This was our second time in Casa Sandra with our children aged 7, 5 and 3. This time around, Holbox was a bit more crowded, as was the hotel, with little effect on service quality. Restaurant staff has seen some turnaround but they are making good progress to achieve excellent standards as we got to know them our first time...

We had a wonderful time. The hotel was lovely. We had a great vacation. The food was wonderful, the rooms lovely, and the beach was perfect. We spent a day lying in a hammock under a shelter, reading a book, watching the sun set. The next day we walked down the beach and watched the Flamigos.

First off: This is not a 5-Star all-inclusive resort with 18 pools and themed dinners as you would find in Can Cun or Playa del Carmen. If that's what you're looking for, go there and avoid Holbox altogether. Holbox is one of those places on earth where time moves more slowly. That said, don't expect ultra-fast times when ordering drinks,...

Am conflicted whether to write a review about Isla Holbox and Casa Sandra. Just returned from three nights there and thought it was a most magical place. Would like to keep the secret for ourselves but that would be unfair!! Holbox is as laid back and underdeveloped as a real hidden gem should be! Sand streets, low rise buildings, golf...

My two children and I spent 4 wonderful days at Casasandra. It really felt like home, service was excellent and the staff made my children (8 and 10) feel welcome, even made special treats for them. Food is excellent and rooms are spacious clean and beautifully decorated. We had the "best vacation ever" according to my kids (and their mom).

Our family stayed here for a week recently and had a wonderful time at the hotel. Rooms: We were fortunately upgraded to a Suite as we stayed a whole week. The room was large, fitted an extra bed for our daughter comfortably and had a private balcony with a hammock and table. The bed was lovely, the bathroom clean and...

Recommendations: Have a piña colada and take a bike to Punta Cocos or Punta Mosquito. Talk to the people that work at the hotel, they have really good restaurant and activity recommendations and stories you will enjoy hearing. Go fishing and let Casa Sandra’s chef cook it for you. Delicious! We wrote an article about this hotel at www.walkingmexico.com

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
For a long time owner, Sandra, wanted to write by the sea. She went in search of a remote world, quiet, where the blue was obvious. One day, she landed in Cancun and the attraction of the Mayan land was overwhelming. She took a small plane and flew over the island of Holbox.Nothing was more attractive to her than the Feast of the colors of nature, barefoot fishermen with their gold teeth, women weaving hammocks or sheathed with their heels in the sand. "I want to do something here, " she said and began to imagine in her head this project now called "the hotel with a human touch" on this very beach. The land of more than 150 species of birds, whale shark, or Damero world's largest fish, mangroves in each corner, all were an inspiration to this artist. Then she wanted to welcome friends from around the world and to express, through a hotel on the island of Holbox, a point of view on life: "peace and art are a great treasure for humans. " Because of this she thought of a place that is romantic, sexy, creative, where the personalized, warm, rustic atmosphere in a luxurious twenty rooms that look to the sea, where one could meet the privacy and whims of its guests. All done out of love and passion. The same place where one can dream and create, and in the best case, where one can rest. The joy of giving and expressing a new way of caring for guests, has been the commitment of the hotel. Every detail has a reason: from the small art gallery with paintings by renowned artists to the beautiful furniture that inhabit the halls.Feelings, emotions, poetry, touches of color, aromas of black coffee, hammocks, fabric on the balconies, fluffy sheets, the sea at every angle, and romantic evenings create the magic of the "place of your dreams." ... more   less
