Cannot fault the food at lunchtime and reasonably priced. Prices in the hotel are comparable to the restaurants prices in town. Pool area was great. Cleanliness wonderful. All in all one of the last unspoilt places we have found.

Hotel is located one end of Petra beach on a slightly raised headland. Each villa contains a number of apartments which are spread out over the complex. Our room was airy, spacious with fantastic views of the sea, mountains and Petra itself- wonderful. The cleaning of our room was excellent. Pool area very good with a good bar area overlooking the sea. No complaints there. The breakfast was typical continental - fantastic greek yoghurt and honey. Hot food at breakfast wasn't very good, thsts why only r stars. Lovely balcony area to have your breakfast. Would I visit again definitely 👍

Stayed at this lovely hotel for ten nights recently having stayed in Molyvos last year.
The standards within the hotel are excellent with everything spotless and all staff extremely friendly. We asked for an upper floor room with a view and that's what we had allocated. The downside was that it was a bit of a trek from the reception/ exit.
We wouldn't hesitate to book again as we found the location ideal for visiting both Anaxos and Molyvos for a change of scenery but also we found Petra great and laid back and flat as compared to Molyvos which is extremely hilly.
Great pool and snack bar and friendly bar in the hotel.

We have just ended our week at Alma Resort Hotel; and it was perfect. It might be big and sprawling, but it somehow manages to feel cosy, and it’s very well maintained. Our room (404) was a few steps from the main reception and breakfast area. The pool too is fantastic, the perfect depth too (1.5m). The hotel is quiet, with stunning views of Petra and all the way to Molivos. Breakfast is the standard Greek buffet, and it’s really good. It more than lives up to its star rating. We don’t normally go back to the same Island or hotel, but Petra and the Alma Resort Hotel is firmly on our go back to list for our next holiday.

Just back from 2 weeks at the Alma Hotel in Petra.
This was our first time in Petra, as we are usually based in Anaxos.
However the walk to Anaxos beach was lovely taking around 25 mins and we returned by taxi.
We loved this hotel with it s beautiful views.
Our single storey chalet was close to the breakfast room and pool and pool bar.
It was quite large and had a bath and shower over. I love a bath.
Well equiped with fitted wardrobes and drawers.
A fridge too.
A lovely little terrace.
Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice.
The pool and pool bar are lovely with a beautiful view of Petra and out to Molivos. It is a salt water pool
There is a bar with really comfortable lounge area.
It is close to the Avlaki restaurant which we will visit next year.
A comfortable 15min stroll into petra
The land train was running to and from the beach in Anaxos but it costs more than double the
price of a taxi
All staff are friendly and helpful.

This is simply an amazing place! It's set up as a little village, no high buildings. Food at the pool bar is great, with a view over the sea and Petra. The best part of this hotel is the staff who are VERY friendly and helpful. A true gem straight at the sea.

Excellent hotel, fairly small, quiet, well-run. Facilities well above average by Greek Island standards. Guests a mixture of German, Dutch, Scandinavian and a few Brits. Lovely views of Petra from terrace by pool bar. Friendly staff. Not a bland international hotel but a Greek experience of the better kind - not only was there a shower curtain (unusual in Greek accommodation of less than luxury standard) but it was changed weekly, and there was a little vase of flowers in the room when we arrived. Only 2 drawbacks - a few of the rooms are close to the road, which isn't particularly busy, but Greek youths have a tendency to ride noisy mopeds late at night! Also it's a 15-minute walk to the village centre, albeit a pleasant one along the seafront. There are no shops in the vicinity but a couple of tavernas on the main road, and the two on Avlaki beach (3 minutes walk) are excellent.

We booked at the Alma hotel in Petra, Lesvos for 2 weeks earlier this month (June 2011) via Thomas Cook. We asked for a room with a cotbed for our baby through the Thomas Cook site and a week before we flew I rang the hotel direct to request a room on the ground floor with easy access to the reception and pool. When I rang I was pleasantly surprised, our room was already allocated however they did their best to accommodate our extra requests. When we arrived we were very pleasantly suprised, after reading some reviews I wasn't expecting what I saw. The hotel is very well maintained with recption areas and grounds looking gorgeous, with palm trees and chandeliers in the reception (not to mention the little tropical 'island' by the reception desk - my baby's favourite hang out on day 1!

The room itself was just as we had requested it, on the ground floor with a lovely verandah (no lifting the buggy up and down steps and less to worry when in the verandah with a baby just starting to walk). There was a proper bath and a little kitchenette, fridge/freezer and a cafetiere/boiler for us to warm the baby's milk. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were left every day (or was it every other day- they were always clean anyway). The cotbed was a proper cot not a travelcot with a thick mattress and linen provided. Our little one seemed to sleep well in it. There is a phone and a TV in the room and it was pleasantly decorated, with a large table and 2 chairs (inside), ample space for suitcases, a wardrobe, and they had even arranged a table near the cot for nappy changing. The air conditioning is where the door is and this actually worked well for us as we didn't use it much and the few times we did it didn't blow near the cot or the kingsize bed. The verandah had a tableand two chairs and was big enough for our little one to play. It was in the shade most of the afternoon when we returned to the room from the beach or pool and a refreshing spot for our boy to paly with his toys.

When we checked in we were told the breakfast times (7.30-10). I would have wanted breakfast to start a little earlier if I was in the UK but due to time difference it actually didint matter as my baby was waking up later and going to bed later.

The girls at reception were friendly (the evening lady considerably more efficient and smiley). Opposite the reception is a small room with a PC and they charge a small fee to check emails etc, but I never had to wait to use it, despite the fact that the hotel was very busy the whole period we were there. There is also a modern bar and two big balconies where guests can have drinks in the evening (we went a couple of times, alcohol prices comparable to those at the bars in Petra).

The restaurant is upstairs but they have a ramp outside which was a godsend because we went with the buggy every morning for breakfast. Breakfast was included with our holiday package. The breakfast itself was stunning (and I say that not just for Greek standards but having travelled to many north European destinations. Many sections from yoghurts, fruit salads, muesli bar, sweets to cheese, ham, olives, eggs (at least 3 different plates every day, fried, boiled, omellette) to my favourite table with the mini cheese and spinach pies and the galaktobouriko pies and mini chocolate croissants. There was plenty of coffee and tea and bread, marmalades and so on. In summary: an excellent breakfast buffet - we were spoilt for choice every day in the 2 weeks we were there.

The grounds of the hotel were very well maintained and there was a children's playground and of course the pool with it's own restaurant bar (and amazing views of Petra). There were two pools, the adult one and a baby one, but having taken baby swimming lessons until now we used the adult one more than the kiddy one. Still, nice to have that one too as an option. My little niggle about the pool is that come noon onwards there weren't many loungers that were in the shade. Yes, there were a couple of umbrellas but on the small side, and sitting at the chairs of the restaurant isn't quite the same. Also, the popular spots were taken much early on. Apart from that a lovely pool and if our baby was a little older I am sure we would have spent more time there.

2 minutes walk from the pool is a lovely sandy beach where a taverna called Avlaki is. The taverna (and the one next to it) offers free loungers to customers and there was plenty of space and shade there. This become very quickly our favourite spot for swimming, playing with the sand and enjoying a cold frappe. We went one evening to eat there, and the food was ok - good enough but nothing special. The hotel does dinner too (for 10 euro per head) and I thought it was marginally better (more variety).

A 5-10 stroll down a road (walking carefully due to cars going by) is Petra, and its many restaurants, cafes and shops. We went there a few nights (we also spent a few days travelling to other parts of the island). We liked the Traditional restaurant for its decor and gorgeous food, and the souvlaki/meze taverna almost opposite the post office in one of the sides streets. The staff there were very friendly and really good prices (not to mention they had a baby changing room - another pleasant suprise).
Most restaurants in Petra have highchairs for babies/toddlers and accommodated our baby's diet too, so boiled courgettes instead of fried and pasta with no salt etc was possible in most places.

All in all we had a great time and hope to goback again soon.
