I booked two rooms as my husband and I were showing family from Scotland around New Zealand. It was the final night of our tour so we decided to spend a bit more. The pictures of our room type looked lovely on their website but the rooms were simply nothing like those photos. They were old and chipped, the bathroom...

Initial thought when we first drove up the driveway to this hotel....creepy! It was like walking into a haunted house in a horror movie. We were about half an hour early for check in and the lady behind the desk didn't hesitate to let us know this. She did not seem happy to be there at all. Thankfully, once we...

Up on the hill, surrounded by lovely gardens and native bush - character plus! Great local produce on the menu, friendly staff... everyone says that, I know. But literally every one we met had a smile and a chat.

This hotel could be amazing, but sadly it isn't. Our room was very worn out. Wallpaper peeling from the walls, stained carpet, water rings on the tables, paint peeling from everywhere. Very sad worn out old mattresses. The shower was new and the water pressure nice. We wanted to use the hot tub and they suddenly closed for two days....

Set up in the hill, away from the main road is this old beauty. The rooms are old, but very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and love a chat if you do especially as you have a drink by the bar.

Very close to the caves and Spellbound pick up, plenty of parking, friendly reception staff and excellent evening meal but hotel room needs a bit of tender loving care. Obviously freshly painted but with no pictures on the walls, one small mirror in the tiny bathroom, no fridge it was a little like a cell.

We stayed for one night, and we are all glad that it not a prolonged visit. The photos of the hotel are deceiving. The exterior and interior of the hotel is shocking for what you pay for. A lot of work is required to make the cost worthwhile. The most disappointing aspect was the poor customer service. Both the receptionist...

The staff and rooms were very nice and the hotel itself looked amazing. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel and food there was very good. The hotel is pretty old so don't expect air conditioning or a ceiling fan but they did have a fan in the room and a window we could open to let the cool...

This hotel has a lot of character but don't mistake it for a luxury hotel. It is old and slowly being remodeled. The showers are hot with plenty of water pressure. Huhu restaurant and Waitomo caves are a short hike down the hill. The view from our room was spectacular. I would definitely return. The manager (Joan?) is so helpful...

The 3 of us stayed in this hotel for a night and was comfortable enough. Sure the hotel had seen better days but there is still an old world charm with it. The gardens outside were well kept and pretty. Our room was a bit stuffy and we called the reception. Another fan was brought into the room promptly by...
