This is an old hotel that harkens back to grander times. Some parts are definitely in need of refurbishment, but overall I enjoyed the experience. Some rooms have been done up, and they are very good. Others have not, and they range from decidedly average to quite substandard. Definitely ask if you can get one of the refurbished rooms! I...

We stayed one night in this hotel. Room was small and did not have air condition. Wifi did only work in the reception area. The menu at the hotel was quite short so we went to another place for dinner. A positive thing was that there was a bath tube in the bath room and that was well received by...

What an amazing and imposing building in a prime location. The building has clearly been there for many decades. Coincidentally, many decades ago was the last time the building was decorated and updated. Peeling wallpaper, a damp smell, an ancient bathroom suite, etc. I won't go on. We only stayed here as it was near the caves, thankfully it was...

For the record this is a two star property and as such Ines expectations should be low. However the pictures that you see put up by the hotel do not really reflect the present day but perhaps the intention of the owner when it was originally built in the 1920s/30s! Although it looks imposing, on closer inspection you see the...

Yes, it's a vintage/brocante hotel. It's also a hotel with history and character. And yes, it's a hotel which is old, could need a touch of paint at some spots. Yes, it had wooden floors which makes noices if walked over. Yes, the carpets are worn out a some places. But I loved the atmosphere. I loved the ambiance of...

We enjoyed our stay at this rather tired and old hotel. The room we stayed in was in serious need of renovation and updating. However, it was clean and fine for one nights accommodation. The restaurant looked lovely but too expensive for us. The bed was comfortable.

Old and dilapidated. Convenient to the caves but i would stay someplace else if at all possible. Stuffy. Wifi works only in the lobby. Very old and dreary carpet and wallpaper. No air conditioning or heat.

Waiting I weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Yes the place could do with a tidy up - but it sure oozes character. Great staff! Friendly and helpful. The roast lamb is Devine! Would love to do a murder mystery weekend there. Thanks.

I stayed here with a friend for a couple of nights whilst touring the Waitomo Caves. The Hotel is a grand old historic mansion which has loads of old world character about it. It's floor boards creak, and the carpet is in need of desperate replacement, and the bedroom furniture is a mix-match of styles and era. The bathroom appears...

The hotel sits impressively upon the hill overlooking the small settlement that is Waitomo. Upon getting closer to the hotel you realise that it is long past it's best, with paint peeling off all the grandiose wooden facades. Inside the carpet is threadbare, the wallpaper marked and scuffed and more peeling paint. Our room was on the top floor, up...
