I'm shocked that my family and I stumbled across The Gro Guest House, (how is this not more known). What a beautiful building, filled with character and charm. We where fortunate to be given room 1, with a double and two single beds. Very large room with additional seating. Huge bathroom with gorgeous roll top bath tub and lashings of... More

Whilst I appreciate that it’s an old building, it’s no excuse for not being clean. The entrance was cluttered and the floor was dirty. The gardens where overgrown and in need of attention. There was a huge shelving unit full of teddy’s at the bottom of the stairs, covered in a thick layer of dust. I booked a twin room... More

Needed a room in Newtown for a Saturday evening and my friends gave me the name of this place as they has heard good things. This place is maybe 300 yards down a track on the right, opposite the suzuki car showroom as you drive from Welshpool, maybe a mile-ish to Newtown proper. Met by the couple that own the... More

Beautiful location. Absolutely fantastic hosts. Made me feel very welcome and part of the family. Quiet place and very peaceful. Would highly recommend as business or leisure accommodation. Good breakfast in the morning and very clean rooms.

I went to Newtown several times and my stays in The Gro were really positive. Mik is a great host and really looks after the house and the guests - he even offers to take you to or from the station which shows what a nice guy he is! Make sure to book in advance because there are many people... More

I was very pleased with my stay at Gro Guest house. Breakfast was lovely, location is nice and only short distance from a shops. Also hotel is dog friendly as this was very important to me as I was travelling with a dog. There is land around hotel to walk dog. Very friendly staff. I would stay there again!

Seeing the messy front yard, cluttered entryway with tools and miscellaneous items strewn about made us think "big mistake". The room once reached down a long narrow hall was large contained all the necessities and very clean. The bathroom had signs of mold in the shower area, the windows could do with a cleaning and to top it off the... More
