Absolutely excellent. Lovely rooms right next to the vineyards. The finest breakfast I've had this year. Friendly and efficient. Situated in the heart of Montagu, which is one of South Africa's most beautiful country villages. Be sure to taste the wines and brandies of the area.

Such a pity we had booked only for 1 night, a really lovely place to stay. Montagu is a little town where you can still walk around in the evening. 5 min walk brings you to the main roads where you can find little nice stores and good restaurants.

Fresh off the page - we booked for a night and immediately changed our plans and made it two ! Quite simply this is a gorgeous place in a lovely village - the attention to every detail lavished on us by the owners and staff is overwhelming but not suffocating - the welcome was warm and genuine and carried through... Very clean and nice guesthouse with a friendly service, beautiful garden, very good breakfast and very close to the hiking trails. Free coffee and a free wine to welcome us has given us a very good feeling right from the start!

Absolutely stunning surroundings! We loved our stay with the Townsends and appreciated their warm welcome and hospitality. They were extremely helpful with providing us tips and suggestions for our stay in Montagu and onward travels to the wine country. Thank you! Suzanne and Bruno, Montreal

Quiet and surrounded by beautiful gardens and the mountains it is hard to believe that the Guest House is a short walk from the centre of Montagu. The accommodation is elegant, very well appointed and spotless. The service is efficient and friendly and the breakfast is a delight. The owners Pam and Ant couldn't be more welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable... More

Premier Inn this is not ! This is the most stylish accommodation with the kindest and helpful hosts that you could wish for. I think that their aim is for nothing less than perfection. A 14m lap pool in the beautiful garden comes next. John & Jan

The best guest house accomodation we have experienced during our 2 trips touring the Western Cape. Had a very enjoyable meal at a recommended restaurant called Prestons. Unfortunately long term road works limited our ability to explore Montagu other than walking to the restaurant..

We were well received and were made to feel at home. Very comfortable garden rooms and lovely views over the garden, beautiful setting and could walk into town to restaurants and shops. A delicious and delightful breakfast.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Montagu Vines is situated in the historic conservation area of Montagu. The main farmhouse was built between 1900 and 1910 and reflects the early Victorian influenced Karoo style farmhouse of that period. The 6 Garden rooms and 2 courtyard rooms overlook the newly planted Olive Grove and compliment the stately main house. Following the damage to the vines from the floods of November 2008 the vineyard was removed in 2010 and replanted with an olive grove. We offer our guests a taste of old- fashioned comfort and luxury in the town of Montagu on the world famous "Route 62". You can relax in the splash pool set in the tranquil gardens with magnificent old oak and milkwood trees. Alternatively, you could lounge on the lawns enjoying the glorious views of the surrounding mountains whilst sipping a glass of local wine. Montagu Vines Guesthouse is just a stroll away from the centre of Montagu with its amenities that cater for all tastes and interests. There are restaurants, bistros, historic churches and tranquil gardens for the visitor to enjoy. Montagu Vines guesthouse is the perfect place for those intimate weekends, birthdays, and anniversaries or as a stopover whilst discovering "Route 62" and all it has to offer. You may be lucky and see the "resident" owls perched in the old oak tree or meet one of the big tortoises in the olive grove or surrounding areas that visit from the adjacent nature reserve. ... more   less
