My wife and I and two friends spent three days at Yr Hen Fecws. The accommodation was great, a ground floor garden view room with every need catered for including a walk in shower which my wife finds essential. The next door restaurant is in our opinion the best in Porthmadog, the four of us being very impressed with every course, my pork belly was the finest I have ever been served. Great staff, very friendly and helpful.

Stayed for two nights here in a twin room, with a friend as we were going to a wedding in nearby Portmerion. The room was quaint, clean and spacious. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was clean and bright with shower gels provided.

Breakfast was lovely. On the first day we had a full Welsh and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on day two. Tea, cereal, fresh fruit and juice were available. Staff were lovely. The B&B is located just off the high street in Portmadog, just a short walk to the shops and pubs. We managed to get a free parking space around the back. If not avaiable, parking charges are about a fiver for 24 hours. Would definitely return to this B&B.

We stayed for one night whilst en route to meet our new puppy.. The room was basic but adequate however very noisy.. We stayed in room 7 on the ground floor and was woken up by toilets flushing and water running most of the night.. We booked the restaurant next door for our evening meal and it was just beautiful. Very quaint and cosy, delicious food.. We had starters mains and deserts and could fault nothing..my partner said it was the best belly pork he'd ever had and my duck starter was delicious as was the steak for mains. We was served by a lovely lady, the staff had no name badges on so I couldn't name her but she had 3 children and we had a lovely conversation with her, she was so warm, bubbly and welcoming... Breakfast was lovely too, served in the same restaurant adjacent to the B&B but to be fair we had over Indulged so much the night before we didn't really appreciate it fully!... All in all apart from the noisy room it was a lovely stay.. We will be returning to collect our puppy in a few weeks and will no doubt be booking the restaurant again as it was faultless.. I've not rated 5 because of the room but the restaurant was certainly a 5!

Not really sure how I managed to book this, must have misread the price. At £115 per night we expected a lot more than we got. A small room with single beds, albeit comfortable, the smallest television they could find, a very limited selection of tea and coffee in the room and no bottled water. Even the kettle took an age to boil.
The en-suite was not the greatest as the shower cubicle was so small it was difficult to move enough to shower properly and there were no shelves for products.
Breakfast has to be preordered the night before, not a fan but it does save waste, or as I was told, it makes it easier for the staff. It is taken in the adjoining restaurant, at the pre-booked time. The quality of the breakfast was reasonable but did notice that for the three days we stayed the cooking quality varied. I had scrambled eggs as part of my breakfast on all three days. Saturday and Monday they were lovely and buttery but Sunday was rather different, a bland, dry version. The Sunday pot of tea only contained one teabag and had no extra water to top up. Just silly little things but when you are paying those sort of rates, not good. Did like the Welsh pork and leek sausages for breakfast and the buttered smoked haddock is a must. Would not stay here again as the value for money is just not there.

I can describe the whole experience in one word ( Horrible )
Where should I start?
There is no reception, you have to walk in the restaurant and get the attention of one of the staff who is already dealing with the diners, once you get the keys, you have to get out of the restaurant and get to the next door to get to your room.
The room .....164 ft ...never unless you count the bathroom.
Very dirty, if I were to take my shoes off my socks would turn grey from white, and I have pictures.
Loads of spiders, at one point I counted 5, this was horrifying as I am having a phobia of spiders.
Loads of hair on the carpet from different sources, pets and humans.
A minute TV in the corner, a laptop screen is bigger.
Smoke alarm not working.
Bathroom is so small that if you manage to have a shower you don't have space to dry yourself, you would have to get out in the room to do this.
The shower si so small that a lady who wants to have a shower without wetting the hair would have a proper struggle.
The plumbing is so noisy that if someone next or above you would turn the water in the middle of the night it would wake you up.
No ironing board and iron in the room.
Let's not get to the cleanliness of the pillows as I'm going to be sick again.
The room was next to the road and across a public play area, so no joy to have a lay in.
If there were any other B&B available in the area during my visit, I would have never stayed in this place.

So to résumé the whole thing, don't book a room at this place

They staff at the hotel were very helpful and followed the covid safe rules well. The room was very clean and have everything you needed.
We had two meals at the restaurant and they were excellent!
The ambience was perfect and the two waitresses were so lovely. The food was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully.
We planned to walk Snowdon on the first morning and the landlady gave us great recommendation on which path to take and made up a tray of breakfast as we were leaving early. When we returned for a meal in the restaurant a few evenings later, she came over to ask us how we got on with our hike. Such a lovely touch and personal service. We will stay again and recommend this place to our friends. A lovely place to stay with a great restaurant.
We highly recommend to prebook the restaurant as it get booked up quickly.
There are so many lovely walks in the area, Borth-Y-Gest is only a 10mimutes walk along the bay and it is very quaint. A visit to Portmerion is a must.
Rhyd Ddu is highly recommended if you are planning to hike Snowdon.

Yr hen fences, the room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, but a litttle strange in layout- eg, if you moved the dressing table to where the large wardrobe is then this could be used to house the Tea and coffee, thus negating the need to pull the curtains In the morning to make tea, (tea facilities currently stored on a large window sill). This would also give the person on the right side of the bed somewhere to place their cup and their belongings. The room is very warm and the window does not open. Rooms equipped with toiletries, free wifi, and hair dryer. Please ask about ground floor rooms if you struggle with stairs, as these are steep and narrow. Breakfast good but looked like they were counting the bake beans. Overall good visit.

There was a bar next to the B&B, and we were staying there on a Saturday night in a room facing the road just next to the bar - it was noisy and at time with sound of glass bottle breaking. In the morning we were woke up when the glasses were cleaned by cleaners. We also heard the sound from the floor above as well. It was hot that evening and the temperature of our room on the ground floor was fine, but we had to keep the windows opened. On the other hand, our children stayed in a room in the upper floor which was very hot. We gave them the small fan in our room as well but it didn't help a lot. The breakfast was great. When we arrived the parking was full so we had to park somewhere else. Will stay in the Premier Inn nearby next time.

Cosy B & B, rooms have been refurbished to a modern standard, they are quite snug but it did not cause any issues, it was a work trip so it was more than adequate at £75 a night. The bed was comfortable, the room spotlessly cleaned and the soft furnishings of a very good standard. We would stay again if in the area, the location is also spot on.

Stayed in Room 3, which was small with a standard double bed. (The rooms with two single beds are bigger) A great improvement would be bedside lights that would enable one to read. This wasn’t possible with the inadequate lamps provided unfortunately. The wardrobe was difficult as there was no rail inside, only random hooks. The shower was small and would be a problem for bigger guests (who wouldn’t be able to bend down!). Yes, the TV was small, but that suited us. There was a full length mirror too which is essential.
Very handy having such a good restaurant next door. The pre-ordered breakfast was very nice indeed. Croissants would have been a most welcome addition but none on offer. We also ate two dinners at the restaurant, both very good indeed, we would recommend. All of the staff were lovely, very friendly and most helpful at all times.
We would stay again but only in a bigger room that had bedside lights we could read by..
